2012 Watch List: Celebs, Trends, and Designers You’ll Want to Know This Year

A fresh crop of design talent, shopping musts, and rising stars is on the horizon for 2012 — and we’re breaking it all down right here. We’re less than a month into the new year and there’s already a lot to take in, like Rooney Mara’s rise to Hollywood stardom (and bona fide fashion plate) and Jason Wu‘s collection for Target on the way. That’s only the beginning — this year is ripe with fresh fashion popping up on our DVR, new designer collections we’re coveting, and the highly anticipated release of The Hunger Games with Jennifer Lawrence solidifying her own leading-lady status. Step inside to get all the details on the celebs we’re watching, trends we’re wearing, and fashion we’re loving in 2012.

Hollywood It Girl: Jennifer Lawrence

She rocketed to fame with her Oscar-nominated performance in Winter’s Bone, stunned on the red carpet in curve-flaunting Calvin Klein, and beat out young-Hollywood favorites for the lead role in the Hunger Games movies — oh, and she’s only 22.

Bag to Have: The Handheld Clutch

No Spring ’12 runway look was complete without a pretty clutch in tow. Handheld styles ran the gamut from ladylike to neon and tribal-inspired, so while exactly which version you tote is up to you, one thing’s for certain — ditch your carryall for something a little more streamlined.

Must Watch: Fashion Star

We’ll always have a soft spot for Project Runway, but this year we’re tuning in to see Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson mentor a cast of rising talent turning out designs we can actually purchase the very next day. Fashion Star premieres March 13 — you’ll want to set your DVR for this one.

Trend to Try: Botanicals

2011 may have been the year of leopard print, but if the florals forecast at the Spring ’12 shows is any indication, 2012 is going to be all about bold, full-bodied botanicals on everything from silky dresses to suit separates.

Must-Have Collab: Marni For H&M

2011 was buzzing with the Versace for H&M collab, but this year the mass retailer may just outdo itself by bringing Marni‘s jacquard knits and bold graphic prints in stores. Keep your eyes out for this must-have collection.

Designer to Watch: Mary Katrantzou

The Greek-born designer has an optimistic, whimsical sense that translates into beautifully crafted kaleidoscope prints on the runway. Now, with a celebrity fan base that includes Alexa Chung, Keira Knightley, and Hailee Steinfeld and a capsule collection for Topshop out this Spring, 2012 may just be her biggest year yet.

Must-Have Add-On: The Earring

Last year may have been all about the arm party or the statement necklace, but this season we’re giving our ears a little love via pretty, bold, and embellished earrings. Whether you opt for a glitzy studded pair, dangling drop earrings, or megawatt hoops, each style had a place on the Spring ’12 runways — and now eking out a spot in your own jewelry box.

Must-Have Collab: Jason Wu For Target

Have you seen this collection? With a selection of the designer’s pretty frocks and sophisticated sportswear for under $60, we’re predicting a Missoni-for-Target-like craze to ensue. Mark your calendars — the collection drops Feb. 5.

Rising Star: Rooney Mara

From seriously killer red-carpet style (she may have single-handedly launched the cutout trend) to her breakout role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, we suspect 2011 was just the beginning for Rooney.

Mr. Blasberg’s Best-Dressed List

Diane Kruger in Hugo Boss

Well, she can officially do it all. In the film Farewell My Queen, Diane Kruger plays the ultimate clotheshorse: Marie Antoinette. (And she plays her well.) But at one of the parties to celebrate the debut of the film, Diane dressed decidedly more casual. Although, who can blame her after running around Versailles in corsets and pirate-shaped wigs? Just because she was dressed down didn’t mean she was out for this week’s list. Her look was casual but drop dead sexy. I love the effortless baggy trousers and tank top dressed up with a killer pair of heels.

Marion Cotillard in Dior Couture

The debut goes to Marion Cotillard! I was wondering which actress would be the first one to wear Raf Simons’ first Dior Couture collection on the red carpet. And it was very appropriately the Oscar-winning French actress and ambassador for the house at The Dark Knight Rises premiere in London. Doesn’t she look divine? I love the proportions — a tiny top and a long, leg-lengthening skirt — and bonus points for the pops of color with the crimson handbag and pumps. While the debate is still raging over the future of Dior, I’m looking forward to seeing more of this collection on the red carpet!

Anne Hathaway in Stella McCartney

Speaking of fashion multi-taskers, we’ve got another one here. Anne Hathaway’s out and about promoting her role as Catwoman in the new Batman flick, which has her in a skin tight leather bodysuit and her hair in long, flowing locks. (And, I have to say, I was a little surprised she’s been able to do sexy so well.) But in real life, her look is gamine and adorable. I like this pixie cut and I loved this mixed print Stella McCartney frock she wore on Jimmy Fallon.

Lauren Santo Domingo in Nina Ricci

Somehow (and even though I’m a friend I still don’t know how), Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo manages to make high fashion samples into maternity clothes. Look at this Nina Ricci cocktail dress she wore at a charity benefit in New York. You can hardly notice she’s six months pregnant. It looks like she just had a big lunch. I love the play of patterns on the dress, and the tulle ruffle is the perfect pregnancy foil.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marc Jacobs

I have to give it to Hailee Steinfeld: She’s hitting all the right notes on the red carpet. I was a little worried last year when she wore Converse sneakers with a Marchesa dress to the Vanity Fair Oscars party. It was cute at the time, but it’s good to see she knew not to be too cute all the time. Her style has grown up, and so has her fashion cred: She’s already done two Miu Miu campaigns. I loved this bright floral Marc Jacobs dress she wore to the Batman premiere in New York, and how she paired it with a funky wedge. Fun and chic!

Jessica Biel in Mugler

Good one, Jessica Biel. The American actress whose fashion choices, in my humble opinion, tend to fall in the expected category, mixed it up at Comic Con this year. The plastic Mugler pencil skirt looks fabulous on her. Maybe she should consider tapping into her inner French sex goddess more often! After all, her future husband did bring sexy back.

Miranda Kerr in Céline

I’m not sure if Phoebe Philo would consider this a compliment, but my grandmother had pants in almost the identical pattern to the Céline pants that Miranda Kerr wore while running errands in New York City. Not that that’s the only reason I loved them, of course. Philo’s designs are some of my girlfriends’ most prized possessions, and when you see the easy, breezy elegance on a girl like Miranda, it’s clear why.

Kyra Sedgwick at The David Letterman Show

OK, now I understand how she’s kept Kevin Bacon around for so long. Kyra Sedgwick is smoking. The body-hugging red dress she wore to tape an appearance on The David Letterman Show was absolutely fabulous. I loved the fit, and the below-the-knee hem was the perfect counterpart to the cleavage-bearing neckline.

Thandie Newton in Stella McCartney

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got a divorce. Yeah, it’s been reported on a few blogs. Anyway, all that attention got me thinking about his movies, and then I found this picture of Thandie Newton looking seriously chic in Stella McCartney, and now I’m in the mood for a Mission Impossible marathon. Anyway, back to the dress: It’s simple and elegant, but the cut is what makes it so fabulous. The slight flair at the waste accentuates Thandie’s curves to perfection.

Alexa Chung in Louis Vuitton

Not since Patti Hearst has a beret looked so chic. And not since the Rocky movies have I had such sweatshirt envy. (Though, for much different reasons.) I loved the Louis Vuitton ensemble that Alexa Chung put together for Vuitton’s Shanghai store opening. But then again, I’d love any look with that Sprouse leopard print in it.

Back-to-School Celebrity Style Inspiration

Get cool ideas for your own fall outfits by rocking this year’s biggest trends just like your favorite celebs!

Metallic Sparkle

While Glee’s Rachel may not win any best-dressed awards at William McKinley high school, Lea Michele proves that she definitely knows a thing or two about style off set. You’ll never go wrong with an eye-catching metallic jacket like this one; rock it for any occasion where you want to impress, from a big class presentation to an after-school study date.

Bright Tribal

From cropped tees to flirty dresses, bright tribal prints are everywhere this season—and Ashley Tisdale’s take on fall’s hottest trend shows just how versatile it can be! Channel her style for Homecoming by rocking a similar shimmery mini with nude heels and glowing skin.

Wedge Sneakers

Willow Smith’s pumped-up kicks are the ideal combo of sporty and chic. With sneakers like these, dressing casual has never looked so glam!

Mixing Prints

Emma Watson has the magic touch when it comes to navigating the tricky territory of mixing patterns. For back-to-school style, it’s all about keeping things versatile—and that’s why we’re head-over-heels with Emma’s vintage-inspired look. Take a cue from this style star and try pairing floral prints with geometric patterns to add some fun to your fall wardrobe!

Peplum

Victoria Justice’s peplum top is a little bit sweet and a whole lot of fun. With a tucked-in waist and ruffled hem, this silhouette gives you an instant hourglass figure. Pair it with your hottest skinnies, like Vic did here, or wear it with a body-con skirt for a back-to-school bash!

Neon and Neutral

Seventeen’s West Coast Fashion Correspondent Kylie Jenner proves that sometimes, all you need to pull together the perfect look is a pair of attention-grabbing pants. Complement bright bottoms like these with a classic white tee to complete the breezy-chic look.

Denim on Denim

Glee star Jenna Ushkowitz is no stranger to high school fashion or denim trends (she just launched her own line for Wall Flower Jeans). Snag her laid-back look by pairing a chambray shirt with black jean shorts, and you’re sure to earn high marks in the style department.

Bright Denim

Zendaya Coleman definitely knows how to Shake It Up on the red carpet. Her fun purple jeans, classic graphic tee, and fitted black blazer are polished, yet casual—a perfect combination for the first day of school!

Studded Shoe

Move over ballet flats and loafers — there’s a new trendy shoe in town! Studded oxfords are the ultimate in rockstar footwear (well, studded boots might trump those) and they’re an instant accessory that doesn’t take time to put on. If edgy is the vibe you’re going for, steal Alexa Chung’s black skinny pants and a bomber jacket combo. Leave it to those supermodels to always look stylish and effortless!

Sweater Dress

You know what makes Katy feel like a Teenage Dream? Rocking something comfortable on her day off! All those tight, tiny dresses have got to get a little tiresome, right? A long sweatshirt worn over tights or leggings is just right for class, and then maybe a date later. After all, if you’re looking for Firework to happen between you and your guy, you are not going to want to be uncomfortable!

Lace Top

Selena’s shirt top is pretty and versatile! Pair it with tailored shorts and cutout heels like the Biebs’ main squeeze did here, or throw in on over a burnout tank and faded skinny jeans for a more relaxed vibe.

Boho Scarf

This is the perfect look to attract a hottie — and Blake should know — she’s snagged everyone from Penn to Ryan! An oversized scarf in a paisley or tribal print stands out and looks trendy, without trying too hard. Pair it with a menswear inspired fedora, patterned tights, and a flirty skirt. Then, wait for the guys to flock…

Harem Pants

This might seem like one of those trends that’s hard to wear, but it’s actually not! As long as your pants are more tailored towards the ankle, you won’t end up looking like you’re rocking PJ’s — we promise. Try the look with pumps to make it more dressy, like Jessica Stroup did here, and fabrics with a little sheen to them look more luxe.

Feather Accessories

Feather earrings, hair extensions, shirt strings — wherever you look, there’s a celeb showing off this indie-inspired flair! If you don’t want to be tamed like Miley, get involved with feathers! Hers look so cute hanging from a sheer linen shirt.

Floral Dress

Jessica Lowndes’ outfit is the perfect thing to wear when seasons are changing. Her floral dress still embraces summer fun, but the navy booties give this look an edge and hint towards fall. Style your hair in half up, half down, loose waves and you’re ready to take on school!

Boyfriend Blazer

Knit beanie? Check. Vintage looking oxfords? Check. Boyfriend? Ummm, her next song will probably spill all, but boyfriend blazer? Check! Taylor hits all the fashion high notes with this casual, yet, sophisticated number.

Pleated Skirt

There’s nothing Gritty about this outfit! Hailee’s pleated skirt and short navy jacket look is girly-meets-grownup glamour at its best!

Lightweight Cardi

Even Pretty Little Liars know layers are key when it comes to the fall — one minute it’s warm and the next it’s chilly! Ashley Benson rocks her black cardi over leather leggings and a silky white top, but it’s a good idea to stash a few of these in your locker or bag, to have just in case the weather changes last minute.

Cropped Jean Jacket

Emma Roberts proves you can totally mix denim trends by sporting a light jean jacket, dark skinnies, and neutral belt and shoes! This look can take you from class, to lunch, to meetings in style!

Update your wardrobe for Spring/Summer 2012 in five steps

Be stylish this season!

Getting ready for Spring/Summer 2012 needn’t involve a complete wardrobe overhaul, so here are five simple steps on what to buy, what to ditch and what to keep for the coming months.

Era to embody: 1920s

Already one of the most talked about films of 2012 despite not being scheduled for release until December, fashionistas will be getting in the mood for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby during the spring and summer months. Gucci led the way at its Spring/Summer 2012 show with geometric print flapper dresses, while the Jazz Age was a key influence at the Etro show. Ralph Lauren was also enamored with the flapper style, with fringed skirts, elaborate beading on dresses, and cloche hats dominating its Spring/Summer 2012 presentation.

Image: Flapper dresses at Gucci

Image: Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2012 runway show featured 1920s-inspired items such as cloche hats.

Motif to embrace: floral

There are certain motifs we know will re-emerge season after season (nautical, lace, floral), and for Spring/Summer 2012 flowers are particularly prevalent. Colorful bloom prints were all over the catwalk, ranging from the iridescent creations adorned with multicolored blooms at Christopher Kane to the broderie anglaise Louis Vuitton frock sported by Lana Del Rey on the cover of UK Vogue’s March issue. Floral pieces from the Vuitton collection have also been seen on covers including British Elle (by Alexa Chung) to Vogue Japan (by Kate Moss). For the coming months, Paul Smith is offering cropped eafloral blazers, Diane von Furstenberg leaf-print pants, while 7 For All Mankind is offering floral print denim and Uniqlo has teamed up with English fashion and lifestyle brand Laura Ashley for a Spring 2012 collection comprising floral prints, T-shirts, stoles, and tunics.

Item to keep from Fall/Winter 11/12: anything leather

One of the biggest revelations to emerge from the Spring/Summer 2012 shows was that leather is no longer the reserve of the winter months — with labels including Hermès, Céline, Balmain and Margiela all championing the material in its various forms. Winter’s leather shorts minus tights and teamed with a sheer blouse makes for an on-trend Spring/Summer 2012 look à la 3.1 Phillip Lim. However, if you do want to invest in something new in the material, lighter tones and minimalist cuts provide a far less wintery aesthetic — Topshop has a variety of neon colored leather jackets for Spring/Summer 2012.

Image: Balmain Spring 2012

Image: Céline Spring 2012

Image: A leather jacket by Topshop

Item to revive from Spring/Summer 2011: the pleated skirt

The influence of ballet thriller Black Swan on the fashion world for Spring/Summer 2011 saw an array of balletic silhouettes dominating the catwalk, and fashionistas who invested in the ubiquitous pleated skirt will be glad to know it’s back for another season. This style ruled the runways at Spring/Summer 2012 shows including Chloé, Etro and Erdem, and can be easily updated for the coming months. For example, combining with a crop top (big news at Spring/Summer 2012 presentations including Versace/D&G and Alexander Wang) will offer an edgier take on the style. Meanwhile, high street retailers including H&M have their own take on the trend, with pleated pencil skirts among the highlights for the coming months.

Items to swap: forget skinny slacks, go wide leg

Since their re-emergence in the early 2000s, slimline slacks have become a wardrobe staple and despite the palazzo pant’s brief moment in the spotlight for Spring/Summer 2011, wide leg trousers have been left in the sidelines. But this is all about to change for Spring/Summer 2012, after labels ranging from Nina Ricci to L.A.M.B. and Roksanda Illincic went for slouchy, ultra wide trousers — many with a high waist. The look has taken to the high street too, from retailers such as Maje to more mass-market brands including H&M picking up on the trend for Spring/Summer 2012. This look works best pared down with a simple T-shirt and ballerina shoes. Petite ladies should add wedges to avoid being swamped by all the excess material.

Fashion Christmas: Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Sadie Frost get in the festive spirit at Stylish Primrose Hill Fair

Kate Moss was spotted at the Primrose Hill Christmas Fair

Kate Moss led the style set of Primrose Hill yesterday, joining fashion types Alexa Chung, Sadie Frost and Pixie Geldof at a Christmas Fair. The event was held to raise money for the village’s Christmas lights after Camden Council refused to stump up cash.

Kate was spotted hanging out on a balcony with Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, both of them watching live performances from the safety of a beer garden.

Fellow ‘fahsion’ types Alexa Chung, Nick Grimshaw and Pixie Geldof showed their support too.
The 37-year-old model also joined fashion BFs (and fellow models turned designers) Sadie Frost and Alexa Chung – both of whom looked stylishly snug in cosy coats and winter scarves. Mother-of-four Sadie Frost performed at the event.
Kate Moss was joined by BF Sadie Frost on the (probably VIP) beer balcony

Gail Porter was kicking off Christmas Primrose Hill-style too, while Pixie looked snug in UGGs

Alexa is currently championing the success of her collection for Madewell which includes 70s-silk shirts, lace tops and Chung-favourite block platforms. The line has proved so popular it crashed the brand’s site.

Alexa tweeted fans: “Congrats! You crashed the @madewell937 website with the purchase onslaught. Glad you like it! Xxxx”.

The model proved she’s just like us (ish) by heading home after the fair to watch the X Factor live results show. Only she was joined by fellow celeb’ Nick Grimshaw, who tweeted pics of them watching the live results show.

Unlike us, Alexa is set to hit the red carpet tonight for the British Fashion Awards, that’s if she sorts the “Brillo head disaster” she tweeted about earlier this morning.

Trending: Polka dots

Championed by Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs on the catwalks, stylish celebrities are already embracing this season’s spotty trend.

Designer Stella McCartney made fun spot shapes the focal point of her autumn/winter 2011 collection. Textured circles worked over sheer fabrics across a monochrome palette ensured the result was one of ultimate sophistication.

British actress Kate Winslet was one of the first starlets to step out in McCartney’s figure-hugging dresses, stealing the spotlight at the premiere of her new TV series Mildre Pierce in the process.

American designer Marc Jacobs is one of the most influential names on the catwalk calendar. Where he goes, others copy. So expect polka dots a plenty, on skirts tops and even fur-trimmed collars and gloves, coming to a high street near you.

Ever ahead of the style curve, TV presenter Alexa Chung embraced minute spots with this effortless navy dress, contrasting some Celine arm candy for maximum effect.

London Fashion Week designer David Koma played with proportions as he fused spots of all sizes – and guises – together.

Style maven Olivia Palermo mastered two trends in one with this pretty, mullet-hemmed dot-print dress by Bensoni.

Cosy winter coats at Diane Von Furstenberg were adorned with a grey polka-print.

Even shoes, as seen on this Paris Fashion Week goer, haven’t escaped a sprinkling of spots.

Radio personality Fearne Cotton opts for the classic navy and white spot colour pairing with this sleeveless shirt.

This chic fashion editor works a covetable monochrome look with a sheer, layered dotty skirt.

Lanvin’s elegant cocktail dresses get the spot treatment.

Actress Kirsten Dunst dips a toe in the trend with this discreet black and white top.

London Fashion Week designer Louise Gray decorated the faces of the models in her autumn/winter 2011 catwalk show with multicoloured spots for a fashiony face-paint.

Actress Olivia Wilde miniature dot-print dress was courtesy of Gucci.

At Paul Smith, trousers were livened up with a grey circle motif.

Diminutive actress turned fashion designer Ashley Olsen’s voluminous dress looks almost two-tone thanks to its sheer sleeves.

The Marc Jacobs show is one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week, and attracts a cult celebrity following. Film director Sofia Coppola, who is often pictured wearing Marc Jacobs, sat front row with British model Karen Elson.

‘Gossip Girl’ star Leighton Meester was also attended sporting a look from the designers’ spring/summer 2011 collection.

Actress Vanessa Hudgens spent time backstage catching up with Mr Jacobs.

A blast from the past: actress Whoopi Goldberg pictures in the Marc Jacobs front row.

Lifestyle guru Martha Stewart was also one of the attendees at Marc Jacobs.

Actress Julia Stiles backstage at Monique Lhuillier.

British style icon and new York resident Alexa Chung made a beeline for the Christian Siriano show on the opening day of Fashion Week, wearing this quirky fox-print maxi.

Stylish socialite Olivia Palermo was seen arriving at the Tommy Hilfiger show in a chic white trouser suit.

US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour cut a stylish figure as she attended the Rag & Bone show.

Actor Hugh Jackman and his wife Debra Lee Furness and their daughter Ava sat on the front row at the Edun show.

Meanwhile it was a star-studded front row at Tommy Hilfiger, with model Petra Nemcova enjoying the show alongside actresses Rosario Dawson, Rose Byrne, and Bella Heathcote.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian was invited to Charlotte Ronson’s catwalk show.

Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt in a bright dress at the Max Azria show.

‘Black Eyed Peas’ star Fergie was seen enjoying the Diane von Furstenberg show.

British BAFTA-nominated actress Gemma Arterton was front row at G-Star, as she is the new ‘face’ of the brand. She was joined by actress Rosario Dawson….

Actress Mena Suvari was also seen soaking up the latest looks by G-Star.

Singer Alicia Keys in the front row at the Altuzarra show.

British modelling sensation Agyness Deyn has hung up her modelling shoes it seems, and opted for headphones and a stint as a DJ instead. The Lancashire beauty provided the soundtrack to the G-Star after party.

Miley Cyrus

We spotted Miley Cyrus leaving a hotel in Paris wearing a checked shirt, military boots, a Chanel quilted handbag (label envy) and slashed tightsSlashed tights are set to be a huge trend for the Autumn Winter season ahead, and judging by this month’s New York and London Fashion Weeks, it’s a trend that’s forecast to last us all the way through to next Summer! Pixie Lott took action and looked outrageously cool when she performed in a pair of fabulous Henry Holland Chain Suspender Tights!!!

Our favourite celebs just can’t get enough of Henry Holland’s Autumn Winter Collection of tights! Seen on stars such as Sophie Ellis Bextor, Pixie Lott is the latest to be spotted in them at V Festival.

Paloma Faith

She is never seen looking anything less than spectacular. Her outfits never fail to be anything short of, works of, forties inspired art. She’s spent her summer festival hoping around the country and looked fabulous at every event that she attended.

This week she’s been spotted shopping around London in a magnificent monochromatic outfit, literally from the hat on her head, to the tights on the tip of her toes; Paloma was a vision of black and white stripes!

Elle MacPherson

She’s been causing a stir all over London this week to promote this seasons Britains Next Top Model. From Jonathon Ross to Radio One we’ve been unable to escape the media’s obsession with our favourite Aussie model, Elle MacPherson! And why would we want to?!

We are ridiculously excited to have a fresh face gracing the pages of our weekly glossies. (Seen Jordan and Alex quite enough for one life time?) And didn’t she look stunning at the Britain’s Next Top Model launch party?! Wet Look Leggings back in this season? They are now!

Pixie Lott

Pixie Lott looks devine in this picture taken when she was leaving the BBC radio 1 studios in London at the end of May.
At just 18 her style is fresh, funky and fabulous, so easy to copy by her legions of adoring fans. Look out for her new album Turn it Up!  - for some fab songs to listen to whilst enjoying the lovely summer sun.
Pixie’s black sheer stay-ups are so on trend this summer – have a look at our feature on wearing stockings as outerwear for more inspiration, if you think this look could be for you! Don’t forget – leave the body lotion off your legs if you’re wearing stay-ups, or they won’t stay up for long!

Alexa Chung

The lady of the moment Alexa Chung is one of the hottest style icons in the fashion and music industry. Once a model and the TV presenter for T4, Alexa’s classic, feminine approach to fashion has influenced many fashionistas across the world. We love this cute layered look, accessorising the classic spot tights with the new lace shorts is a keen look for 2010. Tightsplease have a range of sheer tights that will work perfectly with shorts look.

Agyness Deyn

Looking chic and funky, Agyness Deyn shows her support to best friend Henry Holland wearing the funky Contrast House Tights that have featured in his latest collection. Being a style icon and a top model, Tightsplease loves Agyness’s classic grunge look that fails to look anything but fabulous!

Holly Valance

Holly Valance first came bursting onto our screens way, way back when she was Flick Scully,  in Aussie soap Neighbours. But most people will remember the beauty for her exotic dancing in the video for her hit song Kiss Kiss an upbeat, catchy Turkish dance track that was the anthem to 2002. She’s been in lots of US dramas  since then, but here we can see her sporting a much more demure look as she arrives at a top London hotel after the premier of the film Remember Me. We love the tights and pretty shoes.

Fearne Cotton

One of our favourite celebs is stepping out looking amazing yet again! This time she has tapped into one of the most exciting trends for Autumn and Winter – Lurex tights. They were shown on the catwalk at Anna Sui, Luella, Eley Kishimoto and Bluegirl and are one of the most exciting ways to add drama to a patterned dress, or simple shift. They look fabulous worn in the day with knee length boots and for night time they give a youthful edgey look to a little black dress and heels. So this Autumn shimmy on over  to our lurex section to see how sparkling tights can add spice to your wardrobe.

Agyness Deyn

Agyness Deyn has been spotted strutting her stuff in the new craze of Henry Holland Tights. Not sure about the big fury animal she is sporting but the tightsplease ladies are defiantly in favour of the Colour Card Tights. The tights pictured are available in a range of colour to suit most outfits and trends. I personally love the black and the pink colours. The pink can brighten up any staple black dress while the black look effortlessly sexy teamed with high Courts and a cute mini. Pixie Geldof has also caught on to the Holland mania when she was pictured in the ‘Mock Stocks’.

Pixie Geldof

On her 18th Birthday, Pixie Geldof celebrated by having a birthday lunch accompanied by her friends and family.  Pixie later went on to enjoy her special day by treating herself as she went on a shopping spree on London’s Oxford Street in London. Recently she has shown herself to be the ultimate it girl following in the footsteps of her mother Paula, by appearing as covergirl for society, glossy magazine Tatler twenty six years later. Pixie’s style is cool and chic and we love her black net tights worn with her itsy bitsy mini. Love the look? Charnos Honey Comb Tights make a great match.

Fearne Cotton

Fearne Cotton always has the knack of looking effortlessly chic. We in the Tightsplease.co.uk office love Fearne’s eclectic style. Here we see her sporting the latest trend this summer for over the knee socks. The trick to over the knees is making sure they are the right denier to fit your shoes. Red or Dead’s 50 denier over the knees, or Wolford’s over the knees are made from opaque tights fabric which make them finer and easier to fit into ballet pumps or wear with heels for an evening look. The Pamela Mann over the knees and Falke Striggings ribbed or plain over the knees are thicker like socks and better for daytime. With the weather often wet and overcast – over the knees are the perfect way to accessorise your summer frock.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga arrives at London’s Heathrow Airport without her signature tea cup and saucer! This time she’s accessorised her outfit with pretty butterfly embellished shoes, butterfly sunglasses and a whopping umberella! We all love the poker face star here at tightsplease.co.uk and today we are going ga-ga that she’s wearing black fishnets. The ones she’s wearing are a more open fishnet that we’ve also seen on the D&G spring / summer catwalk – fishnets from Levante are very similar. Fishnets are great for the spring transition from black opaques.

Agyness Deyn

Agyness Deyn steps out in stylish Christmas, berry red tights on her walk from her home in North London. We love the matching hat, fingerless gloves and tights. Agyness is always an inspiration to us with her hosiery and cute ankle socks and we look forward to seeing what amazing outfits she puts together next year! Love her look? Choose 40 denier tights upwards in scarlet, flo red or blast for the richest red shades ever!

Shop Her Closet

Kirsten Dunst attended the 2011 Toronto Film Festival Premiere of her new movie “Melancholia” yesterday.

The blonde actress chose to combine a look with pieces from Prada and Chanel.

She paired a navy and white polka-dot printed V-neck Prada blouse with a long pleated Chanel cream skirt.

Kirsten accessorized her look with strappy, silver embellished heels, a black clutch with gold trim detail and an elegant pair of floral-shaped earrings, which provided a pop of colour with a turquoise jewel center.

I like how Kirsten’s pieces work together to create a sophisticated but classic ensemble.  She complemented her look with a sleek half-up, half-down hairstyle and pretty light pink lip-gloss.

Rachel Bilson attended The CW Launch Party held at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California this week.

The ‘Hart Of Dixie’ actress wore an Erin Fetherston Resort 2012 dress.

Her pretty blush pink ruffled strapless dress was also worn with a cropped black Vanessa Bruno blazer.

Rachel accessorized her look with an emerald green Edie Parker glitter clutch and silk blush-toned Giuseppe Zanotti platform heels.

She completed her girly look with a chic up-do and light, pretty makeup.

The look feels a lot more chic with the blazer don’t you think?

Alexa Chung was spinning the decks at Stella McCartney’s Fashion’s Night Out event at the designer’s store in New York City this week.

The model and TV presenter chose a Stella McCartney Resort 2012 dress.

Her white dress which is adorned with cute black bows was teamed with Jimmy Choo ‘Wheel’ silver glitter flats.

Alexa finished her look with her trademark cat eye makeup and wore her hair in a casual ponytail.

It’s a more feminine look than what we’re used to on Alexa and I’m thankful she didn’t wear grubby boots for a refreshing change.

A similar version of this dress was recently spotted on Andrea Riseborough.

Rachel Bilson celebrated Fashion’s Night Out at Sunglass Hut in The Beverly Center, LA.

The actress, who is Style Director at Sunglass Hut, chose a typically perfect ensemble pairing a Vanessa Bruno white maxi skirt and cropped black blazer with an A.L.C semi-sheer tank.

She accessorized with a Luv AJ headband and Chloé wedges.

This is such a pretty, feminine look and Rachel completed it with slick straight hair and light, pretty makeup.

Kylie Minogue was photographed arriving at an office in London on Wednesday.

The petite singer wore a black YSL dress with a Karl Lagerfeld-esqe white collar and cuffs.

Her silver button down dress was accessorized with black pumps and tan oversized sunglasses.

A casual ponytail and pretty makeup completed her formal street style look.

Marion Cotillard made her first television appearance since having a baby on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ last night.

The new mum, who was there to promote her movie “Contagion,” glowed in a one-shouldered teal Lanvin draped cocktail dress.

She accessorized with only a pair of T-strap peep-toe heels adorned with a cute bow and a thin bracelet.

I think the dress looks incredible but I do feel some earrings would have taken this ensemble up a notch. It feels a little too bare without any.

An up-do and perfectly flawless makeup completed her gorgeous look.

Kate Mara attended the premiere of “Tanner Hall” in LA last night to show her support for sister Rooney Mara, who stars in the movie.

The actress chose a simple red wool crepe Prada Fall 2011 short sleeve dress.

She added to her look Prada Fall 2011 accessories, including a rust-coloured lurex button-detail clutch and a sexy pair of Prada Cammeo python heels.

Kate wore her fiery locks down in pretty curls and opted for lightly rimmed eyes and coral lips.

It’s a simple but classic look and I love how her accessories complement her hair.

Everyone’s Wearing… 70s

Elle Macpherson

If you want people to pay attention, throwing on a yellow jumpsuit and styling it to the 70s hilt is a good way to go about it. Elle Macpherson helped her new reality TV show, Fashion Star, to hit international headlines when she was papped during filming in this flared mustard silk all-in-one and gold Lara Bohinc necklace.

Brooklyn Decker

For the German premiere of her film Just Go With It, Brooklyn Decker managed to achieve the seemingly unachievable – stealing in limelight from co-star Jennifer Aniston. Her secret? A show-stopping, split-leg purple jumpsuit by Max Mara worn, in true 70s style, without a bra.

Angela Lindvall

At the super-starry Christie’s Green Auction in NYC, model Angela Lindvall channelled 70s glamour in this black halterneck gown with silver sequin streaks.

Olivia Palermo

Never one to let a trend pass by untried, The Hills star Olivia Palermo wore this button-down peach Mango maxi dress with a tan belt to a fashion show thrown by the high street label in March.

Katie Holmes

A classic camel coat teamed with flared jeans, suede boots and a satin shirt is the perfect, subtle take on 70s casual. If we know Katie Holmes – and we think we do, fashion-wise – we’ll bet she’s hiding an on-trend high waistline under there, too.

Dakota Fanning

You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped back in time if you saw Dakota Fanning strolling around LA, like the ultimate 70s ingénue, in her straw trilby, crochet cardigan, denim flares and wooden platforms.

Florence Welch

Top-to-toe in new season Chanel, Florence Welch clearly has her finger on the 70s fashion pulse.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie’s penchant for boho makes her a natural 70s fit. This floral cape look, which the TV-star-turned-designer wore to the Jean Paul Gaultier show at Paris Fashion Week in March, is one of our absolute favourite of hers, ever.

Kylie Minogue

Nothing says 70s more than a tiered maxi and tottering platform heels. Kylie Minogue is our go-to girl for sweet summer day looks.

Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr’s plunge-front Balenciaga maxi dress hit the 70s nail square on the head – as do her open-toe sandals, suede clutch bag and natural make-up.

Alexa Chung

You bet that fashion rule-breaker Alexa Chung can pull off a 70s style. There are no floor-scraping hemlines to be seen here, though – instead, Ms Chung makes the trend her own in a sweet, peasant-style smock dress (by Chanel, nonetheless).

Claudia Schiffer

Claudia Schiffer is a serial 70s style stalker. Her key pieces of choice? Printed neckerchiefs, embroidered peasant skirts, high-waisted denim flares and bug-eye sunglasses.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria wouldn’t look out of place if she stumbled into Studio 54 circa 1978 in this all-black, silk-and-sequins jumpsuit.

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum took on the 70s trend in a tobacco-coloured, high-necked, wide-legged, key-hole cutout jumpsuit – and, sadly, we’re not sure she won.

Leighton Meester

Gossip Girl Leighton Meester looks a 70s dream in her psychedelic Marc Jacobs dress.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus channels the indomitable fashion spirit of Stevie Nicks in her fringed, floral shawl. Poptastic!

Shenae Grimes

Fringed sleeves, a cutaway front and a floor-skimming hemline; Shenae Grimes ticks all the 70s revival boxes in her black maxi.

Claire Danes

There’s more than a touch of 70s style icon Bianca Jagger about Claire Danes in this sleek Calvin Klein tuxedo dress.

Camilla Belle

Gucci put one of the season’s strongest 70s showings on the catwalk and Camilla Belle captured the spirit of it perfectly, top-to-toe in the label’s glamorous brights.

Fergie

Diane Von Furstenberg was one of the original 70s icons – so it’s little wonder that Fergie chose to channel the designer’s style as she attended her autumn/winter 2011 fashion show in New York.

Rose McGowan

Rose McGowan was boogie-ready at the SAG awards thanks to her hot pink, 70s-inspired plunge-front gown.

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood scored a serious style hit in this peasant-style Gucci dress and knee-high leather boots on the promo trail for her new film The Conspirator.

Isabel Lucas

How wide can you go? Isabel Lucas took the 70s to the streets when she was papped out and about in these monumental flares.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens demonstrated precisely why the 70s is the era of choice for festival fashionistas in this cute flower power-inspired look at Coachella.

Karen Elson

Halterneck? Tick. Print? Tick. All-in-one? Tick. Karen Elson got it right on all fronts at Marc Jacobs’ autumn/winter 2011 show.

Paris Hilton

With her hair braid, tie-die maxi and glitzy gold cover-up, Paris Hilton made the perfect 70s statement on the streets of LA.

VV Brown

Singer VV Brown looked 70s-tastic in this gold lame maxi dress with contrasting high neck and deep cuffs at the Prince’s Trust Awards.

Kate Moss

Never one to let a trend pass her by (though, admittedly, she’s long since been an ‘out’ 70s devotee), Kate Moss rocked this long-sleeved pink maxi dress and sheepskin gilet for lunch at luxe London eatery The Wolseley. We’re giving her a bonus point for that scarf tied onto her handbag, too.

Tess Daly

Tess Daly killed two trends with one outfit at the TRIC Awards. Her split-leg MaxMara jumpsuit ticks both the 70s and tangerine boxes.

Lindsay Lohan

Night fever! Lindsay Lohan appeared to be channelling a young John Travolta in this pair of high-waisted white flares recently.

Who Wore It Best?

Olivia Palermo VS Victoria Beckham

For a screening of new movie The Ledge a couple of weeks ago, Olivia Palermo pulled back her hair and popped on this zesty Victoria Beckham design with a eclectic choice of accessories: embellished brass cuff, hot pink petal clutch and leopard print heels.

Whenever we see a Victoria Beckham dress on a celeb, though, it’s bound to have been worn before – by the designer herself. Well, you would, wouldn’t you?! VB gave this beauty its first public outing back in November, when she took it out to dinner along with her favourite Victoria bag.

WINNER: There’s nothing in it when you’re just looking at two gorgeous ladies in a gorgeous dress – so it’s Posh’s flawlessly sleek accessorising that nudges her into the top spot.

Kate Middleton vs Sarah Jessica Parker

Kate Middleton‘s love affair with Alexander McQueen is about as well-documented as it gets. So we couldn’t help but feel that this cable-knit, sailor-style dress was a sartorially spot-on choice as part of her Canada tour wardrobe.

…It also fits with the austerity drive too, as it’s not a new-season design. In fact, Sarah Jessica Parker wore the same dress in navy (along with a punchy pair of red mules and contrasting tan clutch) to celebrate her husband Matthew Broderick being awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame all the way back in 2006.

WINNER: We can’t help but feel that Kate’s take on this dress is a little uninspired. SJP edges it thanks to her fearless shoe choice.

Olivia Palermo vs Elen Rivas

Just when we thought Olivia Palermo couldn’t get any cooler, she shows up on the front row of a Couture show in Paris wearing a stunning lampshade dress from Zara – yes, it’s from the high street! – accessorised to the hilt with feathers and bling. Bravo!

Unfortunately for Elen Rivas, the very same day that Olivia was styling it up in the fashion capital she was papped wearing exactly the same design – in with a bad pose and with unfortunate rogue bra strap on the loose. We do rate her candy-coloured peeptoes, though.

WINNER: Olivia’s super-polished take on this dress earns her a no-contest win.

Jessica Szohr V Irina Shayk

Gossip Girl star Jessica Szohr looked cute as a button when she wore this beachy Raquel Allegra tie-dye maxi dress with a bouffant ponytail and flat sandals to an event promoting So.Be drinks.

We wonder whether Ronaldo’s squeeze, Irina Shayk, was paying attention? Just a few days later, we spotted the model wearing exactly the same dress, albeit cinched in with a silver belt and paired with a boxy white handbag and black gladiator sandals.

WINNER: Both girls have put their own stamp on this dress, but it’s Jessica’s easy, breezy summer style that does it for us.

Paris Hilton V Katie Price

Talk about a blast from the past! Paris Hilton wore this blue asymmetric Brian Lichtenberg dress to the Fox Reality Awards back in 2009, accentuating its shape with a sculptural up-do.

Katie Price probably thought enough water had passed under the fashion bridge to get away with wearing the same design – albeit in red, and with loose hair – to the Terrence Higgins Trust Gala dinner a couple of weeks ago. But nothing gets past our eagle eyes, Katie!

WINNER: Paris’ sophisticated take on the look wins hands down for us – and we’re suckers for blonde on blue.

Emma Roberts vs Laura Bailey

It’s no secret that Emma Roberts is a Chanel devotee, so we weren’t surprised to see her on the front row of the label’s spring/summer 2011 catwalk show in this classic blue tweed dress with flirty feather trim in March.

Brit model Laura Bailey followed suit (well, dress), a few months later at the Royal Academy of Arts preview at Somerset House. Like Emma, she kept her blonde locks loose and opted for a neat clutch and closed-toe platform heels to finish.

WINNER: It’s a tough one, but we think Emma just pips Laura to the prize.

Diane Kruger vs Natalie Massenet

Diane Kruger caused quite the stir in this neon lace-panelled maxi dress with contrast belt at the Liaisons au Louvre event in Paris last month. The distinctive design is by hot new name-to-know Alessandra Rich.

…But eagle-eyed style watchers will have known that already, as Net-A-Porter founder Natalie Massenet – whose online boutique is championing the label – debuted it at the Royal Academy of Arts preview at Somerset House at the beginning of June.

WINNER: The nonchalent blonde waves, the strappy blush sandals, the micro-clutch… This is a triumph for Diane.

Christina Aguilera vs. Kristen Stewart

Christina Aguilera stepped out in this asymmetric lace Valentino cocktail dress – accessorised with her usual va-va-voom armoury of bombshell tresses, red lip, full-on tan and peeptoe heels – for the 2nd Annual Mary J Blige Honors Concert in New York last month.

Proving that it’s not what you wear, it’s the way that you wear it, Kristen Stewart wore exactly the same dress in a completely different way (messy up-do, closed-toe heels, natural skintone) for a screening of Welcome To The Rileys back in October 2010.

WINNER: Kristen’s demure take on this wins hands down for us. Sorry, Xtina!

Kate Middleton vs. Lydia Bright

Kate Middleton earned Reiss’ Shola dress a gazillion column inches when it was the first post-honeymoon look she was pictured in. Oh, and she also happened to be chatting to Michelle Obama at the time. Talk about a double whammy.

Pity, then, TOWIE‘s Lydia Bright, who was snapped just a week later in the same design as she did a spot of shopping in London.

WINNER: Oh, Lydia, honey. This was one battle you were never going to win – so why even try?

Ciara vs. Kylie Minogue

For Clive Davis’ Pre-Grammy Gala earlier this year, US singer Ciara ensured all eyes were on her by keeping the lacing on her gorgeous micro mini Emilio Pucci dress loose and pairing it with lashings of diamond accessories.

Kylie, meanwhile, took a more conservative approach when she wore the same dress to a theatre opening night last month; pulling it in tighter, and adding two actual feathers for a neat styling one-two.

WINNER: Ciara, there’s no denying that you look seriously hot, but Kylie and Pucci go together like Lagerfeld and Chanel. Kylie wins!

Kate Bosworth vs. Taylor Swift

No wonder Kate Bosworth looks so pleased with herself. This lust-worthy white lace dress, which she was snapped in out and about in Colorado a few weeks ago, is a £48 Topshop treasure. The actress made a monochrome statement by adding opaque tights and killer Mulberry boots.

…But Taylor Swift had already set the sartorial standard, pairing the dress with bare legs and, ingeniously, a black tulle underskirt and belt when she was spotted in it in London the week prior.

WINNER: Taylor’s only gone and done it – out-styled the style queen herself! Ms Swift, we salute you.

Olga Kurylenko vs. Nicky Hilton

Bond girl Olga Kurylenko snapped up this stunning silver Giorgio Armani cocktail dress with origami fan detailing before taking her place on the front row of the designer’s couture show in Paris earlier this year. Who can blame her? Simple black accessories finished off the look.

Fast forward four months, and Nicky Hilton put a different spin on the dress with a strict updo and coordinating silver shoes and jewellery at the 18th Annual Race To Erase MS gala in NYC.

WINNER: There really isn’t much in this one, but we’re handing it to Olga. This dress requires some smouldering and Nicky’s look is edging prim.

Cameron Diaz vs. Pippa Middleton

Back in 2009, Cameron Diaz teamed this hot red Alexander McQueen gown with vertiginous Salvatore Ferragamo heels and an up do for the Golden Globes – and won critical approval for her bared-back, sexed up style.

So who would’ve believed that, two years later, we’d see the same dress – albeit slightly modified – sashaying down the aisle at the most celebrated royal wedding in decades? Pippa Middleton is the most unlikely style crush to have come out of the occasion (we already loved The Queen, FYI).

WINNER: It has to be Pippa. Not only was the occasion momentous, but the rear view of her in this dress is now an internet phenomenon. Respect!

Rose McGowan vs. Kate Middleton

Rose McGowan dazzled in this hot pink Issa dress at this year’s SAG awards, styling it up Studio 54-style with sexy loose waves and a chunky cuff.

Kate Middleton‘s Issa obsession is well-documented, so it’s little wonder that she was also spotted rocking the same dress before she was a married woman. Kate paired hers with a black clutch bag, diamond earrings and, unsurprisingly, a more conservative neckline.

WINNER: Tough one. But this dress was made for turning heads, so it’s Rose’s out-and-out ‘look at me!’ take on it that wins out for us.

Katherine Jenkins vs. Brooklyn Decker

Katherine Jenkins loves a bit of Victoria Beckham, so we were pleased to see that this gorgeous caramel fitted dress (which features a zip full down the back) made the cut when she attended an event at the Royal Albert Hall in March.

The dress was also the dress of choice, however, for US starlet Brooklyn Decker, who wore it to Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. Check those curves!

WINNER: While it’s impossible to choose between the girls in the dress itself, Brooklyn just edges this one on account of her shoes – Katherine’s look a little clumpy and uninspired in comparison – and that divine, directional bob.

Abbie Cornish vs. Chelsea Clinton

Aussie actress Abbie Cornish played it safe on the red carpet at the premiere of her new film, Limitless, last month. You can’t go far wrong in an LBD – especially if it’s current season Lanvin. She kept the rest of her look understated with a black clutch and heels, and a classic gold watch.

Chelsea Clinton had exactly the same idea back in December – she wore the same dress for The Clinton Foundation’s Millennium Network Event in LA with thick black tights and, interestingly, even less jewellery than Cornish.

WINNER: Congrats, Abbie! We think this dress calls for bare legs to show it off to its full potential, so you’ve got it spot on.

Christine Bleakley vs. Zara Phillips

Christine Bleakley pulled out all the stops at the premiere of her film A Turtle’s Tale, rocking this leather-trimmed Burberry trench coat – which would set you back an eye-watering £1,895, fashion fans – with black jeans and V-cut shoe-boots by Christian Louboutin.

Not normally known for her fashion cred, royal yoof Zara Phillips impressively beat Bleakley to the punch by a week, debuting the very same coat with thick black opaque tights, strappy Burberry heels, shades and a beret to the Cheltenham festival.

WINNER: You’re always going to look great in a design like this, so it’s Zara’s military-inspired super-styling does it for us. Sorry, Christine!

Rosamund Pike vs. Alexa Chung

Talk about out of this world! Rosamund Pike snaffled this Christopher Kane galaxy-print dress back in January for the New York premiere of her new film, Barney’s Version, teaming it with a simple pair of black opaques, black heels and a red carpet-ready box clutch.

Trendsetter Alexa Chung was quick to hop on the extra-terrestrial bandwagon, rocking exactly the same look – right down to the mussed-up hair and black tights – to the NME Awards last month.

Winner: It’s near impossible to separate the two – but we’re handing this victory to Rosamund for getting into the spirit with that amazing orb ring.

Kate Beckinsale vs. Amanda Peet

Kate Beckinsale wore this Nina Ricci lace confection in pink to an LA screening of Nowhere Boy last September. Keeping her hair and make-up pared back, she teamed it with simple nude peeptoes and a bronze clutch to set off her California glow.

Almost exactly six months later, Amanda Peet rocked the white version to the Independent Spirit Awards – putting a wintery spin on it by adding sheer black polka-dot tights and black peeptoe Mary-Janes.

Winner: Kate’s relaxed, sunny take on this look wins hands down for us. Amanda’s harsh black accessories, though not awful, seem to detract from the prettiness of the dress.

Lindsay Lohan vs. Kelly Osbourne

This Alexander Wang denim and leather jacket has been a mainstay in Lindsay Lohan’s wardrobe for a couple of years. Here, she gives it another airing in LA with a trusty pair of leggings and white T, accessorised with teetering brown platforms, sunnies and a panama hat.

Kelly O had the same idea earlier this month, throwing on her Wang over a white T and black trousers – but upping the glam stakes into the bargain with Monroe-esque waves and a slick of red lipstick.

Winner: Lindsay just can’t compete with sheer fashion force of Kelly’s immaculate styling. Kelly wins!

Pixie Geldof vs. January Jones

Pixie Geldof went dotty at the House Of Holland show at London Fashion Week. Literally. Never one to do things by halves, she teamed her navy wide-leg Topshop trousers with a matching blouse  - and came off looking quite fabulous, actually.

Across the pond, January Jones dressed down her Topshop purchase with black boots, a denim jacket and a plain knit as she headed to her car in LA last week.

Winner: Controversial, we know, but Pixie has wowed us here. (Though to be fair to January, probably couldn’t look bad even if she tried.)

Kate Beckinsale vs. Kim Kardashian

At last year’s Cannes Film Fesitival, Kate Beckinsale looked every inch the movie goddess as she took to the red carpet in this elaborately-pleated Nina Ricci gown. Those glossy, honey waves and chandelier drop earrings are pure A-list.

Nine months down the line reality TV hottie Kim Kardashian had the same idea, wearing the gown to a Golden Globes after party – albeit with slightly more dramatic styling in the hair and make-up department.

Winner: Kate is blowing away all the competition this month! It’s a close call, but her more natural styling gives this stunning dress more room to shine.

Olivia Palermo vs. Chloe Green

If there’s a Topshop hero piece to be had, you can guarantee that Olivia’s going to be the girl to bag it. She – somewhat controversially, it has to be said – teamed this stand-out maxi skirt with a chunky jumper and tan belt to sit front row at the London Fashion Week spring/summer 2011 shows.

…But she has competition in the way of Chloe Green, whose papa actuallyownsTopshop – tough break, Olivia. Just a day later, she stole Olivia’s style thunder by wearing the same distinctive skirt with a faux fur-shouldered jacket and long-sleeved navy T.

Winner: It’s a victory for Chloe! We see where Olivia was going with this but, when it comes to the crunch, we just don’t think she pulled it off.

Brooklyn Decker vs. Tess Daly

Brooklyn Decker took to the red carpet in Germany for her flick Just Go With It in this showstopping split-leg purple jumpsuit by Max Mara, which she teamed with strappy coral heels and a dischevelled up-do. We don’t blame her for pulling out all the stops – co-star Jennifer Aniston was also in attendance…

Proving herself to be a bit of a Max Mara obsessive, Tess Daly wore the same design to this year’s Brit Awards (it’s one of a handful of Max Mara pieces she’s been seen in of late). Here, she added a Grecian twist with a silver arm cuff and plaits, plus closed-toe silver heels.

Winner: Brooklyn gets our vote. Such a strong design calls for pared-back styling, and we can’t get enough of that colour pop at the heel.

Cheryl Cole vs. January Jones

The Versace dress Cheryl wore for the National Television Awards just a couple of weeks ago had the best of both worlds: a conservatively chic front panel, and an über-sexy, ultra-revealing cut-out back.

But this dress had already had its A-list moment, worn by January Jones to a fashion industry party back in November last year.

Winner: January’s up-do really lets the detail of this dress shine through. A rare loss for Cheryl!

Katy Perry vs. Ashanti

It was an unusually tame look for quirk queen Katy Perry, but she still looked stunning in this floor-length, metallic print Issa gown at a charity benefit in December. Loving the side-swept locks, Katy.

But, just a month before, another pop princess had already debuted the very same dress. Ashanti sported hers on the red carpet of a New York awards ceremony, with a half-up, half-down ‘do.

Winner: Since both girls steered clear of heavy accessories, it’s the hair and make-up that will win this round – and Katy’s pink lips, smoky eyes and to-die-for beachy locks are the clear victors.

Nicole Richie vs. Ellen Pompeo

It’s pretty handy designing your own collection, because it means you get to wear exactly what you want all the time! Nicole Richie was doing just that way back in 2009, when she donned this sparkly Winter Kate number with black tights and YSL heels for a New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas.

Exactly a year later, Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo got her hands on the same dress for another Vegas party. The way she wore it? With black tights and black heels, just like Nicole!

Winner: We’d have preferred to see both ladies sans tights, but nevertheless we reckon this gold beauty fits better with Nicole’s natural, boho aesthetic than with Ellen’s. She is the designer, after all…

What do you think?

Kerry Washington vs. Kate Middleton

Gorgeous actress Kerry Washington is famed for her ultra-pretty red carpet choices – and this creamy Temperley London dress was no exception.

But there’s more than one way to wear this piece, as Princess-to-be Kate Middleton proved last Christmas matching it with a traditional blazer and sheer tights.

Winner: If this were a hair contest, Kate would win hands down, but those dated sheer tights means she loses out to Kerry in the style stakes on this one.

Claire Danes vs. Jaime Winstone

We thought this nude, criss-cross gown couldn’t get any more gorgeous when we spotted it on Claire Danes at 2004′s Costume Institute Gala…

…until Jaime Winstone rocked it even better at last year’s BAFTAs with a retro hair ‘do and strong make-up.

Winner: Jaime’s bags of attitude and daring beauty look are what won the GLAMOUR.COM girls over this time.

Audrina Patridge vs. Khloe Kardashian

Tumbling curls and a single bracelet were all the accessories Hills star Audrina Patridge needed to rock this rich red Alexander McQueen gown on the red carpet for the series’ season 4 finale in 2008.

Fast forward to last month, and fellow reality TV star Khloe Kardashian dug the same dress out of the archives for the People’s Choice Awards, this time in light dove grey.

Winner: Khloe’s colour choice was pretty, but there’s no beating Audrina’s va-va-voom red.

Your Fashion Future

If You Loved…Black Lace

Romantic but super sexy, black lace was everybody’s favourite choice for high-octane partywear this Christmas. Emma Watson went gothic on the red carpet in this sultry number, the high street was awash with über-cool bargain alternatives, and the autumn catwalks –from Dolce & Gabbana to Donna Karan – saw plenty of action from this ultra-glam fabric, too.

You Should Try…Spring’s Lace

The Catwalk Inspiration: Erdem (pictured), Christopher Kane, Alberta Ferretti, Dolce & Gabbana

Lace lovers needn’t worry – while the midnight shades will look too dressy when spring swings around, there’s a whole new palette of colours to play with. Go for confident reds á la Erdem if you dare, or vintage-look nudes as seen at Dolce & Gabbana.

If You Loved…Red Dresses

From very tuned-in statement pops of colour on heels, handbags and scarves to bold, look-at-me dresses in scarlet, tomato, claret and cherry, red was the colour to be noticed in this season.

You Should Try…Tangerine

The Catwalk Inspiration: Prada (pictured), Cacharel, Giambattista Valli, Christian Dior, Marni

Bear with us on this one! Though orange might not initially seem like the most appealing of wardrobe shades, we saw it all over the spring catwalks worked in all kinds of cool ways. Our favourite? Invest in a little fake bake, then rock this colour as a tropical print dress with contrasting hot pink and turquoise accessories.

If You Loved…Camel Colours

The coat of this season? It has to be the classic camel number: eternally chic, works with everything – it was the best investment buy of the last six months! And that’s not where the craze stopped either – serious stylists were trying out the trend as 70s-inspired trousers and sweaters, too…

You Should Try…Neon Brights

The Catwalk Inspiration: Christopher Kane (pictured), Jil Sander, Acne, Celine, Jason Wu, DKNY, Versace

…Buuut, what better way to forget winter’s grey days than spring’s mega brights. No, this isn’t neons the nu rave way – for 2011 acid hued pieces are taking a grown-up turn. Look out for ladylike dresses and cropped jackets in sunshine shades, or have a go at matching zingy trousers or shorts with a simple white or grey tee.

If You Loved…Minimalism

Understated luxury, pared-back chic and unassuming elegance were all buzzphrases for winter – think Calvin Klein’s no-frills approach to dressing. Celebs like Angelina and rival Jennifer Aniston loved this trend’s grown-up feel and its muted palette of greys, navies, blacks and nudes.

You Should Try…Crisp Whites

The Catwalk Inspiration: Practically all of them! Our top tips include DSquared (pictured), Stella McCartney, Fendi and Michael Kors

Those of us with a hankering for even more simplicity will have found it in this spring’s obsession with utilitarian whites. Forget the floaty, peasant numbers of the Sienna Miller days, because we’re talking futurism this spring – clean lines, and sharp, crisp and precisely tailored pieces.

If You Loved…Shearling

Before autumn had even started, we couldn’t move without seeing a forward-thinking lady sporting one of these aviator-style leather jackets, and, inspired by Alexa Chung, Nicola Roberts and the Burberry models, the trend carried on well into the end of last year.

You Should Try…Spring Leather

The Catwalk Inspiration: Balmain (pictured), Gucci, Celine

For a similar rock chick, Kate Moss vibe, have a go at working leather as the weather warms up. It doesn’t have to be hot ‘n’ sticky: skintight styles are totally passé anyway, so snap up loose-fitting shorts, skater-esque skirts and sleeveless tank tops which can be layered over knitted tights and sweaters until the sun starts coming out.

If You Loved…Animal Print

The leopard print faux fur coat’s become a winter staple in the GLAMOUR.COM girls’ wardrobes, but that’s not where this trend ended. Heating up our evening wear, we spotted wild at heart prints on every A-lister from Fearne to Rachel Bilson, and on plenty of mini-dresses and accessories during party season.

You Should Try…Tribal Prints

The Catwalk Inspiration: Diane Von Furstenberg (pictured), Missoni, Derek Lam

Animal print purists will be pleased to know the look’s definitely sticking around for another season, but if you’re into test-driving something new, pick up jumpsuits, harem pants and batwing t-shirts in patterns inspired by every corner of the globe.

If You Loved…English Heritage

Barbour jackets, leather riding boots and cable knits: countryside staples made a comeback this winter, thanks to trend champion Alexa Chung and the über-cool catwalks of Great British institutions Paul Smith and Topshop. Tweeds, plaids, sheepskin and wool all went from musty to must-have in a couple of months.

You Should Try…Tropical Fruit Prints

The Catwalk Inspiration: Moschino Cheap & Chic (pictured), Stella McCartney, Betsey Johnson, Prada

An easy to way to channel the quirkiness of the heritage trend in a spring-friendly way! Delve into a veritable fruit bowl of inspiration – retro banana, orange, lemon and pineapple prints make the coolest finish to this spring’s dresses and short-sleeved shirts.

If You Loved…Maxi Skirts

Even when summer was over, we couldn’t get enough of floor-sweeping hems. The winter way to wear maxis was 90s-style: grunged-up, with chunky work boots, heavy, holey sweaters and faux furs, like Brit It-girls Fearne Cotton and Daisy Lowe.

You Should Try…Mid-Calf Hems

The Catwalk Inspiration: Fendi (pictured), Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu

Change it up by getting in touch with your inner lady (you know, the one who really wouldn’t approve of your slightly chipped nail polish and the run in your tights) and invest in one these utterly feminine, totally timeless numbers. Works best with heels ‘n’ tights or simple sandals when it’s warm.

If You Loved…Mad Men Styling

Whether it was Joan, Peggy or Betty whose style you wanted to steal, the Mad Men effect gave us a retro fabulous winter of swishing circle skirts, cinched in waists and hourglass figures – with Dita Von Teese as the look’s most famous face.

You Should Try…Revisiting The 70s

The Catwalk Inspiration: Salvatore Ferregamo (pictured), Temperley London, Marc Jacobs, Etro

Flares, high-waistbands, floppy hats and headscarves: you better believe it because the 70s is spring/summer 2011’s defining decade. All the most famous silhouettes are back, as are round-rimmed sunnies, big hair and anything that would have worked at Studio 54. Go forth and stock up (or just raid your mum’s wardrobe).

Summer Beauty Trends

This season’s most sizzling hair and makeup looks

Bobbed Hair

Lighten up for summer—literally! Brooklyn Decker lopped off her locks, and so have Jennifer Aniston, Olivia Munn, and Keira Knightley (just to name a few). The latest star to make the cut? Glee‘s Dianna Agron.

Bold Lashes

Lush fringe complemented turquoise shadow at the Christian Dior spring/summer show; Ginnifer Goodwin pulls off the look perfectly.

Whimsical Waves

Blake Lively is the queen of sexy, tousled tresses—and according to runway-hair gurus, this lived-in texture is au courant.

Burgundy Lips

Don’t toss your wintery red lipstick just yet! Makeup maven Pat McGrath painted puckers dark rouge at spring/summer shows like  Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent —and celebrities such as gossip girl Michelle Trachtenberg are following suit.

Rich Hair Color

It Brit Alexa Chung was one of the first to rock ombré strands. While she’s kept her dark roots, she’s since ditched her bleached ends, proving that brunettes can have fun in the sun too!

Red-Tinted Tresses

Another former ombré-lover, Drew Barrymore , has also changed her hair hue—to red! She’s not the only one: Rihanna, Scarlett Johansson, Mandy Moore, and Blake Lively have scarlet fever.

Purple-Rimmed Eyes

The purple haze from Etro’s spring/summer catwalk has reached the red carpet: Nicole Richie demonstrates lavender eye shadow’s lovely effect.

Straight Bangs

It seems counterintuitive for summer—don’t you want hair off your forehead?—but long, blunt bangs are seriously trendy. Besides bridesmaid Rose Byrne , stars like Olivia Wilde, Jessica Szohr, and Michelle Monaghan are also flaunting fringe.

Watermelon Pucker

Whether sheer or matte, fuchsia is summer’s go-to lipstick shade. And, as Emma Stone shows, the brighter the better! For more on this trend, check out the pink pouts at Diane von Furstenberg and Jil Sander.

Center-Parted Locks

A middle part is more casual and carefree than a side one. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be glamorous! Infuse center-split locks with a dose of volume à la Lea Michele for an unexpected twist. For more pointers, view the luxurious waves at Gianfranco Ferré and Emilio Pucci.

Emerald Eyes

Rihanna ‘s played-up peepers prove that, whether bright or muted, green shadow is worth wearing. It also happens to be hot for summer: the makeup made eyes pop at Oscar de la Renta and  Jason Wu.

Orange Lips

From soft peach to vibrant mango, orange-tinted pouts are ripe for the picking. Liv Tyler pays lip service to this trend, which was spotted at Marc by Marc Jacobs, Vena Cava, and Zac Posen.

Neon Eyelids

Electric strips of color decorated lash lines at Peter Som, Loewe, and Christian Dior—and apparently, Fergie approves!

Bronze Highlights

Don’t overdo it with your self-tanner or bronzer. Rather than an all-over tan, keep your complexion creamy and use brown-based makeup to merely highlight and accentuate. Rachel Bilson ‘s monochromatic eyelids, cheekbones, and lips exemplify this trend . Other examples: Blumarine and Dolce & Gabbana.
