Hollywood’s 25 most powerful stylists

The Hollywood Reporter’s 25 most powerful stylists and some of their main clients:

(Relaxnews) – After stars including Jessica Chastain and Michelle Williams topped best dressed lists during awards ceremony season, the women behind their looks rate highly in an annual ranking by US publication The Hollywood Reporter (THR) of the industry’s 25 most powerful stylists –which this year excludes fashion mogul Rachel Zoe.

The latter wore red Louis Vuitton to the Academy Awards last month and came second in a Twitter best dressed list, according to data based on tweets sent regarding the awards ceremony with the hashtag #BESTDRESSED. Meanwhile, Emma Stone, who impressed at the Oscars in a bow-detail Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown, is styled by Petra Flannery — who takes third place in THR’s compilation. Last year Rachel Zoe, who gained attention in the early 2000s due to her work with the likes of Mischa Barton, Nicole Richie and Keira Knightley, topped THR’s most powerful stylist list. This year Zoe doesn’t feature on the rundown, although this exclusion is explained in an article by THR’s Shirley Halperin.
“Because her success has been so beyond what anyone thought a stylist could achieve, THR decided to recuse her from this year’s list,” wrote Halperin of the stylist who has become a television star and boasts her own multimillion-dollar fashion empire.
The ladies on this year’s list are breaking into the design world too though — Young last year teamed up with designer Lynne Hiriak for the knitwear line Cardigan by Kate Young and Leslie Fremar created a capsule line of basics for Fruit of the Loom.

Jennifer Lopez 2011 Hair Color

The secret to a beautiful hair color is complementing the skin tone. Jennifer Lopez’s color was created by using an all-over caramel blonde shade, then slices of golden blonde were added to break up the block color and add some detail and dimension to the look. The key to the hairstyle is adding texture, glossiness and definition to the lengths.

Frankie Sandford 2011 Short Crop

Frankie from The Saturdays shows that even short crops can be versatile and feminine. If you want to stand out from the crowd, this modern short haircut could be the style for you! Her hair has been cut with a bob-like shape on one side, while the other is close cropped for a modern edge. The side-sweeping long layers are styled for volume and texture, framing her oval face shape beautifully.

Halle Berry 2011 Pixie Haircut

The sharply cropped pixie worn by Halle Berry is ideal for anyone who likes ultra-close short hairstyles. Short layers practically style themselves, just add gel or wax to damp strands and push hair into place with fingers. To switch styles up, experiment with products that will yield new textural effects.

Jennifer Aniston 2011 Bob Haircut

Jennifer Aniston is one of the biggest icons in the hair world. From the famous Rachel cut, to her dimensional blonette hair color, Jennifer has done it again and went for the chop that has set the trend for the hottest length right now: the midi! Cut with a blunt and strong line makes her bob stand out, showcasing her summery highlights.

Cheryl Cole 2011 Sexy Blowout

Cheryl Coles glamorous volume and loose, glossy waves have become her style staple – one of the most requested hairstyles at hair salons. Cheryl’s sexy blowout is the ultimate sex kitten look. To style, work volumizing mousse into damp locks, blowout hair for volume and add waves with hot rollers or a curling iron.

Rihanna 2011 Red Hair Color

Bold, glamorous and vibrant, fiery red hair color has made a glorious comeback in 2011, thanks to pop princess Rihanna. Step into her footsteps and heat things up with a vibrant red shade, but make sure the color won’t clash with your skin tone, making your look washed-out. To prevent color from fading, always condition to close the cuticle down and finish with a quick blast of cold water down the lengths.

These are people you have to gear up to go in and talk to, because they shout! But as a mom, you know how to get what you need from this kind of person. You don’t take it personally, or go there yourself when they spin out. No matter how corporate it gets, it’s still the same valuable skill set: keeping order, keeping people organized, keeping people motivated. And stopping people from pulling each other’s hair out!”

Mo’Nique

“Fifteen years’ difference, that’s when I realized God had a sense of humor.” Mo’Nique told Oprah, “When Shalon was born, I was so much younger. I was hustling. I was out there trying to make it happen. So I was quick to spank his behind. Like: ‘Get down. Don’t do that. Put that back.’”

Fashion Tips for Women Over 40

Aging is a natural process which eventually affects all of us, but that doesn’t mean one mustn’t age gracefully. Find out how to dress fashionably after 40 so you can look as gorgeous as always.

Dressing age appropriate is very important for yourself as well as your social status. Good fashion sense has no age limits but certain clothes are created to match especially certain ages. Being over 40 doesn’t mean that you can’t dress with style in order to look appropriate but still sexy and gorgeous. Women are beautiful at any age and fashion is something that can accentuate the beauty.

Women, as they start to pass a certain age start to lose interest in the way they look, they start underestimating themselves, they lose their confidence and style. This is a mistake, which all women should avoid. Beauty doesn’t keep track of age, it only keeps track of how a person feels, acts and shows herself. Beauty, femininity and style are qualities which no woman has to lose or give up. All you need to do is adapt and keep yourself fashionable.

Fashion designers have always made sure to create outfits to fit different age groups. Some outfits are destined for women in their 20′s some for women in their 30′s and so on. As women age their fashion style should change, going towards very stylish and elegant. It is like the more you have contact with fashion the more stylish and elegant you become.

Women over 40 tend to pass towards the classical but keep in mind that a little touch of modernism doesn’t hurt. I’m not referring to mini skirts but to the outfits that are timeless and ageless. Your body changes with age so changes need to be done.

Here are some tips to help you maintain your good taste in fashion so you will look gorgeous at any age:

  • Avoid wearing outfits that are too colorful because at a certain age wearing too many bold colors simply won’t do. It will make you look like you are trying to look young and you will only get the opposite effect.
  • Buy outfits which suite your body perfectly. Don’t try to hide your body but don’t try to look like you can wear the same jeans as a 20 year old because that will not look good. Wearing clothes that match your figure perfectly will help enhance your gorgeous body without looking trashy.
  • Follow the latest fashion trends and look for outfits and accessories which would suite your age. Designers create marvelous collections which could suite people at any age. All you need to do is find the outfits appropriate for you.
  • Avoid wearing outfits that don’t flatter your body. Don’t buy the same clothes as your children because for sure you will not look appropriate. Find cuts that offer your body the best advantages without revealing too much skin.
  • Check your favorite over 40 celebrity style. Celebrities have access to the best stylists so you can bet they are well dressed and age appropriate. Celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker, Oprah, Jennifer Aniston, Halle Berry, Demi Moore, Courtney Cox Arquette, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jennifer Tilly, Sharon Stone, etc.

Oscars 2011 Dress Trend: Sequin Gowns

Sequins galore at the 2011 Oscars as seen on Hailee Steinfeld, Hilary Swank, Mandy Moore, and Halle Berry.

It just wouldn’t be the Oscars without a little shimmer. Or in this year’s case, a lot.

Sequined gowns shone on the red carpet, giving the ceremony an effervescent shot of sparkle.

Ushering in a parade of glittering neutrals, Mandy Moore—opting for coral lips and a simple updo—wowed in a champagne-hued stardust embroidered Monique Lhuillier with three-quarter sleeves, an illusion neckline, and tulle skirt.

The sequins/bubbly-hue combo also proved popular with Halle Berry, whose strapless Marchesa sported a frothy ruffled train and plenty of twinkle.

Nominee Hailee Steinfeld opted for a more youthful take on the trend with her own Marchesa, a tea-length tulle number in the palest shade of pink. The full-skirted gown featured a more restrained spray of sequins on its sheer bodice.

Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank may pick up a trophy for Best Dressed thanks to her platinum Gucci gown. The strapless silhouette boasted an icy, sequin-accented bodice paired with a stunning feathered skirt.

Amy Adams and Penélope Cruz, meanwhile, both cranked up the color with shimmering creations from L’Wren Scott. While Adams was a total knockout in a cap-sleeve navy gown that recalled the night sky, Cruz impressed in a slinky bold red look.

With all this designer bling, who needs jewelry?

Celeb looks this summer (off the red carpet!)

What summer looks are the celebs wearing this summer 2011?

We admit it- we’re a tad bit bored of celebrities’ glamour looks on the red carpet and premiers. So this time, we investigate what summer make-up is to celebs when they’re allowed to cut some slack in the ‘i-need-to-look-like-a-porcelain-beauty’ pressure.

Pulled back bangs with a slight bouffant and rosy lips (not such a good idea with thick dark liner!).

    Celebs Hairstyles 2011

    Hilary Duff

Natalie Portman (29) at the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. This is a new tight bun. It has a cute big knot that suits her age and a tight structure that is appropriate at a very formal event. It may be too conservative for a prom.

Wendie Malick (60) starts the new year with a classic bob hairstyle which curls in sharply at the ends. In her naturally very dark brown hair she has lots of moderate highlights. The length is cut to mid-way between her chin and shoulders. It’s a very simple low-maintenance style for women over 40. It’s very flattering for her face.

Diane Warren (54) has a short haircut not unlike Liza Minnelli’s. It very dark if not actually black. But her bangs are fuller, more choppy and asymmetrical. The top profile is a little shorter than you might expect.

Carey Mulligan (25) has a new short hairstyle. It’s cute and sideswept or side-parted and has a full fringe. It falls below her ears but also wraps around them. That last design element won’t appeal to all women, but it does make this style more dimensional, dramatic, and free.

Carey last year looked like this:

Chantelle Houghton (27) at the UK premiere of Morning Glory. She is looking very glamorous with this pretty, slightly messy updo. Chantelle is a model with eyes and lips similar to Paris Hilton’s! She once said: “I look like Paris Hilton, not on purpose but it’s just the way it turned out.” A few days ago at another venue she had her hair down; she was wearing over-the-top hair extensions. This is a much better formal hairstyle. It is classy, not contrived, and makes her look more mature.

Rachel McAdams (32) has a light brown medium hairstyle with chunky layers. It is classically center-parted and a little flirty, but it may not be ideally balanced. The heavy layers at the side of her face have a length that is more common with long hairstyles. If they were a little shorter this would be perfect!

Nancy O’Dell (44) looks all of 28 in this new picture. The latest addition to Entertainment Tonight has beautiful long hair with gorgeous highlights. She typically stands out as much as the celebrities she covers. Her style above has some slightly 80s-inspired feminine shape, softness, and volume.

Tempestt Bledsoe (37) has a huge mid-length black hairstyle. It’s a daring bob-like ‘do which is almost as big as an afro on the sides. It would be better if the top was fuller in the middle to balance it out. As is it looks too flat at the crown. Tempestt is the African American celebrity who recently got a new gig as host of Clean House.

Jeannie Mai (32) hit the red carpet all glammed up at a recent event with a fun chignon and black fishnet veil like what you see at a funeral. Jeannie was previously a makeup artist at MAC Cosmetics. She is now a fashion critic and the host of “How Do I Look?” on the Style Network. It is one of the most popular makeover programs today.

Cameron Diaz (38) at the Green Hornet premiere with long soft waves. This has been her common look for ages. Does anyone miss her short hairstyles? It’s been a long time–about ten years–since she had cute crops. There’s nothing wrong with this style but she is definitely overdue for a makeover.

Michelle Williams (30) didn’t have to experience much change to get a trendy pixie, but she’s made her hair more interesting with a hot new light red color. Will 2011 be another year of pixies? It’s difficult to guess because last year some stars were letting their locks grow out while others were cutting it all off.

Jane Lynch (50) has a short haircut which is a little more dramatic than usual for the mature celebrity. It’s higher at the crown, has messier bangs, and it’s enhanced with many small flips. There are some signs more subtlely flippy haircuts are becoming a trend. But even if they aren’t becoming fashionable, the design feature works well on older women.

Julianne Hough (22) switched her haircolor back to blonde, which was a good decision. The brown and red really didn’t do much for the blue-eyed singer/dancer. Here she looks more natural with her long, thick hair, but she’s probably still using extensions for volume.

Gayle King (56) has a soft thick bob with medium brown color and muted copper highlights. It’s heavier than you would expect on the sides; a few layers there would make it less chunky and clunky. The long and broken casual fringe reaches almost down to her eyes; it provides contrast to everything else which is so thick and together. Her hair looks very healthy but the big flips are too extreme in context.

Kirsten Dunst (28) with a medium bob looks cute and pretty. The big formal barette is a nice touch. Her total look is youthful and simple, but the wide retro bob shape tends to make her head look larger. The small section that falls to the side of her forehead, however, adds elegance.

Jasika Nicole (31) has a cute short black hairstyle. It’s an afro in the making but her bangs could use a trim to clean up her hairline. Snip those extreme short curls and maybe a few on top around the profile to make it perfect. Isn’t it about time stylish afros made a comeback? The short crops of African American women in recent years are getting old fast.

Liza Lapira (29) has healthy long Asian hair with a wonderful sheen. But the style itself needs work. The top half from the crown to her chin is great; but the bottom is a hot mess. The ends are too chunky and they are next to some strands that are super thin and messy. They look like cheap extensions.

Chelsea Handler (35) is now a late-night comedienne but was once a model. Does she make a good hair model? This is a popular medium style but her roots need a touchup. The entire coloring actually needs to be redone. It’s blonde from the top to eye level and then light red to the ends. Her shirt color inadvertently draws attention to the irregular colors (because it’s so similar to the shade of blonde).

Joan Rivers (77) is back as the host of Fashion Police, so why is the “top cop” wearing a 2008 bob in 2011? Last year Carly Fiorina was “overheard” slamming Barbara Boxer for her bob which was “so yesterday.” Joan has a great chin-length cut, but it’s just not fashionable right now unless she’s decided to start a new trend and women are following her.

Jenna Ushkowitz (24) is the Korean American actress on a hit TV show. Her hair is hot! It is mostly all down but the part that is up adds some fun and flirty sass. The volume on this design is attractive. The “half-up” section helps make it seem thicker on top and more balanced with the bold long bottom sections.

Paris Hilton (29) may not be known exclusively for her elegance, but this red carpet chignon was just perfect. It was one of the stand-out formal hairstyles at the Golden Globes. The side view shows the lovely shape at the front and the pinned bun at the back. It’s great for a prom or wedding in 2011.

Savannah Van (17) is a happy teen singer who likes big hairstyles. This is actually one of her smaller ones. Her thick long blonde tresses are enhanced with a high-bling sparkly headband tucked under instead of over her hair. It’s a cute style statement.

Sandra Bullock (46) with heavy bangs. This is a major makeover! Since she became a celebrity Sandra has apparently never had bangs. (A review of earlier pictures of her didn’t reveal any.) It’s a little harder to recognize the popular actress, but is the hairstyle itself flattering? A poll on People magazine’s Style Watch web page leaves about 50% unconvinced. They want the old Sandra back. The problem here is the style suits much younger women–like teens! Very few ladies her age choose this cut. The harshness of the blunt bangs is compounded by the virtually jet black haircolor. Sandra does have some brown highlights but they are very subdued, barely noticeable, and there aren’t many of them. She isn’t going through a mid-life crisis, but she did get divorced last year, and that may have played a role in her wanting to do something completely different. Many women admit they change their hair after a breakup.

Demi Moore (48) with a big retro hairdo. It is reasonably neat and perhaps best classified as semi-formal, but it just seems a bit too heavy and lacking in shape. It needs to be tighter and rounder so it appears less like a helmet and more feminine. It could also use more symmetry so it looks more polished.

Malin Akerman (32) is a beautiful Swedish-Canadian actress with a simple but sexy blonde cut. Roots needs recoloring, but the length and shape are perfect. It works just as well as a casual style as it does at special event thanks to its understated wavy elegance. This photo was actually taken last year; she had the same thing recently but her cut and pic in 2010 was slightly better.

Jayma Mays (31) wearing a thick medium bob with half bangs. The layers are okay, but she would look better and more natural with more of the ends further towards the center. Here they draw too much focus to her long neck because of the volume, angle, and bluntness. Softer, freer tips are more feminine.

Carrie Underwood (27) is still about as popular for her hairstyles as her music. She’s also overtaken Kelly Clarkson as a young style icon for inspiration. Her Golden Globe choice in 2011 as shown above was formal enough for a bride. Although the loose pieces on both sides are a classical design, they are just a little too long. Carrie had a similar updo last year but without the tendrils. They can soften a very tight updo, but so can a smile.

Sinatta (42) has a head full of gorgeous black curls. You have to love the way they catch the light because of the sparkly black-and-white contrast. Her long hair has nearly too much volume but it does a lot for her. It’s dramatic yet tasteful. Hopefully this will become a trend among African American women. It may be time for the fashion pendulum to swing back from short to medium or long hairstyles.

Stacey Solomon (21) toned down her previous over-the-top hair design which made beauty news headlines. She used to have extremely big hair with much larger and blonder extensions. Stacey’s latest enhancements are closer to her natural haircolor, but could be darker still for the most flattering and polished finish.

Rachel G. Fox (14) has a long teen hairstyle with dark blonde highlights. It’s a good color choice, but a makeover to make it four to six inches shorter would be a nice improvement. Many teens are very reluctant to cut off much of their hair, but there is a clear proportional problem here for the diminutive starlet. You need to work with not only your face shape but also head size.

Laura Vandervoort (26) on the TV show V. This was in a scene between sweet long-haired Lisa (Laura) and the very short-haired brunette villain Anna (Morena Baccarin). The contrast between the two women’s personalities and their hairstyles could not have been more striking. The beauty of Laura’s sexy style is its perfect length as well as the mix of thick and thin sections. The few subtle layers don’t hurt, either. Her half bangs complete a fully casual look that’s modern, wavy, and cool. (Courtesy ABC)

Caroline Sunshine (15) with big curls. She is living up to her name with a sunny disposition and pretty golden blonde color. The warm shade goes nicely with her dark brown eyes. If you are a teenager who enjoys lots of volume, you might like the design of Caroline. It is quite easy and it gives you a fun, cute style. You’ll need a medium and/or large barrel curling iron.

Michelle LaFrance has heavy sideswept bangs that are broken in only one place. This is not unlike Nicole Richie’s look a few years ago that she had all the time. It’s stylish and feminine as well as simple and low maintenance. Because so much of the hairdo is neat, you have to watch the parting to make sure it doesn’t get too messy. Michelle’s is borderline.

Danneel Harris (31) in a recent photo with a mid-length formal design. It is easy to create and has a few pretty faux layers for extra drama. The thin sections she curled add a touch of evening elegance. She is wearing about three different colors including a few very thin slices of blonde. Danneel is a former Big Sexy Hair model.

Michelle Obama (47) at a health promotion event with a new short hairdo. The First Lady has shown a lot of diversity in her black hairstyles. She is unlike her much more conservative predecessor, Laura Bush, who chose one and stuck with it for eight years. Michelle’s ‘do is very dimensional thanks to the extra volume, flips, curls, and twists. (Courtesy CNN)

Frances Fisher (58) with long red hair. Her style could hardly be simpler, but it’s shiny, healthy and very attractive. What a blowout! The ends look razored and Frances has perfectly transitioning color from the red base to a lighter shade. It catches the light and creates radiance. Risky length for a woman her age but she’s pulled it off brilliantly!

Tess Daly (41) with smoking hot hair. Wow! This looks like something Jessica Simpson or Gisele Bundchen would wear–or a woman half her age. Did the mature presenter pull it off? Yes! Very big waves without a fringe make a bold fashion statement–or a suggestion you’re open to a hair modeling contract.

Brie Larson (21) has a messy style with bangs. It may be too busy; it is curly, wavy, and twisty all at the same time–and it has an uneven fringe. But many teenagers will see it as an ideal design that is casual and cool. Brie has that just-got-out-of-bed look. The medium cut is very thick and wide, which means it’s best suited to any face shape besides round. Note that this look is risky if you don’t keep your color updated. Messy hair and bad haircolor could spell disaster.

Kelly Rowland (29) with a cool crop! How do you like her stylish pixie with long bangs at sharp angles? It’s basically a knockoff of the 2010 black hairstyles trend which was very short on one side. Kelly’s cut, however, is better than its similar predecessors. It looks more sophisticated, elegant, and professional. There are finely razored ends and a few subtle highlights which are widely dispersed. It’s perfect for work and doesn’t need to be adjusted for a night out on the town.

Esmee Denters (22) with an extremely funky updo. Her hair has a loosely curled fringe and looks very messy. What is the inspiration? Upon closer inspection it appears to be 1950s rockabilly meets 1960s bouffant and 1980s punk. Only an uninhibited recording artist could accept multiple-era hairstyling in a new updo this wild. Is it wearable for anyone else? Removing the big front curl could make it sexy; otherwise it’s merely a conversation topic.

Mo’Nique (43) has a fun hairdo. The popular celebrity is still making waves in the entertainment world and has the glamour to match her career. This medium hair style is bold and has lots of volume, but it’s a little too high and/or thick at the crown. With big curls you always need to make sure the proportions are balanced on the sides and top.

Emma Willis (34) with a simple short hairstyle. It’s an example of one option if you’re growing out a pixie. You should be able to do this easy one yourself in five minutes or less. Super low maintenance, it’s ideal for busy students and any pro on the go. No need to fuss: part and depart.

Lo Bosworth (24) with sexy wavy hair. It’s heavier on one side and just clears the eye. It’s not quite symmetrical; it’s forward on the left and back to the ear on the right. The look is basic but cute without being pretentious. Lo has a new book out and this picture was captured at her book signing.

Haley Reinhart (18) lights up a room with her 100-watt smile and glamorous curls. This is a great teen hairstyle especially for girls like her who are extroverts. The American Idol contestant impressed the judges and is going to Hollywood. Keep an eye out for this pretty rising star with the long piecy hair. (Courtesy Fox)

Hofit Golan has dramatic flips which recreate a 1970s vibe yet also make her hair layered half-way down. It’s kind of fun for the evening. Hofit’s tresses are different from most in the way they fall right at the corners of both eyes. Overall the shape is reasonably effective but her color needs a lot of work. She looks like Faith Hill, who is also lazy about her haircolor, and leaves her roots showing too often.

Cara Buono (36) also has a modern take on a retro hairstyle. The volume and shape are reminiscent of ladies’ looks in the 1960s to 1980s. It’s slightly raised at the crown and completely off the face. It is also blown out from the temple on the left and set with a lot of hairspray so it stands out two to three inches. Cara’s medium design is finished with some sweet curls at the ends. Definitely stylish and classy–and even flirty.

Emma Henry (15) was one of several very young teen contestants who made a splash recently on AI. The aspiring singer’s choice for her national debut was Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors.” But neither one of her dramatic hair colors is natural. Emma has a cool two-tone style that makes it appear as if she has platinum blonde on top and black underneath. The clever technique adds pop to existing layers (or creates faux ones). Her casual bangs are very heavy but also quite intriguing due to the alternating colors and spiky shape. (Courtesy Fox)

Zain Verjee (36) has an elegant short haircut. It is a cross between the hairstyles of Laura Bush and the late Princess Diana (her epic cut). The front photo doesn’t show the light feathering on part of the side. In the 80s they took that design element too far. Done in moderation, however, it adds subtle details which appeal to many women in their late 30s and early 40s (if not older, too). Zain’s hair is very thick and it would be better if it were layered. Now it seems a bit like a helmet. (Courtesy CNN)

Laurie Holden (27) looks like actress Sara Paxton. This new ‘do falls just past the top of her shoulders. Her lightly reddish blonde creation has feminine texture. There are a few soft waves on the sides and one large wave across her forehead. A slight improvement would be to fix that top part so it’s not broken up. Otherwise it’s a decent design that is flexible enough for the day and a semi-formal evening.

Madison Pettis (12) is a pre-teen girl who is a star of the future but has already been in show biz half her life. As you can see the lucky young lady is blessed with pretty hair. Madison, indeed, is one of very few actresses who is naturally curly–at least in a memorable way like Melina Kanakaredes. Here she has automatic texture and volume that most girls can only dream of having or get after lots of work.

Anne Sweeney (52) has a simple mid-length hairstyle. The multimillionaire media mogul is overdue for a trim of some kind. Her half bangs are already getting in her eye. The subtle and moderate highlights, however, look perfect. The multitonal mix includes very wide panels of brown contrasted with very thin slices of blonde. It is a rather dimensional style with sharp bends at her neck. Her cut is low-maintenance but it would be ideal if it were an inch or two shorter.

Stephanie Savage (43) looks stunning with her gorgeous haircolor. Dressing up the long locks of this middle-aged woman are two tantalizing shades: medium and light red. It’s one of the hottest combinations of the year so far. Her piecey waves are graduated to get thinner the closer they get to the ends. Smooth transitions expertly done for both shape and color like this make a lasting impression. If you love warm tones, consider this wonderful beauty.

Lea Michele (24) on the red carpet with maximum volume. Wow! That is quite the mane. The brunette power of a twenty something celebrity rarely gets this thick. It is borderline over the top–as in the excesses of the 80s–but she hasn’t quite crossed the line. (Lea has previously admitted using extensions and must have them here once again.) The mini fringe (one small section) from the parting is unexpected and interesting. It adds a youthful touch.

Irshad Manji (42) with what we could call “saw blade” bangs. Her short fringe has sharp points, and it appears the base of her “sideburns” is also pointed. It is virtually a pixie. She is likely in her early 40s, but this very short cut suits women about 21 years old and up. Just make sure you have the forehead to pull it off. (Courtesy CNN)

Jennifer Aniston (41) must have found the best deep conditioner, because she has hair as healthy as a teenager’s! This new picture reveals her favorite length and shape, which is quite basic and certainly classic. But Jennifer has fresh colors. There is a fabulous base shade of light brown and face-framing highlights in medium to dark blonde. It’s nice to see her do something a little different, and the color makeover with perfect roots is so flattering, isn’t it? A fine step up from 2010.

Emily Maynard (24) with partial braids. This girl from North Carolina is currently on The Bachelor. She is one of the most cute contestants and is expected to receive a marriage proposal soon. As you get older, complete braids may look silly, but one section only is a fun enhancement and hardly detracts from your true age. Hers start in the center and cover half her hairline. They are tightly tied to maintain her profile. They don’t scream for attention but make Emily more elegant and pretty. (Courtesy ABC)

Chloe Moretz (14) wearing a chin-length bob with big finger waves. She may not know it, but this teen girl has a very 1930s hairstyle. You may recall from old movies it was all the rage back then–although smaller waves were more common. Since the look hasn’t come back–perhaps the only exception being Liv Tyler a few years ago–it’s a daring choice for the young starlet. If you’re not used to or comfortable with lots of weight on one side, you might skip it. But it’s different and kind of adorable with the little flips. Beats a plain old straight bob, which can get boring very fast.

Dianna Agron (23) with an elegant updo. This female celeb has a very big chignon that could be improved. There is consistency with the front, top and back which are all slightly loose. That is all great, but the shape of the bun leaves a little to be desired. It seems somewhat out of balance. Dianna’a soft bangs fall beside and almost into her eyes; that is a feature you may either love or hate.

Lisa (thirtysomething) with a chin-length bob. She has lots of thick, small curls. The front needs a trim to remove the new bangs which have started to appear. But the volume is fine the way it is now. Wide bobs were fairly common in the 90s and women may be ready again to put them back in fashion. It’s definitely about time to break free from the tired obsession with straight bobs. (Courtesy CNN)

Dana Delany (54) with auburn haircolor. She is defying her age with both the color and length. Instead of short, Dana’s locks are quite long, and she is dark red rather than her natural brown. The radiant actress has long layers with finely razored ends. Her cut is straight and simple but also sexy. It is really just the most popular layered design on a different level. It was created with a higher-than-average level of professional skill and a less common hue. That’s a smart way to freshen up an old classic.

Jennifer Lopez (41) brings a lot of glamour to Americal Idol that we never received from Paula Abdul. She often has long hairstyles which are quite hot and new makeup that is sparkly or glossy. JLo, despite being a woman over 40, still digs the bling. Here Latina Lovely has amped up the volume with extreme extensions. She’d get an edge, however, by lightly teasing all parts of them so the piecey areas don’t stand out. They always make hair look fake, especially when there isn’t a perfect color match. They seem like highlights and you wonder why they start low down instead of near the crown. (Courtesy Fox)

Ashley Argota (18) is a lovely teenage girl with Filipino background. She has a beautiful smile and great curls. They are a little frizzy in the middle but otherwise very glam and age perfect. Her style is more casual than formal but you could pull it off at prom. It was her choice for her big Birthday bash.

Kayla (23) has lustrous long locks which are entirely bang-free and spiraling into control with ultra-thick curls. The gentle “S” shape from the parting across her hairline down the sides looks effortless and sexy. It’s in a wonderful neutral haircolor. The top half looks perfect but the bottom is simply too bulky. Note: extensions of this size and shape may not do your figure justice and, indeed, can make you look fatter.

Jane Fonda (73) is the queen of short flippy hairstyles. She always has more flips that any other female celebrity. That makes her high maintenance but also as attractive as much younger ladies. Although this is her standard style, Jane changed her color. She used to be blonde; now there’s a solid brown base and more subtle highlights. It is much more flattering. Other design features are a few short bangs and extra height. Overall it is elegantly messy, quite symmetrical, and somewhat flashy, too. Jane stands out in a crowd because of how rare this style is.

Maria Menounos (32) is still unbelievably single despite her warm personality and gorgeous hair. Consistent with the style preferences she’s had for many years, Maria’s locks are long and highlighted. She has a few thin blonde streaks and some light brown tones, too. Without bangs it is very simple, but it’s a clean and polished look that suits any occasion. Notice how you can easily create the appearance of layers with waves. (Courtesy NBC)

Kelly Osbourne (26) is a blunt blonde in more ways that one. She has a new gig as a fashion critic opposite Joan Rivers where she tells it like it is–praising and slamming evening dresses with her reasonable red carpet reviews. Even the high layers are very blunt and almost to the point of being distracting. The contrast between the finely razored ends and the harshly cut sections is daring and even jarring. The ever-present danger of blunt styles is they require extra attention because some people may think you cut your own hair.

Davetta Sherwood (27) as you might have guessed is a former model. This young African American woman is very pretty. Her mid-length black haircut is shiny and chunky. Davetta has styled and scrunched her tresses after adding some messy twists and mega curls. It’s sexy but the half bangs could be improved with softer edges where they start in the center. The dark color and bold contrast demand a gradual transition for optimal aesthetics–or no fringe.

Nicole Kidman (43) at the GRAMMY Awards with a fancy dress and hot hair. It’s wavy and wonderful. There’s nothing new about it except the golden reddish haircolor which is brightest at the front. As usual Nicole is one of the most feminine stars to grace the red carpet not only in the way she dresses but also how she carries herself. There may be a conservative fashion trend this year where we don’t see changes in cuts, just colors.

Bunmi Mojekwu (22) confidently punches out a fashion statement with two-tone hair drama. Her stick-straight tresses have two colors and two layers; dark red is made to appear layered above jet black. Bunmi has very long bangs which are slightly fragmented across her entire forehead. Inspired by the zebra? This intense idea susbtitutes red for white and in places the haircolors alternate with either thick or thin panels. This lowlights style is a trend but it’s not really mainstream yet. The popularity is among girls, especially teenagers, who need something very different and typically choose alternative hairstyles.

Monica (30) rivals screen siren Halle Berry with her beautifully clean complexion and black pixie hairstyle. Monica’s cute cut is a little more stylish and posh than Halle’s perfected coif thanks mostly to the highest section and its general shape. The ultra short bang in the middle adds flair next to the raised top which is moderately messy. Cool and pro at the same time but it’s best suited for women with average to small-sized foreheads.

Paula Adbul (48) can still pass for a woman in her 30s. Here she is showing off her new haircolors on Leno. The mature celebrity jazzed up the forever fashionable hairstyle that is quite possibly the #2 all-time most-requested design (long, graduated layers). The highlighting technique is also quite classical with respect to position (bright from the center on top). According to a running poll on this site, about 50% of women who are getting their color done in 2011 will, like Ms. Abdul, have bold highlights. That number is about the same as in 2010 and the previous five years, too. (Courtesy NBC)

Izabel Goulart (26) is a stunning Brazilian fashion model who has done some work for Victoria’s Secret. If you like wavy hairstyles, it doesn’t get much better than this Hispanic perfection. Notice how her dress colors and ruching are so cleverly coordinated. Everything is catching the light in a way that nearly sparkles. Such understated elegance from a woman her age hints she is mature beyond her years–or has a top-flight stylist. Many teens will love her long design and rate it five stars.

Ashley Herbert (26) at the SI shoot on The Bachelor with a beachy hairstyle. She is usually very neat and professional but broke out of her comfort zone with the cut of the Weekend Californian Surfer Girl. The disheveled look as if you’ve been out in the sun, surf, and sand all day appeals to those who spend most of their time outdoors. It’s cool with jeans and a T-shirt if your personality is ultra casual and you can appreciate messy hair that can make you appear as if you just got out of bed. Probably more men like it than women. Ashley is really hot with the ragged layers which have been whipped by the wind. Not bad for a dentist, huh?! (Courtesy ABC)

Angela Lindvall (30) is a veteran supermodel who has not just a pretty face but also fantastic hair. Her medium cut has some grouped layers that start to wrap around her chin similar to the Rachel Haircut or a bob. But she has pulled the opposite side over to her ear for an asymmetrical style that is cute and relaxed. Everything else is more or less centered.

Anne Drewa (33) has ultra fine layers and heavy sideswept bangs. She has the most beautiful shade of pale blonde; the consistency throughout makes it look natural. There is something about this hot medium hairstyle that is different. Is it the extra thickness? The ends are quite blunt. It is a very polished cut, but perhaps too much to the point where it’s a bit like a helmet. You can fix that if some parts are teased a little. Anne, who is an evening news anchor from British Columbia, Canada, may do a Peter Jennings and replace Diane Sawyer. Click plus sign above for 2x size photo. Her stated age is based on university graduation (2000). Apparently many people think she looks much younger than her age; it’s the most searched thing about her. It could be because of her haircolor. (Courtesy CTV)

Rebecca Hazelwood (28) has choppy bangs with long hair. It’s an easygoing style with attractive shine.

Janina Gavankar (27) has the lustrous black hair only Asian women are lucky enough to enjoy. She’s the best of the Indian and Dutch worlds. Her locks look graduated, getting wider. There may be too much contrast between the messy curls and the neat bulk (everywhere else). The style error could be due to extensions, which she really doesn’t need.

Haley Ramm (18) has a medium bob for teenagers. The popular cut has been around for decades; the modern element is the razored layers. They are subtle and sweet. It is an example of an unfussy option; it requires minimal daily maintenance. Haley has long bangs which are full and grouped; they bend a little instead of being stick straight. Bobs are risky if you have a pointed chin but at least hers isn’t short. She isn’t really a redhead, incidentally; the warm glow is from the lighting.

Serene Branson (31) with a very long bob hairstyle. Nowadays it’s fairly uncommon among reporters and celebrities despite being a classic. Although it’s a nice enough design and perfectly brushed, it’s not the most flattering on Serene. She has a long face and this cut simply makes it look longer. She has great hair but a better choice would be medium length or at least wider. She could also benefit from more texture, but this cut does make her appear younger. (Courtesy ABC)

Madison Leisle (11) is a child star and has a cute bob for kids. It’s shorter than chin length and has an off-center parting. It needs nothing but simple combing to fix every day. The popular beauty of the basic bob is the cut does almost all the work for you.

Halle Berry (44) has a messy pixie. The very short sides are neat but somewhat layered; whereas the top is filled with beachy personality. The roughed-up edges and multiple angles create a cool spot of organized chaos. This pixie has rugged flair worthy of a weekend warrior or outdoorsy girl. It’s a reintroduction of her earlier style but it’s so copied it’s now virtually iconic. Great option if you’re bored with your bob and want to go shorter.

Jennifer Aniston (42) has a new haircut and it’s a medium bob. Love Jen; not thrilled by the style. It isn’t very exciting. There are several current bobs and this version is the least creative of them all. It’s not as if we’ve never seen this before. It really isn’t new or original. How is this different from many what others already have and she herself had in 2001?

Reese Witherspoon (34) walked the red carpet in high style on Sunday night with a formal ponytail. Pulled back and raised, her blonde hair stood out–literally and figuratively–and helped the bubbly actress make a grand entrance.

Scarlett Johansson (26) has a new bob with lots of sass. How cute is that?! The charming picture of Scarlett clearly shows her creative texture, but it doesn’t reveal that it is heavily weighted to one side. This is a fun new hairstyle without bangs. It’s different in the way the bends are more like kinks than curls. Kids in the 80s had something like this. Teenagers and other women like her in their 20s can rock it today.

Cate Blanchett (41) with her latest short haircut. It is neat and stylish with a touch of finesse that many mature women can appreciate. The dimensional pizazz and clever integration of the heavy layers represent a fine example of elegant half bangs. Pale red and light blonde haircolors complete the sophisticated evening look of the talented thespian.

Hailee Steinfeld (14) looks totally adorable with her sweet updo. The shape is classical and classy. The default style of the front section is usually dull, but Hailee has enhanced it with a thin headband that is bright and slightly sparkly.

Sunrise Coigney (38) with a geometric bob. It is chin-length with unusually sharp corrners. The straightness stands out immediately; the blunt ends strike a harsh note. The clean lines are well-defined and virtually at right angles with a point on the jawline. It’s quite a masculine idea but the full fringe with blonde highlights softens it. The bright and thin streaks fan out evenly. Although it is undoubtedly simple it is somehow provocative. You definitely need the right personality to pull off this imposing and potentially intimidating cut. The tone is completely no nonsense; it suits a tough businesswoman. (Courtesy ABC)

Diane Kruger (34) shows us how to style thin hair into a wavy bob. It is a medium formal hairstyle which is loose and something of an updated or modified 1930s bob; but it’s mid-length instead of short. There is casual elegance but it’s almost too messy for this curious shape. If Diane’s design was made into a half updo that would solve the problem. It seems to make her look a little older, but it is piecey and feminine.

Elizabeth Houston made a guest appearance on Poker Stars. She was the most stunning loose canon and is the hottest poker player on TV. She would certainly give Evelyn Ng a run for her money. Her hair isn’t so bad, either! The blonde from Canada has long locks with special crimping. The distance between each ‘turn’ is greater than usual and makes everything more like a traditional wavy hairstyle, but it’s fresh and sexier. The uniqueness and consistency everywhere makes it memorable. It is a masterpiece and just looks as if it was created by a top professional. Elizabeth provides an ideal model for any lady who wants to make a splash at a posh event. (Courtesy PokerStars.Net)

Beau Garrett (28) has a shoulder-length hairdo with sideswept bangs which are heavy but pretty. Her texture is rich and messy in just the right way with the use of extensions.

Lara Spencer (40) has to talk about pop culture idols every day as an entertainment reporter–and look about as glam as them, too. Full-bodied and fabulous, Lara has layers that start at the mid point of her head. Her mane is sexy in an understated way but also very solid looking. There’s nothing really breaking up into pieces perhaps to keep it very neat and shiny. Nevertheless the blonde shade bounces light in impressive fashion and isn’t far off her skin tone. (Courtesy CBS)

Anna Faris (34) chopped off all her hair and is the new bobbed girl in town. She used to be long and wavy without bangs.

But now Anna is short and straight with a full fringe. That is modestly parted and this is the ultimate in simplicity, no question. But it’s always fun to see female celebrities after such a head-turning makeover. It’s certainly tougher for them to take the plunge with the whole world watching, but this is a safe change because it’s already been tried and tested by millions of women.

Teresa Palmer (25) takes a page from history with a braided updo. Wrapped up and retro, her stacked thing is rarely seen today; but she has old-world charm. You can pull off conservatively fashioned up hairstyles with confidence, and enjoy the prissy feeling that you may not find with plain updos.

Miley Cyrus (18) snatched Justin Bieber’s cut; maybe you can, too. It lacks the refined elegance of JB’s style in terms of fine feathering, and the bangs appear to have a piece missing, but overall it’s alright. If there’s any men’s hairstyle that could work on a girl, it’s Justin’s. That’s because there’s nothing harsh about the teen singer’s sig cut, nor definitively masculine. It’s soft and fine. Now, to the question of how it looks on Miley… certainly, it’s a radical departure from her high-mass extensions, which is a good thing. Does she have the right face shape for this? Yes. And, given her growing independence and wild ways, we should expect something unexpected with her tresses sooner or later instead of this skit-only creation. It might also help her shed her previous public image, but many teens aren’t daring enough to make the commitment and go this short after years at great lengths. (Courtesy SNL/NBC)

Ashthon Jones (24) from American Idol has notice-me pipes and really extreme hair. What would you call that? A faux afro? It’s fun and pretty plus it sparkles all over. That black girl knows how to turn up the volume.

Malin Akerman (32) lighting up the room. Great photo of the blonde actress! Is hair that is twice the length of your head (crown to chin) the ideal proportion? It is working very well for Malin. There is an attractive combination of sweet (waves beside her forehead) and sexy (those very big curls).

Cheryl Dent (30s) has a cute hairstyle with half bangs. It is “bobbish.” This is one way to “power up” a layered bob. On her right Cheryl has flips out at the mid-way point; then it curls at the ends. If you like free-spirit styles which are casually asymmetrical, this one is fun. She has a playful mix of red haircolor with blonde panels which are thin at the front and wider in the middle. It seems “summery” because of the busy shape, almost-messy texture, and light colors. She looks as if she’s been outside enjoying the sun.

Rebecca Gayheart (39) was curly for a very long time but has finally put her flat iron to good use. She went the traditional route to the most popular cut: the long and layered hairstyle. However, because of her relatively small head size Rebecca would be better advised to reduce it by at least four inches.

Katherine Moennig (33) has a short hairstyle that is edgy in both its cool cut and trendy color. Ombre is rarely successful, but this version works because of the layers. They break up the flatness and the extra texture also contributes to its success. Katherine’s layered shag is modern but not outrageous since it is asymmetrical and has two tones which are low-contrast. It can look playful on the right woman because it’s a borderline rock star style.

J-Lyn is an African American singer who now sports an irregular hairdo. See the perks of inventive layering and highlighting? A path of blonde dashes marks the perimeter minus an inch or two. Her special fringe sweeps and dips with added weight making the lowest point in the center. The wow factor gets an additional boost with blonde extensions.

Judith Godreche (38) traded in her sexy bob for a cute pixie. She also went from blonde to brunette. Her bangs are gone and so are all the layers. That’s what you call a serious makeover, but it’s much more difficult to recognize her, especially with the new tan! Spring or summer could be the ideal seasons to make the leap of faith for this new hairstyle, but you may prefer to reverse the hue change and go blonde for the summer.

Janet Jackson (44) is one of the latest ladies to lop her locks in one of the most startling makeovers of 2011. Did you see this one coming? She has enjoyed extreme lengths and curls for years. But now her black hairstyle is very short and entirely straight. Janet has layered bangs which are angled and broken up in a playful and casual fashion. She also has sharply pointed sideburns. (Courtesy CNN)

Heather Morris (24) fanned out her long extensions to show off this mermaid-inspired design. There are soft waves everywhere and everything is brought forward to the front for extra emphasis. Her own hair is likely double-processed, but it is healthy and this big style could make a lasting impression.

Yvonne Strahovski (28) looks like a Hollywood star with this elegant hairstyle. It has the volume and color we have come to expect of women with her calling. There is an attractive mix of thin and grouped sections. The long wave that is partly piecey and falls over her eye is sassy! It makes a suitable pick for the girl who wants to look formal and a little playful at the same time.

Emma Watson (20). Her evening dress was full of tulle and very girly, but the young star’s haircut is the boyish pixie. The rad snip was unveiled last year and Emma claimed she found it liberating. Was she simply putting on a brave face? Probably not. Several months later she still seems to be pleased with it. Nothing is happening at the neat top. The best part is the cool bangs which are spiky with a variety of lengths and angles. Her “sideburns” are longer than you might expect since everything else is so short, but they assist in making her cut modestly more feminine. It’s obviously not for every woman, but Ms. Watson is wearing it with complete confidence. As pixies go this one is better than average.

Natasha McElhone (41) has a swanky chignon that could pass for a wedding hairstyle. Any bride could wear it comfortably. It’s a sweet updo with the sweeping wave which is long and simple. The trick is the foundation of extra lift dead center at the hairline. One stray bit at the back could be neater if pinned down; other than that it gives beautiful tone for all elegant events.

Jessica Alba (29) has hit the red carpet with divine updos before, but this year in the UK at their most important engagement she tried two rows of braids. Is it better than just one, which is much more common with celebrities today? Maybe. Wrapping the hairline like this into a horizontal version of double french braids creates a highly structured look. Everything is so tight. That makes any frizz more noticeable. With this two-ring style it almost seems the only thing missing is a halo. Her forehead is large, so even though the design itself is acceptable, it’s not her most flattering idea.

Wynter Gordon (25) is a rapidly rising recording artist. The new star went out for the evening with bold colors and big hair. It has cute curls and corkscrew bangs. Wynter’s medium hairstyle is strong, but she’s a petite girl so there is a width issue. Her ‘do is nearly as wide as she is! Does that make it overpowering on her diminutive frame or just fun?

Jena Malone (26) has fine hair cut into a blunt bob with a very straight edge. It is almost entirely free of shape but there is one long layer framing her face. The short design is very simple but unexpectedly contrasted by heavy eye makeup.

Sonia Rockwell (32) has been making waves for a few years on the road to the Hollywood A-list. She is getting her long hair up to a higher level, too. In this photo, Sonia has lots of layers visibly stacked in a casual style on the side from a brush back and hairspray. Her golden brown tresses are highlighted with narrow red panels. On her the base and accent colors are reasonable, but you should see in the gallery on imdb.com what being a brunette does for her eyes. If you forget her hair you will remember she is a photogenic and spirited actress with an infectious smile. :)

Jade Williams (26) could make you frown or cause your eyes pop in alarm: “What was she thinking?” How could such a beautiful girl have such horrible hair?! It’s not clear if it was done on purpose or by accident, but it’s fashionable, so let’s give Jade the benefit of the doubt. Although you can’t draw a line between where one color ends and the other begins, the intense difference is disturbing. The least she could do is choose two colors which go together. The other problem is the plain shape for the reason noted in the previous review.

Sarah Harding (29) was a blonde only a few weeks ago, as she had been for years, but then she suddenly went brunette. However, it doesn’t seem any more positive a development than when Britney Spears did something similar in 2004. The general response of the public (70%) said she looked better as a blonde. The lack of styling doesn’t help sell the new hue, either. Sarah just brushed her hair back, which isn’t really a style. The cut and color are not doing anything for her; they are just too bland, and unsuitable for her reputation and career.

Carrie Underwood (28) loves medium hairstyles and this layered one matches her reputation and our high expectations. Do you like everyday elegance? Notice the playful combination of layers on one side and flips on the other. It’s a sweet mix of horizontal and vertical styling.

Chelsea Kane (22) looks cute with her chin-length bob and chunky bang. Fine layers are getting boring; we need more women with a fresh style that has this spiky edge. It is not unlike the hair model’s design in a print ad a few years ago. Extra lift at the parting makes it pop perfectly. Chelsea has a fun personality and this youthful haircut fits her to a tee. Highly recommended for teens. (Courtesy ABC)

Tamyra Gray (31) also has red hair that is straight, but it’s a hot bob. She has found a fine way to make a simple style very interesting. The primary tone and highlights are so flattering for her skin tone. Those are some sexy colors! The cut is sideswept with an extremely wide parting; it is almost as far on the side of her head as it could be. On the right girl that just makes it cuter.

Christina Hendricks (35) has a shade of red with plenty of pop. It’s not the Fanta color, but it’s getting there. It’s more intense than what most ladies wear today; anything brighter could lead to an arrest by the fashion police! She’s not a natural redhead but she’s a convincing one because of her pale skin. Christina’s medium hairstyle is super thick. Her bangs are long and choppy in the middle. Have you ever observed how there’s something about red hair just after it’s been washed and dried that you don’t get if you’re a blonde or brunette? There is the special finesse of a subtle glow.

Ritzy Bryan’s bob almost seems shattered but unfortunately it’s more like a mop. Piecey hairstyles are popular and easy enough to create in a visually pleasing manner, but the exception is blunt bobs. Ritzy’s is reminiscent of flamboyant fashion designer Betsey Johnson’s trademark tresses, but the singer’s lines aren’t so severe. Even so, a little bit of curling iron use could quickly remove the “helmet head.”

Josie Ho Chiu Yi has underlayers worthy of an ultra-creative musician. There is platinum blonde in a very cool tone, which is not far off artic white; and underneath it’s very dark like jet black. Messy as if it was already tossed around during a rock concert, Josie also has bangs with a mind of their own. Her fragmented fringe draws extra attention from the different hues so close to the white top.

Lacey Schwimmer (22) is shown in this pic from a side view with what curiously appears to be hair that was spray-painted? After her infamous incident on Dancing With The Stars this season, now it looks more like she’s been in the auto shop than the beauty shop! There is some moderation by not using the polar opposite colors. This is Lacey’s second attempt at the fab fad and this time she has a faux fade.

2011 Oscars: Best and Worst Dressed and More on the Red Carpet

    The Eight Worst Dressed

    8. Sharon Stone

Oh, Sharon Stone. Does she ever look classy? I know some people thought she looked great, but I thought she looked like an aging high-class escort. The hair was too big, the makeup was too heavy (emphasize your eyes OR your lips, Sharon, not both) and the dress somehow reminded me of Cruella Deville.

    Grade: C-

    7. Jennifer Hudson

This one really breaks my heart, since I’ve always loved Jennifer Hudson and she’s lost all that weight. But this dress just seemed really, really tacky to me. Orange is a hard color to wear, but orange + shiny fabric + lotsa cleavage +gathered at the hip = looking like the school tramp at prom.

    Grade: C-

    6. Penelope Cruz

Speaking of the school slut at prom…I just can’t get behind Penelope Cruz’s choice. She’s a beautiful woman and I love the color on her, but all those red sequins with all that cleavage just screamed “Open for Business!” to me. I usually complain that Penelope wears too many princess dresses. This time, the pendulum swung too far in the other direction.

    Grade: C-

    5. Nicole Kidman

From some angles, this gown was actually OK. But most of the time, it was just unflattering. It made her hips look wide and her chest look small, and it kind of looked like it was made from a really fancy bedspread. And then she lost even more points for the garish orange shoes.

    Grade: D

    4. Marisa Tomei

Here, I suffered from a classic case of raised expectations. I saw a few tweets that Marisa Tomei looked great, but when I caught a glimpse I hated the gown. Where to begin? The neckline is too high and it looks weird. The skirt looks like someone decided to sew half of another gown onto what she was already wearing. Her hair sucks. There’s weird pleating in the hip area. She…well, you get my drift. It’s a fashion fail.

    Grade: D

    3. Helena Bonham Carter

Sometimes I can rejoice in the wacky wonder that is Helena Bonham Carter, but here she just actually looks like Bellatrix Lestrange. I hate the sleeves, and the corset, and the whole thing really reminds me of the early 90s. Not even mismatched shoes could save this look.

    Grade: D-

    2. Florence Welch

Her band might be called Florence and the Machine, but her gown looks like it was handmade. In the 1800s. Seriously, did she craft that thing out of curtains and doilies from her grandmother’s apartment? Did she borrow it from her grandmother? Was it her grandmother’s wedding gown? Did someone come over on the Mayflower wearing it? Should I continue asking questions to imply that it looks really, really old?

    Grade: F

    1. Melissa Leo

Congratulations, Melissa. Not only did you bomb (or F-bomb) your speech, but you kinda sucked at the red carpet too. Apparently she chose this dress based on what her character in The Fighter would have picked. Honestly, I cannot think of a worse possible way to choose a gown for the Oscars than “Hmmm, I wonder what the white trash psycho I brilliant portrayed would have worn?” And why is she channeling Elvis so much? Was she hoping to score a role in a movie playing him the way Cate Blanchett played Bob Dylan? That’s also a terrible way to choose your red carpet looks. Oh, Melissa. You’re a hell of an actress, but you need a new stylist.

    Grade: F

YAWN – Three women who bored me to tears

Left to right: Jennifer Lawrence, Michelle Williams, Halle Berry

I know Jennifer Lawrence will be at the top of a lot of Best Dressed lists today, but I just can’t get into a girl who wears a gown that looks like a swimsuit. Seriously, from the neck up she looked like a character on Baywatch. There’s simplistic elegance, and then there’s just…nothing. There is just nothing exciting about that dress. Grade: C+

Michelle Williams has been, for better or for worse, adorably quirky. So why the boring T-shirt dress? I feel like I’ve seen that look done better on a million different girls before. Plus it didn’t help that she seemed to be speaking in some kind of put-on accent during her red carpet interviews, which is really lame considering she’s from Montana and was once on Dawson’s Creek. She gets props for bringing the lovable Busy Phillips as her date, though. Grade: C+

Halle Berry. Oh, Halle. Another one who will be at the top of many Best Dressed lists today. But I’m sorry. I am so over Halle Berry. It seems like she wears almost the same dress the every awards show, in either black, brown or champagne. Come on, Halle! Mix it up a little! Grade: B-

    Close, But No Cigar

Sometimes a star shows up on the red carpet and you say “Ooh, she looks fantastic!” But as soon as the words are out of your mouth (or entered into Twitter for the world to see) you notice the one thing keeping that celebrity from looking like a million bucks. Here are six women who almost got it right:

Clockwise: Sandra Bullock, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, Annette Bening, Gwyneth Paltrow, Amy Adams

I wanted to like Sandra Bullock’s gown, I really did. I like her so much as an actress and celebrity, and she looked so fantastic when she was nominated for everything last year. And in theory, this dress was nice. But on TV the top just didn’t fit right, and I couldn’t put her on the Best Dressed list. Sorry, Sandy. We’ll always have 2010. Grade: B-

I liked Reese Witherspoon’s gown, but her hair caused much debate at the party I attended. I thought it looked like Jessica Simpson hair extensions. Another girl pointed out that it was reminiscent of her Legally Blonde character, Elle Woods. Most of Twitter suggested it looked like a Barbie. Whatever it was, it took her look from classic to prom in a bad way. Grade: B-

Not everyone liked Scarlett Johansson’s gown, but I thought it was different and cool and sexy. My problem was with her greasy, stringy hair. Seriously, ScarJo, there is such a thing as too much mousse. Grade: B

Annette Bening has been hit-and-miss all season, and she came really close to a hit here. I like the dress. But something about those lines just ended up being really unflattering. Maybe it was her posture, maybe it was the shiny material. But whatever it was, the camera did not love it. Grade: C

A lot of people really liked Gwyneth’s tinfoil gown, but I had two problems with it. One, the weird slit down the front was way too space-suit. Two, it didn’t fit well and from the right angle really emphasized how flat-chested she is. Grade: C+

Consider Amy Adams to be an honorable mention on my Best Dressed list, because I absolutely loved her gown. The gown was stunning, her hair and makeup were stunning…she was all set to make my top five of the night. And then someone added that necklace. If it was a stylist, he or she should be fired. If it was Amy, she should hire a stylist. Why? Why would anyone think that necklace went with that gown? It’s so unfair! Grade: B- (without the necklace it would have been an A-)

    And then there’s Cate…

Some of you may have been thinking “Where is Cate Blanchett? Why wasn’t she on the Worst Dressed list?” Well, she’s not on the Worst list because I think her gown is the epitome of “Close But No Cigar”.

From the waist down, the gown is gorgeous. The color suits her and it’s just bizarre enough to suit her high fashion tastes. Cate Blanchett is one of those people who can pretty much pull off anything on the red carpet. In fact, if anyone could have pulled this off it would have been her. Unfortunately, no one could pull this off.

From the neck up? Well, first of all the gown looks like it has a disease. A fashion STD, if you will. I just hope it wasn’t contagious. And then there’s the fact that it is circling her chest. And the green accents? Not really disproving my whole disease theory. So from the waist down and the neck up, Cate looks great. But the chest is the “no cigar”.

    Grade: C-

    Honorable Mentions: Performance Outfits

And the award for best dressed while singing goes to…Chuck Bartowski! My beloved Zachary Levi may have looked a tad too tan, but damn, did he look dapper. Plus I’m just thrilled with the fact that his awesome swoon-worthiness was displayed to a large audience. Grade: A

Oh yeah, and some women sang too. Florence Welch’s gown looked better on TV than in photos, but at least it was a step up from her red carpet get up. Grade: B- As for Gwyneth, she can do better – and I’m talking both about her dress and her singing. Grade: C And while Mandy Moore’s dress was certainly…large, I thought it was a great choice for performing a song from a fairy tale. Grade: B+

    The Seven Best Dressed

    7. Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore was a little unrecognizable at first – did she always look so much like Anne Hathaway? – but she looked like a princess in this gorgeous sparkling gown. Fitting, considering she was there to sing a nominated song from Tangled.

    Grade: B+

    6. Celine Dion

This is a woman who once wore a backwards tuxedo to the Oscars. You’ve come a long way, baby.

    Grade: A-

    5. Hilary Swank

White swan at the top, black swan at the bottom! I’m not usually a fan of Hilary Swank, but last night she looked soft and pretty. It was like she was Matt Damon’s sister, rather than him dressed in drag.

    Grade: A-

    4. Helen Mirren

There’s that damn Helen Mirren…(a reference to last year’s co-hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.)

Who knew gray could look so good? I really love the puffed sleeves and waistline on this gown, and the necklace works in an unexpected way. This woman exudes class the way Colin Firth exudes charm, and it helps that her bit with Russell Brand was hilarious.

    Grade: A-

    3. Hailee Steinfeld

Fashion icon in the making? I think so. Hailee Steinfeld exudes so much confidence and charm that it’s easy to forget she’s a teenager who was nominated for her first ever role.

Apparently she helped design this Marchesa number, which is pretty much every teenage girl’s dream come true. I love how youthful, fun and pretty it is. The length is great and different, and the neckline is so pretty. She’s worn her hair down a lot, so it was great to see her with it pulled back and her makeup was fantastic.

    Grade: A

    2. Mila Kunis

or #2 spot on my Best Dressed list all season, so this girl deserves serious praise. She’s wowed me with her use of color, the gorgeous cuts of the gowns she’s chosen, and her overall beauty.

This dress was the sexiest one of all. When she walked onto the red carpet, I thought “This? This is why men watch red carpets.” She manages to show a lot of skin without looking cheap, and it struck the perfect balance of modern sex appeal and old Hollywood glamor.

    Grade: A

    1. Natalie Portman

It’s hard to compare Natalie and Mila since Mila looked so sexy and Natalie is pregnant, but I had to give the top spot to Natalie for just looking so freakin’ amazing. The cut of her dress was so flattering and made her look effortlessly beautiful. She has definitely joined the ranks of pregnant style icons like Jessica Alba, Catherine Zeta Jones and Angelina Jolie.

My favorite things about the gown were the color and the neckline, and I also absolutely loved her tassel earrings. Some people on Twitter were bashing them, but as one like-minded tweeter said to me, it’s nice to see a departure from the usual glitzy diamonds and gems.

While I loved Natalie’s hair, I didn’t love her makeup. Up close there was too much eyeshadow under her eyes and it made her look a bit tired.

Still, I was blown away by her beauty.

    Grade: A+

Golden Globes Best And Worst Dressed 2011

    WORST: A Dangerous Game

‘Mad Men’ star January Jones loves to push the boundaries of fashion, but this bright red peekaboo Versace gown takes things a little too far. Made entirely of flowy fringe with some dangerous cutouts, it’s a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.

    BEST: Get Low

‘Love and Other Drugs’ star Anne Hathaway jumps on the backless bandwagon to make our best list. This stunning spangled Armani gown is modern and demure with long sleeves and a high neck. It’s when she turns around that you get that movie star moment.

    WORST: America’s Wallflower

Sandra Bullock looks like she’s shying away from the spotlight with her new heavy bangs, but it’s the blah dress that really underwhelms. The pale pink Jenny Packham number tries to wow with crystal detail, but we’ve come to expect more pizzazz from Sandy.

    BEST: A Fine Fairytale

‘House’ star Olivia Wilde shines in this strapless princess Marchesa gown, with a generous spray of gold sequins dazzling on chocholate brown tulle. We love that she let the dress shine, ditching any additional jewels, but an updo might’ve taken this to another level.

    WORST: Flower Child

Michelle Williams gets hippy chic … minus the chic. The ‘Blue Valentine’ star’s flower power Valentino number, blooming with daisies on the neutral nude fabric, is a little too garden party and not enough Golden Globes.

    BEST: Can Can Do

‘Winter’s Bone’ star Jennifer Lawrence is a stand out in black — which isn’t that easy to do — at her first Golden Globes. Her black ruffled Louis Vuitton number is stunning, with a sexy split front and gorgeously shaped and fitted bodice.

    BEST: Shining Star

Best Original Song nominee Carrie Underwood is the epitome of Hollywood glam in this sequined Badgley Mischka gown. Letting the dress speak for itself — sequins that dazzling don’t need jewelry or fussy hair — the singer proves her status as a red carpet pro.

    WORST: It’s Alive!

Julianne Moore’s hot pink Lanvin gown appears to be eating her necklace. And one of her arms. The color is bold, which we have to applaud, but the shapeless, strangely asymmetrical style is just screaming “worst.”

    BEST: Peachy Keen

‘Easy A’ star Emma Stone — who’s gone blonde for her upcoming role in ‘Spider-Man’ — plays up her lighter locks in a figure-flattering peach Calvin Klein number. The short sleeves and high neckline are perfect on her petite frame.

    BEST: Back in Black

Eva Longoria followed the night’s big trend in black, but this classic Zac Posen gown is anything but basic. With a fitted bodice, fluid train and two diamond birds on her belted waist, the newly single ‘Desperate Housewives’ star is a show-stopper.

    WORST: Crazy Train

I’d say we’ve given up on getting anything less than crazy from Helena Bonham Carter’s red carpet looks, but this never gets old. She’s sporting her signature wild hair, a mess of a Vivienne Westwood dress and, the kicker, mismatched shoes. Thanks for keeping things interesting!

    BEST: In the Pink

‘Temple Grandin’ nominee Claire Danes is a vision in hot pink. The bright color is a cheery change on the evening’s red carpet, and the sleek design by Calvin Klein Collection fits her like a glove.

WORST: A Rose By Any Other Name …

Bravo to lovely Natalie Portman on her nominated ‘Black Swan’ performance, her engagement, the baby on the way. Obviously all that left her with no time to shop, because this Viktor & Rolf pink satin dress — complete with a hideous sequined rose — is uninspired at best.

    BEST: Green With Envy

We get it, Angelina Jolie — you have it all. The ‘Tourist’ star looks right at home in a glam sparkly Atelier Versace gown. The floor-length, long-sleeved number gets some added wow with draped backless detail. And Brad Pitt doesn’t hurt the look either.

    WORST: Ice Princess

Nominee Jennifer Love Hewitt has another red carpet miss in an icy pale blue Romona Caveza gown with a fussy flyaway top and a too-high hairdo. The only hint of color comes by way of a too-orange spray tan. Not good.

    WORST: Windy City

Scarlett Johansson looks like she cruised through a wind tunnel on her way to the Globes. Coupled with a stuffy sequined gown, complete with sheer butterfly wings — I mean, sleeves — the newly single star seems less than thrilled to be somewhere so public.

    BEST: Red Hot

‘Modern Family’ beauty Sofia Vergara struts her stuff in sexy red on the red carpet. This belted and sashed Vera Wang gown shows off her fine figure, and the lace-up detail in back takes those covetable curves from wow to va-va-voom.

    WORST: Nothing to Talk About

‘Gossip Girl’ Leighton Meester is no stranger to trying new things, but this blah Burberry Prorsum gown really lets the fashionista down. Muted colors, long sleeves and a very modest slit put this unflattering and un-wowing look at the lowest point on our list.

    BEST: Power Couple

Catherine Zeta-Jones is stunning in an emerald green Monique Lhuillier strapless gown, but her best accessory is hubby Michael Douglas. He’s healthy, in good spirits and cancer-free — we couldn’t be more thrilled for the happy couple.

    WORST: Coming Up Short

It’s hard to pick apart someone as perfect as Halle Berry, but that won’t stop us from cutting down her Nina Ricci dress a bit. The flowy piece of material on the bottom can’t hide how mini that dress really is. Luckily she’ll have a tablecloth to cover her up a bit during the show.

    WORST: J-Dazzled

New ‘American Idol’ judge Jennifer Lopez looks, well, old. Her bright white Zuhair Murad dress could’ve been a shining example on an otherwise dark red carpet, but that sheer bedazzled bolero ruins any positive buzz she had going.

    Celeb Bags

Yves Saint Laurent Chyc Cabas: Rock the Cabas

Calling all snobs! There’s an official new “It” bag in town, from Los Angeles to New York. Noticed a suspiciously similar roomy tote hanging from the forearms of noted style-setters like Sienna Miller, Leighton Meester, Kylie Minogue, and Carla Bruni and glamorous starlets such as Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Salma Hayek?

Ah, the age-old question of what makes an “It” bag. The answer? It’s the right combination of structure and lack thereof; ease that can be appropriated to any knowing woman’s wardrobe, whether she’s ladylike or bohemian; a major statement-maker without sticking a fat logo in your face and everyone else’s.

The Chyc Cabas is an adaptable carry-all that’s a city girl’s dream: sheepskin leather in a hold-everything size, multiple pockets (two outer, an inside phone and zip), and the trademark magnetic “Y” closure that spells “Yves Saint Laurent” in a single, decorative letter. Plus, a color for every personality – the neutrals: olive-tinted sand, shiny black, grayish brown and the wilds: juicy magenta, punchy blue, and leopard. Available at Yves Saint Laurent and to be available at Saks Fifth Avenueicon, for $1,995.

Demi Moore Carries Roger Vivier “Prisme Chine” Clutch: More Color, Moore Luster

While the ever-sparkly Demi seems to age in reverse, her sense of style stays several steps ahead of the curve. By the looks of her beaming gaze and comfortable embrace with Ashton at the Urban Zen Awards in NYC on June 9th, I’m thinking love is the secret to her unyieldingly youthful appearance.

But the highlight of her simple-chic black-and-white ensemble is no enigma. Roger Vivier‘s polychromatic “Prisme Chine” ($925) clutch is an absolute piece of art. The painterly pattern is beautifully chaotic, one color being bolder than the last, and the asymmetrical golden buckle mimics the geometric shape of this prismatic bag. Leaving all else tintless (aside from her trademark Kabbalah string), her fringed white top, loose trousers, and peep-toe pumps let the shot of glorious color shine. At Roger Vivier stores.

    The Row: The Golden Touch

It is no surprise the bags from The Row (named after Savile Row, a.k.a. “The Golden Mile”) are as meticulously crafted and streamlined as the ready-to-wear line. If the clothes are any indication, the Olsens are dedicated to high quality and clean lines. But I am pleasantly surprised at how well the girls are able to translate their very unique personal style to bags that work for everyone.

Ashley and Mary-Kate each brought one out for a run at the CFDA – and I went from impressed to obsessed! The proportions of these bags are amazing on petite girls, like themselves, but the shapes will work on taller snobs, too. Especially Ashley’s elongated classic lizard shoulder bag. The twins also exhibited how well these grown-up bags, designed with the eyes of wise fashion souls beyond their 24 years, can be appropriated to both sleek (as seen on Ashley in a blue dress by The Row) and opulent (Mary-Kate, wearing Chanel Pre-Fall) looks.

They have succeeded in offering us styles to fill a void in your bag wardrobe for a lifetime. I’m experiencing a mania of epic proportions over these bags! Except I’m not so crazy about the prices. Though, like The Row Ready-to-Wear, I am certain fat price tags won’t stop this bag line from flying off the shelves. Classic Shoulder Bag in Lizard, $5,450. Metal Frame Lizard Bag, $5,800.

Tod’s “Lucy” Calf Hair Clutch: Halle Takes a Walk Near the Wild Side

2011 FiFi Awards honoree Halle Berry showed off her wild side at the event in New York City last week, proving that her wild side can be rather sophisticated. While you can rely on Halle to consistently look stunning, she really nailed it – thanks in large part to her Tod’s “Lucy” clutch.

The classic Tod’s oversized buckle pochette is given a fierce makeover in slick, shiny calf hair – the heavy texture of the bag sets off her bold, cutout Halston dress. She wisely kept her makeup light and neutral, along with her single burst of oversized earrings, to avoid looking like Pebbles.

While I’m not crazy about the dress, she makes it work (few could successfully wear such a skin-skimming, ab-revealing choice), and I am in love with the clutch: soft and strong, intriguing and versatile, with skin that rings exotic for a hint of mystery.

Lucy Liu Carries Roger Vivier: In Liu of the Boring Clutch…

Make no mistake, Lucy Liu is baaaaack! And looking better than ever! I love her sensibility: never fussy, always glamorous. She proves few can work the simple shades of black and white, a belted dress, and most importantly, a Roger Vivier clutch the way she does. Making the rounds to promote her new movie “Kung Fu Panda 2″ she carried off a near-impossible feat: beguiling us from the likes of Angelina Jolie.

What could be more glam than Vivier clutches? Sure, her sleekly sophisticated yet coquettishly feminine dress and heel choices didn’t hurt – Marchesa with Jimmy Choo in LA, Antonio Berardi with Casedei in NYC, and Givenchy with Jimmy Choo at MoMA. Though it was Vivier’s clutches that finished her looks in style and really caught my eye.

The “Boite de Nuite” box clutch got double duty, showcased in two styles at the film’s premiere in LA and a MoMA dinner. No surprise: the bag is a versatile, futuristic-chic mix of resin and crocodile, hard and soft, color-blocked in contrasting hues. In New York, her black and white dress was beautifully complimented with a strong kick of color via the “Night Tube Plume” in fuchsia with scattered beading and crystal buckle.

I am having major bag envy right now, and while we’re at it, add leg envy! She looks amazing, and I’m so glad to see her in the spotlight again.

    My Tod’s Special Edition Bags

Not all brands can be everything to everyone (no one is perfect, after all) but there are a special few who rarely fail me– one of them being Tod’s. Every season, I buy a Tod’s bag or two and use them to death (I am hard on my things but Tod’s bags take the beating beautifully). This year, I’m yearning for the sunny yellow limited edition D-Styling Bauletto bag ($1,665) issued for the re-opening of Tod’s South Coast Plaza boutique (only 35 made!). Each of these limited bags is embossed with “My Tod’s Special Edition” in the interior. It is exclusive to the South Coast Plaza boutique so you must call them to order (before they sell out!) 714-556-0239.

Not a fan of yellow like I am? Make like SJP and grab yourself the large Tod’s tote in white leather. Don’t worry about getting it dirty– if SJP can tote hers in the rain, to the park, WITH an eight year old boy, why should you worry about a little stain? I own a Tod’s Rodeo bag from 2002 in white leather and it is still in pristine condition (and you thought I was kidding about being a Tod’s fanatic– I remember every single Tod’s bag purchase and the year it was made). The sumptuous skins used by Tod’s is sturdy and cleans easily, even in white.

The Large Tote in White Leather retails for $1,400 at Saks Fifth Avenueicon

Tell me, which one do you prefer?

    Milla Jovovich in Sergio Rossi

Cannes Film Festival is like the 12 days of Christmas for the fashion industry. Each day, a parade of primped and coiffed celebs glide down the runway (I mean red carpet) offering plenty of fodder for gawkers and fashion bloggers alike.

I only comment on the stand outs and today, Milla Jovovich caught my eye in an unexpected color-blocked gown from Prada. Even more intriguing, however, was the minaudiere dangling from her shoulder from Sergio Rossi. I love the long shoulder/crossbody chain trend on the red carpet– it allows one a nonchalant and elegant pose, unlike posing with a clutch (there is the football hold, the clutch it like a baby stance or dangle gingerly from your fingers– I have tried all three and trust me, equally awkward). This stunner is from Sergio Rossi‘s “Red Carpet Limited Edition Minaudiere” in Red Satin trimmed with Swarovski Crystal Butterfly Trim. Add flawless hair, bold red lips and we have a 10+ red carpet look in my book.

What do you think of the look?

Marni Textured Bucket Bag: January’s Not-So-Basic Basic Bag

Versace girl January Jones is known for her sleek, simple style (and now a talked-about pregnancy!). But anyone trailing her could recognize the fine-featured blonde by her Marni bucket bag. Whether she’s dashing off to a sports event or lunching with the girls, January always has her leather bag in tow! I can see why: black totes tend to border on boring, but this embellished bucket has playful details to keep your eyes interested. All those oversized studs, so big they are pure pop art, give it depth and flavor. I’m all for girls having a trademark satchel, but maybe January would like to mix it up with Marni’s mouse-gray version shoulder version sometime? Carry on! Marni Textured Bucket Bag, at Hamrah’s for $1,715.

Sarah Jessica Parker at the Ballet Spring Gala in VBH Sueded Python Bag

Ever the trend setter, SJP attended last night’s Ballet Spring Gala 2011 with her favorite VBH sueded python origami bag effortlessly slung over her gown. I love this look! It completely changed the overtone of her outfit and made it playful and youthful. The bag is available at VBH Boutique for $1,750– 940 Madison Avenue New York 212.717.9800 Or Pre-Order at Neiman Marcus here.

How do you feel about using cross body bags at formal events?

Roger Vivier at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala: Roger Vivier’s Savage Beauties

Dark beauty Penélope Cruz was my Bag Snob of the evening. The dramatic feathered “Foxtrot” clutch was the perfect complement to her Oscar de la Renta gown, a silk organza, chiffon, and tulle tiered concoction of elegance that welcomed a wildly high-personality clutch. Voluminous feathers brought pageantry to a classically glamorous look.

Other savage beauties included: A monochromatic Michelle Monaghan, slinky and sensual in a fluid bubble gum dress by Derek Lam, with the “Coup de Pinceau Night” tube – the satin clutch gave her dress the angularity it demanded.

Amy Adams looked all grown up in her L’Wren Scott column gown, but far more eye-catching was the “Plumette Tube” clutch she held in her hands, not as explosively feathery as Cruz’s but equally lush.

Lastly, Livia Firth (wife to Colin) gave Roger Vivier double-time with the “Pilgrim Mini” clutch and forest-green open-Toe “Epine” pumps, bringing dynamism to her organic silk Stella McCartney gown.

Oscars 2011 Dresses Picked By Rich Girl

The best looking girl on the Oscars 2011 to my mind was Camila Alves – model and mother of 2 kids with Matthew McConaughey.

… and the Zuhair Murad Spring 2011 Couture gown she had chosen for the Vanity Fair party.

Halle Berry in nude and crystal encrusted Marchesa corset gown and Hilary Swank in Gucci Premiere couture dress. There was something magical about these dresses, they looked like fairy princesses.

Gwyneth Paltrow and the suntan dress by Michael Kors, which she was wearing for the Vanity Fair party.

Atelier Versace gown with Swarovski crystal detailing which Charlize Theron wore for the Vanity Fair party…

… and Eva Mendes in custom Donna Karan black dress at the same party.
