Update your wardrobe for Spring/Summer 2012 in five steps

Be stylish this season!

Getting ready for Spring/Summer 2012 needn’t involve a complete wardrobe overhaul, so here are five simple steps on what to buy, what to ditch and what to keep for the coming months.

Era to embody: 1920s

Already one of the most talked about films of 2012 despite not being scheduled for release until December, fashionistas will be getting in the mood for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby during the spring and summer months. Gucci led the way at its Spring/Summer 2012 show with geometric print flapper dresses, while the Jazz Age was a key influence at the Etro show. Ralph Lauren was also enamored with the flapper style, with fringed skirts, elaborate beading on dresses, and cloche hats dominating its Spring/Summer 2012 presentation.

Image: Flapper dresses at Gucci

Image: Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2012 runway show featured 1920s-inspired items such as cloche hats.

Motif to embrace: floral

There are certain motifs we know will re-emerge season after season (nautical, lace, floral), and for Spring/Summer 2012 flowers are particularly prevalent. Colorful bloom prints were all over the catwalk, ranging from the iridescent creations adorned with multicolored blooms at Christopher Kane to the broderie anglaise Louis Vuitton frock sported by Lana Del Rey on the cover of UK Vogue’s March issue. Floral pieces from the Vuitton collection have also been seen on covers including British Elle (by Alexa Chung) to Vogue Japan (by Kate Moss). For the coming months, Paul Smith is offering cropped eafloral blazers, Diane von Furstenberg leaf-print pants, while 7 For All Mankind is offering floral print denim and Uniqlo has teamed up with English fashion and lifestyle brand Laura Ashley for a Spring 2012 collection comprising floral prints, T-shirts, stoles, and tunics.

Item to keep from Fall/Winter 11/12: anything leather

One of the biggest revelations to emerge from the Spring/Summer 2012 shows was that leather is no longer the reserve of the winter months — with labels including Hermès, Céline, Balmain and Margiela all championing the material in its various forms. Winter’s leather shorts minus tights and teamed with a sheer blouse makes for an on-trend Spring/Summer 2012 look à la 3.1 Phillip Lim. However, if you do want to invest in something new in the material, lighter tones and minimalist cuts provide a far less wintery aesthetic — Topshop has a variety of neon colored leather jackets for Spring/Summer 2012.

Item to revive from Spring/Summer 2011: the pleated skirt

The influence of ballet thriller Black Swan on the fashion world for Spring/Summer 2011 saw an array of balletic silhouettes dominating the catwalk, and fashionistas who invested in the ubiquitous pleated skirt will be glad to know it’s back for another season. This style ruled the runways at Spring/Summer 2012 shows including Chloé, Etro and Erdem, and can be easily updated for the coming months. For example, combining with a crop top (big news at Spring/Summer 2012 presentations including Versace/D&G and Alexander Wang) will offer an edgier take on the style. Meanwhile, high street retailers including H&M have their own take on the trend, with pleated pencil skirts among the highlights for the coming months.

Items to swap: forget skinny slacks, go wide leg

Since their re-emergence in the early 2000s, slimline slacks have become a wardrobe staple and despite the palazzo pant’s brief moment in the spotlight for Spring/Summer 2011, wide leg trousers have been left in the sidelines. But this is all about to change for Spring/Summer 2012, after labels ranging from Nina Ricci to L.A.M.B. and Roksanda Illincic went for slouchy, ultra wide trousers — many with a high waist. The look has taken to the high street too, from retailers such as Maje to more mass-market brands including H&M picking up on the trend for Spring/Summer 2012. This look works best pared down with a simple T-shirt and ballerina shoes. Petite ladies should add wedges to avoid being swamped by all the excess material.

Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Hairstyle Trend – BRAIDs

There is nothing more practical, romantic and easy-to-do than all kinds of braided hairstyles. Many designers are likely to agree with this statement having opted for various kinds of braids to complement their fashion shows. Be creative and add your own details in the looks fashion gurus have already offered. Opt for the simple braided hairstyle as seen at Lanvin or Carlos Miele and complement it with fashionable hair accessory. Or go for a twin braids with parting in the middle a la Y3. Besides, milkmaid braids and side-swept braided hairstyles are also making a comeback for Fall/Winter 2011-2012.

Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Hairstyle Trend – UPDOs

Alongside with the braided hair looks Fall/Winter fashion shows were all about various kinds of updo. Everything from sleek ballerina buns and voguish twists to messy top knots was spotted at the catwalks of Fall/Winter 2011-2012 fashion shows. Thus if you want to get feminine look, updo is exactly what you need. Opt for deep-side swept hairstyle a la Chanel or Sonya Rykiel if you are a fan of Old Hollywood Glamour. Or go for hairstyle seen at Michael Kors and Dolce & Gabbana for more casual look.

Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Hairstyle Trend – BANG

We’ve already told you that bang has made a strong comeback in 2011. The same goes to Fall/Winter 2011-2012 season and catwalks studded with fringed hairstyles are the additional confirmation to it.

Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Hairstyle Trend – CENTER PARTING

Well, Fall/Winter 2011-2012 runways were all over filled with an array of stylish and simple loose center parting hair looks.  Chloe and Versace, Alexander Wang and Anna Sui are only some of the designers who have opted for this casual hairstyle drawing the line in the middle. Well, what can look more lady-like and elegant than loose glossy and healthy long tresses? Moreover center parting makes woman’s face look thinner.

Fall/Winter 2011-2012 Hairstyle Trend – SHORT HAIR

Alongside with the long and feminine hairstyles short pixie cuts are also ‘in’! Draw inspiration on how to style your short locks from the best looks by Rag & Bone, Lanvin, and Giambattista Valli.

The Top Resort 2012 Trends

With so many newbies (Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra) joining established Cruise veterans (Michael Kors, Chanel), the number of designers presenting Resort collections this year topped out at nearly 200. That’s a pretty hefty number — one that pushes Resort from a mere rest stop between two big seasons to a definitive moment all on its own. It also means more outfits than ever for whatever holiday-fêting, jet-setting, beach-lounging, city-cruising adventure one has in mind. Here’s a look at some of the most dominant themes to emerge during the biggest Resort season yet.

New York City’s Spring 2012 Fashion Week

Neon
Peter Som
The color-blocking trend gets a fun, fresh facelift with Peter Som’s latest collection of high-voltage neons against ’60s-style silhouettes.

Neon
Jason Wu
We’d love to see First Lady Michelle Obama rock this hot yellow number, a sharp twist from the designer who’s known for offering a timeless, highly refined red carpet look. This season, he took inspiration from a graffiti artist, and the added edge is one of his boldest moves yet.

Neon
Rag & Bone
Electric hues are nothing new to David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, but the bright turquoises and oranges popped in some seriously exciting combinations on the runway.

Neon
Rodarte
Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy were inspired by Vincent van Gogh with this season’s color palette, and although we see evidence of the the post-impressionist painter’s brush strokes, we don’t recall him using anything quite as shocking as this lime green ruched top and pencil skirt in, say, Starry Night.

Neon
Ruffian
It was hard to know just where to look when this look came down the runway. The shock of yellow against the blue and green skirt was graphic color blocking at its most extreme.
Neon
Nanette Lepore
If there was any question about neon being the upcoming color family of choice, Nanette Lepore’s collection quieted all queries. From the ultraviolet lipstick to the brighter-than-brightly crafted handbags, every look was truly spellblinding.
Art Deco Graphics

Lacoste
In his first showing for the brand, Felipe Oliveira Baptista played with lines and even made us try to follow the maze of this chic shift dress.
Art Deco Graphics

Carolina Herrera
When she wasn’t affixing adorable sparrow prints to dresses, Carolina Herrera was playing with geometry. We love how the black, taupe, and white graphics on this knit top evoke the Chrysler Building!
Art Deco Graphics

Alexander Wang
Some of his dresses had a literal stadium seating chart as the focal print, but we much preferred this more abstract-yet-linear take. The corners and edges made a baggy top feel sharp and tailored.
Art Deco Graphics

Milly
Michelle Smith offered up a lesson in geometry with her latest collection for the brand. The vibrant linear prints and clean shapes — not to mention the adorable retro neck scarf — made us more than happy for the crash course.
Pajamas

ADAM
Going to sleep never looked so stylish as it does in Adam Lippes’ show, where PJ-style pants and tops reigned. This look’s polka-dot (another trend that has legs through at least another few seasons) print did the trick, too.
Pajamas

Richard Chai Love
Although Richard Chai played up pajama dressing this go-around, there was nothing overly slouchy about these silk rose printed pants.
Pajamas

Luca Luca
Raul Melgoza demonstrated a more relaxed mood on this season’s runway, but even his loungewear-inspired looks — teal-and-blue striped pants under a robe blazer with a matching knotted headscarf — still showed off his focus on expert tailoring.
Pajamas

Betsey Johnson
Sure, not many of the looks on the cartwheeling designer’s runway are really appropriate outside the bedroom, this burlesque-inspired floral onesie is one we’d love to wear exclusively when hitting the sheets.
Athletic Chic

Alexander Wang
Sure, most of Alexander Wang’s collections are all about tough, urban street wear, but this one really honed in on the motocross moment in particular. Aside from actual motorcycle helmets and laser-cut mesh layering, this body-con tracksuit made us all want to hit the gym in style.
Athletic Chic

Marc by Marc Jacobs
You can’t get much sportier than with this look from Marc Jacob’s more affordable collection. Although all the moving pieces on their own aren’t especially remarkable, when they come together, it’s street chic at its finest. And those shoes! We love a good pair of color-blocked kicks.
Athletic Chic

Victoria Beckham
Posh Spice has gone a wee bit sportier with her first official runway show. All about utility, the most noticeable embellishment were the sturdy nylon straps fastened with durable D-rings.
Athletic Chic

Rag & Bone
There’s something intriguing about the dangling straps from this mullet skirt — short in front and long in back — and we suspect that there’s some hidden utility to change the fabric’s height. Either way, having it paired with an ultra-white crisp tee makes it all the more striking.
Athletic Chic

Nicole Miller
Nicole Miller toughened up the also-emerging neon trend with hyperactive prints and loads of neoprene that evoked a real skater-girl vibe, which was happily exactly what the designer was going for.
Diaphanous Whites

Kimberly Ovitz
The up-and-coming designer’s latest collection was predominantly a medley of ethereal whites — all loosely pieced together and draped.
Diaphanous Whites

Doo.Ri
Doo-Ri Chang is above all a master draper, and with this look, she managed to offer the structure of a crisp white button-down with the unexpected flow of a pseudo-sarong.
Diaphanous Whites

Yigal Azrouël
Mostly prim and proper with this long-sleeved, floor-length white shirt-dress, the designer shows off a hint of sex appeal with an above-the-knee slit.
Diaphanous Whites

The Row
Despite the primarily white palette, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen snuck in barely-there mint with this mix of separates that seem to float through the air.
Diaphanous Whites

Band of Outsiders
This floor-dusting tiered frock — with its chic pastoral feel — from Scott Sternberg’s womenswear collection exuded a sweet softness.
Graphic Florals

Prabal Gurung
Floral prints are rapidly becoming a trend this season — but not just any floral. With a little digital manipulation, Prabal Gurung takes a Magic Eye approach to pretty petals and turns them into something out of a sci-fi fantasy. So complex and fascinating you can get lost in them for hours.
Graphic Florals

Cynthia Rowley
There were no shrinking violets at Rowley’s spring show. What might otherwise be an overly girly (Lisa Frank-inspired, perhaps?) flower pattern, got an edgy twist when juxtaposed against metallic gold and black leather.
Graphic Florals

Altuzarra
Joseph Altuzarra has gone Hawaiian with his street wear this season. Although he offered up the print in a head-to-toe vest-and-pants ensemble, we much prefer the floral panel on an edgy leather LWD.
Graphic Florals

Lela Rose
We love the juxtaposition of oversized neon flowers with the smoky, blackened backdrop of this skirt, so it’s no wonder we found out the designer was inspired by a visit to a Las Vegas graveyard for old neon signs.
Crop Tops

Preen
Ladies better hit the gym this season! It’s all about the abs for some designers, including Preen’s Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton, who strutted this midriff-baring black-and-white floral top down the runway.
Crop Tops

Ohne Titel
Flora Gill and Alexa Adams know how to exude sex appeal with just a hint of skin. This striped and cropped sweater has a sophisticated, asymmetrical feel.
Crop Tops

Proenza Schouler
Don’t let the long sleeves and bodysuit fool you. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have created quite the conservative crop with this number. Plus, they are about to have a new it-bag on their hands with this old-school camera-bag-inspired purse. We can see it on Tavi Gevinson and Julia Frakes already.
Crop Tops

Oscar de la Renta
Who knew crop tops could sub in for chic evening wear? Even if it wasn’t exposing some serious stomach, the loosely crocheted silver-thread sweater at Oscar’s show revealed skin all on its own.
Black on Yellow

Monique Lhuillier
Almost more difficult than red and green with Christmas, it’s nearly impossible to put these two colors together and not make the model look like a giant bumble bee. And yet the evening gown maker adds black lace to a cadmium yellow dress effortlessly.
Black on Yellow

Nicole Miller
Anyone looking for added edge most definitely found it in spades with this Nicole Miller scuba dress, which had black leather cut-outs affixed atop bright yellow trim.
Black on Yellow

Derek Lam
This more subtle take on the color combination is at once vibrant and conservative. Perfect for day to night!
Black on Yellow

Yigal Azrouël
Yigal Azrouël combines black and yellow in a series of darling georgette prints, like this top tucked into the hottest of black hot pants.
Black on Yellow

Carolina Herrera
The designer attempted this color combination with a few looks from her latest collection, but the most noticeable pairing was this embroidered sheer overlay with a simple yellow dress.
Black on Yellow

Oscar de la Renta
The very first look on the OdlR runway was pretty much a showstopper: a mustard yellow silk taffeta ball gown topped with a sheer black floral lace top.
Polka Dots

Suno
For a refreshing take on a classic trend, Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty showed off a painterly style of black-on-white polka dots in their very first runway show.
Polka Dots

ADAM
It’s not just the ultra-femme silhouette of this frock we love, but the playful spots that are at once classic and youthful. Perfectly refreshing!
Polka Dots

Luca Luca
For a more adult take on dots, Raul Melgoza created a top with a cascading effect of multicolored jewel-tone spots.
Polka Dots

Tory Burch
There’s something very Chanel about this three-dimensional take on spotted prints at Tory Burch’s first runway show after nearly a decade of presentations.
Tangerine

Vivienne Tam
With most runway shows and presentations debuting one acid hue after another, the deep red-orange of Vivienne Tam’s chic pantsuit is a top option for those who still want to add a little color to their wardrobe.
Tangerine

Charlotte Ronson
Up until the final handful of looks, the young designer stuck to a quiet color scheme with her collection. But the last four looks all burst forward — from a mere ombré effect to full-on saturation — with striking pops of orange.
Tangerine

Jill Stuart
Palm trees were a definite, if not literal, inspiration of Jill Stuart’s latest collection, and it got play in this sweet coral-and-cream dress.
Tangerine

Christian Siriano
The Project Runway alum’s flair for drama was in full force, but we tend to prefer his more understated — if you can even call it that! — pairings of T-shirts and skirts. The one exception? The palette behind this striped-top-and-tulle-skirt number.
Tangerine

Jenny Packham
Even with the thigh-high slit, we can totally see Kate Middleton — the Duchess of Cambridge is an avid fan of the London-based designer — rocking this beautifully draped one-shoulder gown to a benefit with her Prince Charming.
Peplum Accents

Vera Wang
The designer was all about peplums this season, but if her clientele isn’t interested, not to worry: They’re detachable. Still, their swirling, psychedelic prints give the perfect pop to all-white ensembles. Perhaps they’ll bring new life to some of Vera’s wedding gowns!
Peplum Accents

Thakoon
The amazingly out-there hair of the model’s at Thakoon’s runway show almost stole the show away from this edgy look, which combines the feminine frills of a peplum top with the masculine touch of bermuda shorts.
Peplum Accents

Jason Wu
Jason Wu’s fabric choice for this pink peplum skirt was impeccable. Watching it sashay with every step turned it into an instant must-have.
Peplum Accents

Cushnie et Ochs
A fashion show that played off a very literal housewives theme (there was a white picket fence at the start of the runway!) ended up delivering looks that anyone — desperate or not — would want. Case in point: This leather peplum jacket and cigarette pants.

The Best of NYFW Spring/Summer 2012

The Best of NYFW Spring/Summer 2012

NEW YORK – FTV presents a review of New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012 featuring urban chic meets feminine designs that are perfect for the hip and stylish in NYC and across America. Featuring top American models like Arizona Muse and Karlie Kloss as well as a bevy of beauties from around the world, this season was one not to miss and now FTV has the recap just for you.

We begin with the vibrant, eye-popping and girly Betsey Johnson collection, which focused on curvy sexy appeal and featured Betsey’s daughter Lulu. At the BCBG Max Azria show, the girls model 1920s pieces with a sporty athleticism, according to Hairstylist Neil Moody who sleeked their hair back to match. The models shined in form fitting metallic silver and gold bandage dresses at Herve Leger by Max Azria, where gladiator girl met Greek goddess and warrior princess. Alexander Wang’s mesh and motorcross collection was fit for a motorcycle queen who likes urban florals. Backstage at Diane von Furstenberg, Hairstylist Orlando Pita shows us the French twist hairdo at DVF with the help of model Caroline Brasch Nielsen.

We also watch the makeup artists put light green eyeshadow on lovely Arizona Muse. DVF says her show should be called “Beginnings” because it’s about hope, light, and optimism. It’s light and colorful and full of florals and other patterns. Refined Old Hollywood glamour in dresses and gowns comes back to life at Zac Posen where Canadian model Coco Rocha opened the collection. Beyonce and Kim Kardashian were A-list guests at Vera Wang and for good reason. The collection was a white wonderland of bubble skirts, sheer tops, corsets, and even a little bride style followed by cool graphic prints and neon, mint green, and pink looks. Tommy Hilfiger’s preppy paradise was inspired by pop art and it showed, but with signature Tommy finesse.

Another star-studded front row was Rodarte, which included Taylor Swift and the Fanning sisters–for good reason. The collection was youthful, vibrant, elegant, but fun. Prabal Gurung took NYFW by storm with his digital print-infused purple and mint green collection that included models like Karlie Kloss and excited front row guests like Nicki Minaj. Another youthful, but vibrant collection included Marc by Marc Jacobs, which was more sporty and casual luxe than ladylike, but still made that signature MJ imprint.

Donna Karan showcased the modern woman in jungle and safari style prints. We don’t expect anything less from Carolina Herrera’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection, which was all lady, albeit with a Spring vibe of floral and yellow, white, green, red, and silver. Custo Barcelona got the crowd going (as usual) with 80 looks with vibrant colors, sleek 3D designs that popped out on the garment, and graphic prints galore. Like Donna Karan, Michael Kors’ collection also had that African safari vibe with brown, burnt orange, leopard print, zebra print, and reds.

Appearance: Leslie, Lulu Johnson, Betsey Johnson, Kaitlin Aas, Neil Moody (Hairstylist), Caroline Brasch Nielsen, Juju Ivanyuk, Louise Roe, Jordana Brewster, Jessica White, Iris Egbers, Ruby Aldridge, Zuzanna Bijoch, Daga Ziober, Mirte Maas, Kate King, Emily Baker, Fei Fei Sun, Jacquelyn Jablonski, Max Azria, Lyubov Azria, Ginta Lapina, Melissa Tammerijn, Oona Chanel, Julia Nobis, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Monika “Jac” Jagaciak, Magdalena Frackowiak, Karmen Pedaru, Alexander Wang, Joan Smalls, Arizona Muse, Diane von Furstenberg, Leslie, Aymeline Valade, Saskia de Brauw, Grace Bol, Josephine Skriver, Suzie Bird, Coco Rocha, Alla Kostromicheva, Daiane Conterato, Zac Posen, Daphne Groeneveld, Jourdan Dunn, Karlie Kloss, Lindsey Wixson, Anna Selezneva, Prabal Gurung, Maud Welzen, Hailey Clauson, Marc Jacobs, Bette Franke, Donna Karan, Carolina Herrera, Custo Dalmau, Malu Bortolini, Alana Zimmer

Women’s tuxedo: fashion trend

The women’s tuxedo has been blurring the gender divide for years. Some call it an evening gown alternative, while others have tagged it as sophisticated glamour. Thanks to Yves Saint Laurent, who gave birth to le smoking in the 1960s, this androgynous ensemble has now become a womenswear classic and very much a wardrobe staple. But not one that is without the potential for reinterpretation.

The women’s tuxedo trend trumpet last blew out in 2008 when we saw a fountain of celebrities donning the look. Now, with 2012 on the horizon, we’re seeing the trend make a flashing comeback with a whole lot of mischief, seduction and femininity – but this time it’s different. It has evolved.

Women’s tuxedo for fall 2011 & 2012

We’ve all seen Helmut Newton‘s iconic image of YSL’s Le Smoking: a model with slicked-back hair, cigarette clutched casually in hand, becomes a statuesque, androgonous fixture on a Parisian street. The whole look is pristinely tailored; the pants are high in the waist and wide in the leg, but the blouse underneath the jacket is soft and finished at the neck by a bow. It’s the epitome of feminine-meets-masculine, and it’s exactly where the women’s tuxedo trend has returned to in 2011 / 2012.

When we last saw the tuxedo as a full-force trend back in 2008 it was a powerful statement that kept mostly to the glaringly sexy side with skinny cuts, tight fits and plenty of high-sheen satin. Since then, men’s tailoring has relaxed and so too has women’s. Like Le Smoking, the women’s tuxedo is once again about that effortless androgyny that’s stitched up in immaculately tailored yet lightly relaxed pieces, minimalist silhouettes, and that all important hint of 1970s glamour.

So what does that mean exactly?

It means you’re best off leaving behind these attributes from 2008:

  • Women’s tuxedo jackets with pointed or puffy accentuated shoulders.
  • Skimpy tux-inspired outfits that look like they could belong in the costume section of a lingerie store.
  • Overly glamorous head-to-toe tuxedo looks that involve heels, bow-ties, and top hats all at once.
  • Satin ruffle blouses (opt instead for cotton, lightweight silks or sheer fabrics).

Instead, for 2011 and into 2012:

  • Take cues from the 1970s with wide, peaked lapels.
  • Don’t just stick to traditional black; while 2008?s skinny jeans and a black dinner jacket combo can be updated for today, there are also other more interesting ways to stand out in the trend.
  • For a different take there’s also the option of embellished, sparkling women’s tuxedo jackets or pants that scream 70s glam rock; or the ultra-luxurious all-over velvet tuxedo a la Tom Ford.

For more ideas of how to wear the trend in 2011 / 2012 read on to the sections below.

The tuxedo for spring / summer 2011

For those fashionisers in the southern hemisphere yet to experience spring / summer 2011, don’t fear: even though wearing heavy winter fabric seems unimaginable for sultry summer months, there’s still plenty of scope for this trend to seep through. All it needs is clever styling, like some serious blocks of colours and light, clingy fabrics. Pair a women’s tuxedo jacket with well-fitted shorts or a body-hugging skirt to avow a sophisticated summer look. Another perfect option is a full white dinner suit in a relaxed summer cut.

Complimentary trends

Don’t be surprised if you see the women’s tuxedo hanging out with complimentary trend buddies like plunging necklines, sheer fabrics, and even the year’s revival of flared pants. Relaxed and effortless it may be, but that doesn’t mean sexiness has to go out the window: an open neck or sheer shirt are the perfect ways to add a dash of sex appeal, while a slim-cut flare over a high heel adds a different type of seductiveness.

Alternatively a wide leg pant, either a tuxedo pant or a tailored pant paired with a tuxedo jacket, can lean either to the 70s or the 1940s, while a slouchy pant cut can offer a hint of tomboy cool.

How to wear the tuxedo trend in 2011/2012

This autumn / winter, the easiest way recreate this look in your own wardrobe is by playing with it. Here are our tips on how to master the tuxedo trend:

  • Investing in a tuxedo shirt is a great way to create the ‘tuxedo’ effect even when worn without a jacket.
  • If you want to stand out, stay clear from the obvious interpretation and hunt for pieces in different fabrics like, tweed, cashmere, satin, wool, silk and velvet.
  • Another way to stand out is by way of pants that sport a contrast stripe or a trim down each leg. Alternatively pants with wide legs and a cummerbund work the look perfectly, and keep the statement below your waist.

  • For uniformity, swear by one colour from neck down and it doesn’t have to be strictly black or white.
  • To stay on the masculine side of the fence, accessorize the look with a bow tie, chiffon neck tie, or suspenders.

  • Brave the plunging neckline and go shirtless underneath. Instant sexiness guaranteed!
  • Flirt with the options of an underneath shirt – a sleeveless sheer chiffon top or a lacy silk blouse.
  • Embrace the 70s trend and flaunt high waisted flare-leg pants, paired with a structured dinner jacket.
  • There are no real boundaries when determining the length of the tuxedo jacket, other than what best flatters your height and figure. It can either end at the waist or go all the way down to the knees.
  • Leather brogues worn with cropped pants and a double-breasted dinner jacket can garner a successful attempt at androgyny.
  • Beauty wise, contrast with bold lips and nails; berry, coral and pink are on-trend. Keep the hair simple in an up-do with a centre-part – try a chignon or topknot.
