The Top Five Feminine Nail Color Trends This S/S 2013

Here are a few color trends that have been spotted on the runway and street that I think you ladies can definitely pull off. Make sure to take some pics if you try a few of them out.

Mint and Jade Green:

This color is a throw back to the early 60s when mint and jade were all the rage. These greens are very spring-y and they go with all skin tones. Wear them on your toes or fingers, alone or as art. Whichever way you choose you can’t go wrong.

Good Fellow Yellow:

Yellow is a color of newness and what a great way to welcome the newness of spring with this bright and fun color? You can wear it in neon, butter or mustard. You can also mix and match with other neutrals. However you choose to wear yellow, it’ll definitely be fun.

Candy Apple Red

Red is a classic color. No girl or woman can go wrong with red. Wear it in the classic way, with sparkles or as reversed tips. Have fun it with. Just wearing the colors speaks volume about your confidence…It’s everything!

c600x600

Coral Your Enthusiam

Coral is a year rounder color. It doesn’t matter the season. This classic throw back from the 60s is a more refined orange and is perfect color for all skin tones and shades. Get your girlie-on or go rock n roll by adding black racer stripes to your nails.

Lavendish

Oh lavender. So pretty and feminine. In fact I think she is a bit of a priss with a wild side. Lavender is just a fantastic color no matter how you slice it. It’s a great color to wear with a summer dress or white. Add some silver nail art and you can take this color out of neutral.

Spring 2013 Nail Trends

Spring is finally here! I was kind of surprised when I found out that the trend wasn’t exactly pastels this year. Don’t get me wrong you can still break out the pastel colors because they are oh so pretty! Let’s hop into it ;) Oh and at the end of this blog I have a little tip that will help out your nail polishes :)

Pale Nails -  This spring pale nails are in ! That means you can feel comfortable with the natural colors. Light pinks, Nudes, Peaches you’re going to see a lot this season!

Dark Polishes -  This particular trend I was completely shocked at ! Dark nails for a colorful season?! But I’m actually really happy about it because sometimes I want to wear a darker color to match something i’m wearing and I’m not always wearing pastels! So I’m diggin` this. The dark polishes that are in this season are grays, purples and navy blue.

Metallics – This is one of my favorites! Oh man when this trend started coming out before spring even hit, I thought it was awesome! I don’t know why but i just think it brings sexy to the table. This spring you can definitely rock the gold, silver and copper metallic!

goldmetallic

Two-Toned Manicure-  This trend I haven’t tried out yet but look forward to doing. I think it’s cool and classy but adds a little extra to the mix. You can do a two-toned manicure with any two colors you want!

twotone

Pastels -   Ah yes and here is the trend that seems to stick around forever! I love it though, it makes you feel so good that winter is finally over with. No more hiding under layers of clothes or freezing your butt off! (Well at least where i’m from it’s cold in the winter.) This year though the one pastel that is really in, is MINT GREEN. Yes! My Favorite!

mintgreen

Canary Yellow & Reddish-Orange -   I had to make a separate category for these two lovelies! They don’t really fit in the pastels because they’re too bright! LOL These colors are awesome though and the new thing for spring. Reddish-Orange and Canary Yellow Nail Polish. I cannot wait to start rocking these colors :) Maybe i’ll even try the two-toned manicure with them!

Spring 2013 Nail Trends

This week we’re talking about the hot nail colors for spring/summer.  I’m a big Essie fan and their new summer colors are TDF!  Right now I’m gushing over anything lavender or mossy green.  Pastels with an edge.  So far, I’ve tried these spring colors by Essie and loved them, they’ll be staples for the next few months until the brights start poppin’:

Perfect moss: “Maximillian Strasse-Her“

Perfect lilac: “Bond with Whomever” or “Under Where“

On a related note, two nail trends that were seen on the runways last season are gonna be H.O.T. for the warmer months.  Just want to alert you so you’re in the know…thoughts?

For a silver metallic, I’d try Essie’s “Beyond Cozy” and for the dark base, try the shade used on the runway at Jason Wu last season, OPI’s “Suzy Skis in the Pyrenees” (links on names).

There is something about the Spring that has me wanting to paint my nails and try out some new manicure styles. This Spring, the nail trends are fun and creative. Gone are the days of simple red polish swiped on with precision. Now it’s all about the design elements. Nail polish has become an art.

Anne Hathaway’s Wedding Dress: A Custom Valentino Gown

That Anne Hathaway’s wedding dress will soon be the custom creation of Valentino Garavani should hardly be news. The star has graced many a high-profile event poured into gowns from the old-guard Italian couturier, most notably in a red bustled column to host the 2011 Academy Awards. She looked positively bridal wearing a shimmering white, cap-sleeve Valeninto gown (above) at the The White Fairy Tale Love Ball in July. And just this Thursday Hathaway attended the New York City Ballet Fall Gala in a long-sleeve, sheer Valentino Couture gown printed with a dark green pastoral motif—and offset by an edgy haircut, cropped close for her turn as Fantine in Tom Hooper’s “Les Misérables.”

Also in attendance at the gala last night, Valentino told reporters that he “did the dress” for Hathaway’s upcoming nuptials to Adam Shulman, despite retiring from designing his fashion house in 2008. “She’s a very good friend of mine,” he said. “She’s like my daughter!” Following Hathaway’s engagement in November 2011, Valentino hinted at the prospect of creating a wedding dress for the actress, telling People “I am so happy for Anne. And I would do my best creation for her. She’s a lovely person. She wears the clothes very, very well. So I would do something special.”

What to wear: Top 10 Spring Clutches

Yes, we know that the weather is less than spring like, but there are a couple of very important things to bear in mind. Firstly, it’s good that there is so much rain because it justifies all the money you spent on coats and fleece-lined leggings a couple of months ago. Secondly, all those drought warnings suddenly don’t seem so scary. Thirdly, the weather can’t stay like this forever. So why not dream of drowsy sunlit days and choose your perfect clutch for Spring, whenever it decides to return?

1. Alexander McQueen, De-Manta Leopard Clutch; £315, Motilo.com

This sexy badboy is one of those clutches which is sure to get you noticed. The characteristic McQueen shape will be spotted a mile off, and the oversized leopard print makes it glamorous for the evening as well as practical for the day.

2. Stella McCartney, Pembridge woven wicker-effect satchel; £735, Motilo.com

You can take this tangerine dream pretty much anywhere, thanks to a handy little shoulder strap. With McCartney working her usual sports luxe look, the bright orange wicker stylings can fit into a minimal white outfit or a busy warm floral.

3. Serpui Marie, Marrakesh Minaudiere; £119, Motilo.com

Even if you’re not lucky enough to be witnessing a tropical sunset in real life, thanks to this stunning dyed straw clutch, you can take one around with you. The vibrant colours and bold tassel make it a great statement to go with your LBD.

4. Carven, Tribal jacquard clutch; £340, Motilo.com

Carven, Carven, Carven. Do they ever get it wrong? The warm berry and lemon shades in the tribal print can make this bag the focal point of a casual outfit. Are you popping out for a quick lunch in jeans and a blouse? Forget the handbag, just pop your phone, cards and keys in this clutch and away you go.

5. Angel Jackson, Foldover clutch; £259, Motilo.com

There’s something about the delicious, vibrant texture of this foldover clutch that makes us think of cocktails and key lime pie. It’s roomy enough to keep all your essentials, and yet begs to be taken out on the town. The bold colour and lack of hardware make it perfect for colour-blocking, so wear it with a clashing outfit.

6. Anya Hindmarch, Ipanema straw and raffia oversized clutch; £495, Motilo.com

If you’re going to a garden party there’s only one clutch choice this season. The straw and raffia details on this Anya Hindmarch are amazingly Americana. With wedges, a floaty maxi, and tousled locks you can totally channel some ’70s chic.

7. Muzungu Sisters, Vera clutch; £180, Motilo.com

Now we move onto the chilled out beach party. As well as looking super cool, this silk straw Muzungu Sisters bag is amazingly sturdy, and no amount of sand or sea can make it look shabby. The interior cotton lining also protects your contents from spilled drinks and all the other fun/irresponsible behaviour that ensues at a soiree.

8. Charlotte Olympia, Pandora feather perspex box clutch; £525, Motilo.com

This Charlotte Olympia is a little more red carpet. Firstly, the nature of perspex means that even if you drop it down 60 flights of stairs, your iPhone will remain intact. Perfect for those who are planning on drinking more than one glass of champagne at an event. Also, the delicate peachy feathers are a subtle way to bring another dimension to a statement dress, or to enhance something more minimal.

9. Versus, Vinyl and Leather clutch; £370, Motilo.com

Hello retro! This is for all the chic hipsters out there with a bit of cash to spend. The fastening has some stylish hiking connotations with the click-in buckle and chunky toggle zip but the bubblegum pink vinyl ensures that this is strictly a fashion accessory.

10. Calvin Klein, Python document holder; £755, Motilo.com

Finally but not frumpily, the ultra sleek Calvin Klein. This oversized clutch is actually a document holder. Are you the girl who runs into a meeting with papers flying or an old folder that has been relabelled so many times that the original colour can no longer be seen? Maybe it’s time to invest in something more respectable. This A4 sized python clutch will garner a new kind of respect. In the parlance of our times: like a boss.

What to wear: Top 10 Spring Shoes

The birds are singing, the trees are blossoming, the grass is growing under our feet and occasionally we feel a glimmer of sun on our faces. We’ve been getting excited about the approach of the warmer months for some time, and now that they’re here, it’s high time you cast aside your biker boots and classic black courts and found some joy in colour and kooky design. Here are our top 10 shoes for Spring:

1. The festive floral.

Add a bit of floral fun into your wardrobe in an unconventional way. The delicate heel and strap of this sling-back keep the bold blue leather and fabric flower detail classy and wearable.

Vionnet, Printed High-heeled Sandals; £460, motilo.com

2. The easy option ankle boot.

Just because the sun is peeping out from behind the clouds, it doesn’t mean that sandals are always practical. For the slightly more chilly days, choose an ankle boot with a brighter, lighter colour. The studded detail on this pair will also keep things fresh and relevant.

Chloe, Studded Ankle Boot; £819, motilo.com

3. The sexy semi-see-through statement.

Playing with transparency can be dangerous with your clothes, but luckily you can get away with it in footwear. Some berry coloured pumps are a delicious addition to your wardrobe, and the sheer panels are a smouldering feature.

Rupert Sanderson, Hamelin High Heel Pump; £425, motilo.com

4. The wow-factor wedge.

Wedges are a great and practical staple for marrying both poise and comfort. If you’re looking for something more interesting than the usual raffia and canvas combo, then look no further than this super girly mermaid print.

Charlotte Olympia, Miranda Mermaid-print Wedges; £575, motilo.com

5. The toe-cap investment piece.

If you’re not one to splurge on shoes that will last you for only a matter of months, then the sturdy nature of this pair will appeal to you. Not only will they last forever on account of their impressive toe-cap hardware, that very feature will carry them through into Autumn/Winter 2013, when it will be an unmissable trend.

Yves Saint Laurent, Ingenue Suede and Metal Slingbacks; £735, motilo.com

6. The inspirational indulgence.

Although these sandals look daunting, the delicate plaited nude leather and silver chains could be incredible, if wound around the right ankle. The relatively low heel and high backed strapping will keep you on your feet despite the minimal foot decoration. They’re a party piece that will have everybody talking.

Isabel Marant, Rea Leather Sandals; £500, motilo.com

7. The day-to-night gladiator.

A few years ago the gladiator sandal swept into fashion and there it has stayed. They often have a tendency to be overly informal, but in a metallic shade they can be much more versatile. This deep bronze pair would look great under a maxi during the day, and still work at office drinks in the evening.

Ancient Greek Sandals, Gladiator Sandals; £172, motilo.com

8. The fun loafer.

There are so many styles, colours and textures you can find in a loafer. This is the perfect shoe for spring, being chic, comfortable, and also appropriate for a myriad of occasions and events. If you’re going to opt for something snazzy, choose a classic that will last you through the seasons, like this pony skin leopard print.

C.B. Made in Italy, Leopard Print Moccasins; £280, motilo.com

9. The coloured pump.

If you’re going to add a splash of colour-pop into your outfit, be bold. Christian Louboutin is a failsafe option for a rainbow of designs in high quality leather. A bright turquoise will bring out your pastels and a patent sheen will have them glowing in the dark.

Christian Louboutin, Pigalle 100 Patent-leather Pumps; £375, motilo.com

10. The hybrid all rounder.

Part sling-back, part pump, part sandal. This warm toned suede shoe is a wonderful mix of everything you’d want for Spring. They’re brightly coloured, versatile, flat and comfortable, but also smart. Your toes will feel blessed with the open air, but they’re also durable enough to withstand slightly wilder weather.

Jil Sander, Red Scalloped Sandal; £405, motilo.com

Styling Workshop: 15 Spring Wardrobe Essentials, Over 35 Outfits to Wear!

The key to an amazing wardrobe is owning basics you can constantly recycle, and restyle, over and over again. To help you achieve Spring fashion success, we created over 35 outfits out of 15 must-have pieces. Think white skinny jeans, that perfect warm-weather LBD, day-to-night sandals, and a classic nautical-stripe t-shirt for starters. Trust us, you’ll be amazed by the sheer versatility of these pieces; we were. Whether you’re looking to style up your bright denim shorts with something silky on top or you’re not sure how to make the most of your slick white boyfriend blazer, take a look inside for over 35 ways — we also included a few accessory suggestions to complete the look — to maximize what’s in your closet. Just click inside to see how to narrow down your Spring-to-Summer shopping list to its must-have core and get to the fun part: styling. Then, let us know which outfit you like best in the comments!

The Key Pieces

For day-to-night dressing, you need a slick LWD that can handle a glamorous upgrade but won’t look out of place with just a pair of sandals. For everyday wear, stick with classic separates like a cozy oversize cardigan and a nautical-inspired striped shirt.

The Key Pieces

Every girl should have a white t-shirt (slouchier fits are perfect for Spring), a pop of color (these denim cutoff shorts will do the trick), and a slightly flared blue jean in her wardrobe. These three pieces are easy to mix and match, plus they’ll never go out of style.

The Key Pieces

Inject a sense of femininity and sexiness into your Spring closet via flirtier pieces. A wear-with-anything LBD, pretty nude sheer button-up, and bold floral-print skirt will translate into gorgeous warm-weather outfits.

The Key Pieces

Spring calls for lighter wares, and we’re all for embracing this monochromatic palette. A white ankle-cut skinny jean silhouette can be dressed up with dark sandals or worn casually with flats, while an ultratailored white blazer is a refined basic that adds polish and sophistication to any outfit.

The Key Pieces

While we’re more than just a little obsessed with shoes, we know that when it comes down to it, you really only need four different heel heights. A casual flat, a versatile heel — in this case, a sandal for Spring — a more formal platform sandal, and a sneaker. We opted for subtle albeit superplayful details, as seen in the scalloped edges or glitter-embellished silhouette.

The Key Pieces

To make sure you can transform your outfits seamlessly from day to night, you’ll need two slick pairs of Spring-perfect sandals. A platform style and lower-heeled, woven-braid version will provide versatile styling options.

Outfit #1

Brighten up your casual shorts-tee combo with eye-catching accessories, like embellished sneakers, and finish off with a vibrant multichain necklace.

Outfit #2

Go for ladylike in this full-skirted ensemble. By keeping the top simple, you can add on ultrafeminine accents via a picnic-perfect wicker bag and pretty gold bangles.

Outfit #3

Want to put a nighttime spin on your white dress? Just don a pair of woven heels and add on a cool-girl purse, preferably in a bold hue, and sparkly stud earrings.

Outfit #4

An LBD always looks chic. We suggest adding a sophisticated striped envelope clutch to give this dress just the right amount of Summer party flair.

Outfit #5

Play up the flirty, diaphanous vibe of this blouse by pairing it with white jeans — just add neutral-toned pieces to complement it.

Outfit #6

We paired laid-back separates with these flattering flared jeans and chunky sandals to keep the mood low-key. Top off the ensemble with one of your printed scarves for an extra splash of color and texture.

Outfit #7

Tuck in this blouse with shorts and ballet flats for a Parisian feel — extra style points if you accessorize with a turban-style headband.

Outfit #8

Give your little black dress a bit of sparkle and volume by adding colorful earrings and platform sandals.

Outfit #9

Transform your white jeans into a night-on-the-town ensemble with the help of a polished white blazer, a silky blouse, and chunky platform sandals. Then, dig around your jewelry box for a pop of metallic gold to complete the look.

Outfit #10

Pair an LWD with a long cardigan and chunky-soled sandals for a day at the office.

Outfit #11

If you want to mix two prints, make it playful. We chose to go the girlier route and tied it all together with one solid-hued accessory, like a blush-toned skinny belt.

Outfit #12

Take the nautical trend up a notch by adding a slick white boyfriend blazer to your striped-tee attire.

Outfit #13

This jeans and tee look only needed a cool pair of classic sandals and a tassel necklace.

Outfit #14

For an easy at-work look, wear an LWD with a sleek necklace and flats.

Outfit #15

We’re all for classic Spring-to-Summer outfits à la white jeans and a striped t-shirt, but this time around, add bold kicks for a louder daytime statement.

Outfit #16

Play up your girlier side by pairing a full floral-print skirt with a soft blouse — if you have a statement belt in your arsenal of accessories, feel free to belt it for added dynamic.

Outfit #17

You can still look refined on casual work Fridays — add a silk blouse and a sophisticated cardigan to your jeans. Then, finish it off with an awesome pair of heels.

Outfit #18

You can totally style this LWD with a pair of sneakers and a fun tote — can anyone say “weekend getaway”?

Outfit #19

Pair an all-white getup with this bright green cardigan and platform sandals for a cool-girl daytime appeal. A quirky accessory or statement necklace — like this embellished Peter Pan collar — will swiftly take your outfit from casual to drinks-date territory.

Outfit #20

While a striped t-shirt mixed with a colorful short bottom is a fun Summer mix, if you add an embellished sneaker — like these glitter-infused kicks — you’ll have an eye-catching mix of texture, color, and youthful spirit. Have a neon bracelet on hand? Wear it too; you can never have enough bright pops in a laid-back outfit like this one.

Outfit #21

Create a work-appropriate ensemble by pairing a loose-fitted blouse with a colorful cardigan and white jeans. Then, to make sure your personality shines through, add a fun pair of oversize hoop earrings into the mix.

Outfit #22

You can always tone down an LWD with a green cardigan and no-frills sandals for work.

Outfit #23

To style your ladylike floral skirt a little edgier, keep the top simple and the accessories quirky.

Outfit #24

For a sleek cocktail ensemble, mix up your monochromatic sensibilities. Go for bold with an LBD styled with a white blazer, then accessorize with simple-cum-chic pieces.

Outfit #25

Channel your preppier side with easy basics — a blue-and-white striped t-shirt, a green cardigan, and white jeans will prove country-club cool. Then, to kick it up to weekend drinks worthy, add a slick pair of heels.

Outfit #26

Hitting happy hour after work? Add a cool white blazer and slick sandals to your more casual separates underneath.

Outfit #27

Want to keep your weekend wardrobe easy? Try pairing a white t-shirt with white jeans and flats. It’s a classic ensemble that really can never go wrong.

Outfit #28

To keep it on the polished side, wear your jeans with a sheer cool-girl blouse and black woven sandals.

Outfit #29

To put an after-work spin on this breezy LWD, trade your flats in for heels and polish it off with a matching white blazer.

Outfit #30

Mix and match your prints and tailored pieces. For a more sophisticated take on Summer dressing, add a structured blazer to your shorts getup, and instead of wearing a plain tee, opt for something printed.

Outfit #31

Style your weekend outfit with a bit of funk. Instead of wearing a cozy t-shirt, don a cool blouse, then emphasize the silver studs of the Miu Miu sneakers with an equally studded ring on top.

Outfit #32

If your work environment is low-key and every day is casual Friday, we think this classic black flat and cardigan will keep you comfy without sacrificing your polished day-to-night LBD. For added flair, pin a brooch to your cardigan.

Outfit #33

Not sure what to wear on a casual night out? Take a bright pair of shorts and style them with a supersophisticated top. We love this silky blouse tucked in to give it an effortlessly refined feel. Finish it off by wearing nude-toned heels and a great pair of earrings.

Outfit #34

Whether you wear this outfit in a professional setting or after hours, we think you can have fun with a more tailored all-white look. And the best part? All it takes is a colorful beaded clutch and braided sandals to give it a lighthearted vibe.

Outfit #35

Your Sunday style doesn’t need to fall flat. We would style a striped t-shirt with a bright green cardigan on top for double the color factor. But to make sure you stick with the off-duty vibe, keep the rest simple. A pair of white jeans and a classic black flat will tie it all together.

The Stars Are Aligned For Alessandra Ambrosio, Miley Cyrus, and Jessica Simpson

Alessandra Ambrosio and Miley Cyrus were seeing stars this week, making for a pair of cute Summer street-style looks. Both sported Wildfox Couture’s Seeing Stars Lennon Sweater ($198) and gave us two distinct ways to wear it. Alessandra styled hers with denim shorts, a Panama hat, and thin-strap sandals for a Fourth of July trip to Malibu, while Miley donned hers as a minidress (in true Miley fashion) with Converse kicks the next day — proving that you don’t have to be celebrating a national holiday to look pretty and patriotic. Jessica Simpson also tweeted a photo of herself in the popular piece while watching fireworks with her family, and though we can’t see how she styled it up, we’re loving how it pops against little Maxwell’s white onesie.

The Perfect Celeb-Inspired Hats for Summer

Summer is almost here! The sun is shining, the weather is heatin’ up, and we’re getting ready to unleash our beach bods. (Well, after a few more reps of crunches, that is.) On those days when sunscreen and a pair of neon sunnies just isn’t enough, it’s time to throw on a hat perfect for any summer day.

Celebs have been going crazy over hats of all kinds this year, but here are some of our faves and the places you can find similar ones!

If anyone could live at the beach, it’s Stacy Keibler (who still has George Clooney wrapped around her finger). And look at her — we don’t blame him! Her fedora with black detailing is perf for a day at the beach, and you can get the same look for $9.80 with this straw fedora from Forever 21.

Is Ashley Tisdale ever not wearing a hat? We didn’t think so. But she looks fab in this classic hat with pink detailing, and you can too with a look-alike straw hat from H&M for $9.95.

Khloe Kardashian definitely knows how to make a statement with her bright, pink hat. (And side note, we want her bag, too!) With this floppy hat from Forever 21 for $12.80, you can be bold with a dash (haha) of color that’s great for the beach… but not too much color that you’re going to blind everyone on it.
Vanessa Hudgens knows exactly how to rock the boho-chic look in the rusty orange-colored hat she wore at Coachella, but we’re thinking something a little more summery like this wide-brimmed purple straw hatfrom H&M would be a summer look everyone will love.

What hats are you loving this summer? Which celeb rocks the trend best?

How To Choose Summer Hat For Your Face Shape

Hat is an accessory that plays both aesthetic and practical roles. All women can look good in a hat if it is chosen correctly. The tips we offer here are to help you understand and choose the style of a hat that will fit your face shape and make you look stunning.

With the recent climatic changes the weather in many regions has become really unpredictable and often much hotter in summer than before. So, it’s quite essential to protect oneself from extreme heat and sunrays. A hat can be a perfect accessory to avoid sunstrokes but lots of women prefer not to wear it because they believe none of hat styles can look good on them. That’s totally false, and to prove my words I’m ready to give you a number of tips on how to choose a summer hat for different face shapes.

Summer Hats for Oval Face
If you are a woman with an oval-shaped face you can feel really lucky as you will look great in almost all hat shapes and styles. Try newsboy hats and fedoras as these are must-haves of this summer. Experiment with wearing your hat in a number of ways. Don it forward, backward or tilted to the side – all versions will be flattering. The only hat you should avoid is the one with crowns narrower than the cheekbones.

Summer Hats for Heart Face
Heart-shaped faces are also pretty versatile when it comes to choosing and wearing hats. Try berets, cloches and hats with medium-length brims to balance out your facial features.

Summer Hats for Round Face
To flatter your face shape opt for hats with wide brims such as fedoras, cowboy and sun hats. The best way to wear such hats is with a slight slant. Hats with low crowns and small brims are to avoid.

Summer Hats for Oblong Face
Oblong-faced girls should stay away from square hats as those tend to elongate the face. Instead try hats with a medium or low crown. Wide brims could be a great option as well, because they balance the vertical length of a long face. Hats with bows, flowers or other ornamentations will make you look stunning.

Summer Hats for Square Face
The best style of a hat for square faces is the one with wide brims. Another possible choice is a hat with lots of curves. Square-shaped hats are to avoid.

Celebrities Wearing Hats Spring 2012

You Really, Really Need a Cool Hat This Spring . . . Here’s Why

A cool hat is a necessity this Spring, judging by the plethora of celebs donning them and the breathtaking variety you’ll find in stores. There’s also the functional bonus of skin protection, as a good hat will be your best friend in keeping those UV rays at bay. Whether you’re seeking shade with a wide-brimmed topper à la Beyoncé or polishing off your city-slick style with a fedora like Elizabeth Olsen, the effect is easy to pull off and incredibly chic. 10 trendsetting stars who make a great case for wearing hats this season.

Rachel Zoe honed in on her Spring style with a lightweight fedora.

Blake Lively added interest to a day outfit with a woven two-tone hat.

Emma Stone channeled vintage glamour on a much more accessible scale via a cool floppy brown fedora.

Jessica Alba‘s black fedora added an edgy dimension to her neon denim without going over the top.

Elizabeth Olsen’s vibe was perfectly city-cool, thanks to a slick fedora.

Katie Holmes gave her staples a trendier update with a flat-brimmed topper.

Miranda Kerr had that perfect street-chic balance with low-key separates and a statement-worthy fedora

Charlize Theron‘s off-duty style had just the right amount of on-trend appeal, balancing a relaxed tee with more attention-grabbing pieces like cutout booties and her cool-girl hat.

Jessica Szohr‘s topper had double the statement power thanks to an exotic texture and leopard print. It’s the perfect kind to take to an event, as long as you take a cue from Jessica and keep the rest of your look understated.

Beyoncé’s black topper furthered the vintage-inspired fun of her round sunglasses and vibrant-print skirt.

How to choose a flattering hat

Hats are nice and are often necessary to wear. But I’m sure few women really know how to choose a perfect hat to match their outfit. Though this is very important because a hat as well as any other accessory can make you look great or terrible.

There are a few things you need to do when you want to select the right hat.

Take your time

Actually few women like wearing hats in everyday life. As a result, when they really need to don one, they are up a stump. Don’t feel afraid. Choosing the style, color and shape that’s right for you and your outfit, isn’t difficult if you know how, but it takes time.

Think of a large department store that offers a good selection of hats. When you are there try on every single style. Look at yourself from every angle to make sure you look good from each side.

Opt for the right color

Hat color is significant as it can make you look sensational and knock several years off your age or do quite an opposite thing.

Don’t try to match the hat to your entire outfit. As long as the color complements one of the shades in the attire or your accessories, it will look beautifully.

What really matters is choosing a tone that suits your complexion. For example, an apple green hat will give pale skin a green tinge. Fuchsia tone will make you red in the face. Pastel colors including cream, lilac and dove grey look fantastic on younger women but are not flattering at all for ladies over 30.

Take into account your face shape

A flattering hat should complement the shape of your face. If your face is round, choose something with a broad brim or small, pull-on hat. A brim wider than the face will balance it. For a long face, opt for some kind of softness or movement such as feathers, or an adorned headband. Square-faced women need an asymmetric hat which will balance their jawline. In case you have a heart shaped face, feel free to choose among all styles.

Match the style of your outfit

Matching the style of your outfit is of utmost importance. If you want to wear a floaty summer dress, the best option will be a soft hat with drapery or ribbons. For a tailored dress or suit, choose a hat with structure and sharp, sleek lines such as a boater or trilby. You can even go shopping in your outfit or in something with a similar neckline to find a hat that looks perfectly.

Find a hat appropriate for the occasion

If you are invited to a wedding choose a nice fascinator or a little pill box with a veil. Such a hat will look just right to the occasion. But in case you want and should look extraordinary and unlike others, opt for a hat that is a real statement.

Wear your hat before the occasion

Treat your hat like a new pair of shoes. Wear it at home for some time just to ensure it fits well and you feel comfortable in it. Check for possible problems. If you think it can be blown off, sew a comb in the back which can attach to your hair or use hair grips.

Choose how you will position your hat

Though there’s no right or wrong way to wear a hat people consider it as more appropriate to push their hat right to the back of the head. This isn’t always the most flattering look. That is why you need to experiment before the big day. Place your hat on in front of the mirror then move it around until you get the most attractive look.

I hope with these tips you are armed to make a great choice and find the hat which looks terrific on you!
