Celebrity hair: blonde vs brunette

As Tulisa becomes the latest star to go from brunette to blonde, take a look at other celebrities who have made the switch.
TULISA CONTOSTAVLOS

Tulisa is the latest celebrity to turn from brunette to blonde arriving at the High Court for her sex tape scandal case with a mane of golden curls. Well, gold tinged with orange – the downside of dramatic dye-jobs. Although her hair was overly dark before, we still prefer her as a brunette, she just needs to go for a softer, more golden brown next time.

RIHANNA

Rihanna’s tried nearly every colour of the spectrum on her locks, but after a couple of months of platinum style, she unveiled her newly dark hair to a film premiere just yesterday: a vast improvement on those brassey tones, we say.

JESSICA STAM

Next up on the hair-dying scene, eternally blonde model Jessica Stam has turned to the dark side, and though her pretty face could carry almost anything off, we miss the blue-eyed blonde from before.

CRYSTAL RENN

This model just loves a change. First she goes from plus-size to sample-size, and now she’s ditched her gorgeous shiny black hair for this brassey blonde. A change too far? We think so too.

CHERYL COLE

After public X Factor humiliation and a messy divorce, Cheryl unveiled a new blonde ‘do. Ageing and yellow-y we bet her bosses at L’Oreal were shaking their heads.

AGYNESS DEYN

The cheeky Mancunian model burst onto the scene with her platinum bob and despite dalliances with jet black (and flaming red) she’ll always be a blonde in our eyes.

ABBEY LEE KERSHAW

Much as we loved her girl-next-door mouse, top model Abbey Lee’s bleached blonde tresses suit her rock-chic style.

BEYONCÉ

Any colour in the world wouldn’t taint the Queen of Cool, Beyonce.

VICTORIA BECKHAM

Oh wow… In her WAG glory days VB was a bona fide boob-y blonde, but fast forward a few years and a successful fashion label later, and Beckham’s a leading brunette. Much better.

SCARLETT JOHANSSON

Though Johansson’s pretty face could carry most colours, that Monroe-esque glamour looks that much better topped off with platinum curls.

CAREY MULLIGAN

Blonde? Brunette? Whichever. Everyone’s favourite actress Carey Mulligan can do no wrong in our eyes!

REESE WITHERSPOON

Experiment as she might, Reese Witherspoon will always be the ultimate blonde.

RACHEL McADAMS

Some people just have all the luck: McAdams is a total beauty both ways.

KYLIE MINOGUE

Eek! That dark brown hair is too severe for pint-sized pop princess Kylie Minogue.

KATY PERRY

A very good example of why those with dark hair should reconsider blonde: it’s called green.

CAMERON DIAZ

Though we loved Cameron’s dalliance with dark locks, she’s the ultimate beach babe and should have blonde locks to match.

JESSICA ALBA

Honey-coloured skin and luscious brown hair, Jessica Alba’s dark Latin colouring needs no messing with.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE

‘The Hunger Games’ star dyed her natural blonde locks brown for her turn the film – a move which cost $30,000 – so that she she could get just the right hue of chesnut the first time around.

KATE MOSS

Time might have fooled observers into thinking supermodel Kate Moss is a natural blonde, but that is definitely not the case. Moss embraced her natural hue circa 1999.

SIENNA MILLER

The ultimate blue-eyed blonde, actress Sienna Miller experimented with dark dresses almost 10 years ago. We’re firmly in the blonde is best camp.

CHARLIZE THERON

Hollywood beauty Charlize could probably pull off green hair if she wanted to, but we’re big fans of her beachy-blonde mane.

EVAN RACHEL WOOD

Actress and style chameleon Evan Rachel co-ordinated her dye job to porcelain skin when dark, and warm foundation when blonde. We think her gothic side is the most dramatic.

DREW BARRYMORE

Youthful actress or Hollywood glamazon? Drew’s whole persona changes with a slick of the dye.

Get the look: Flapper fashion

1920s revival

Katy Perry wowed on the red carpet last month when she stepped out in a vintage Nolan Miller silk dress and a jewelled headband. The Firework singer was certainly channelling the roaring ’20s, and it seems she is not alone when it comes to working this trend – which was seen at Gucci’s spring/summer 12 shows, as well as on the catwalk at Etro, Chanel and Roberto Cavalli.

‘The 1920s look was revolutionary – women were no longer restricted by corsets, and for the first time ever, showed off some leg, although hemline remained below the knee for most of the decade,’ says Lena Weber, founder of the Vintage Guide to London.

When you’re trying to achieve this Gatsby-esque look keep your eye out for drop waists and geometric shapes. The look is pale and interesting – so avoid fake tan, and keep it looking modern with a pulled-back pony and minimal make-up.

Diane is certainly channelling her inner Daisy Buchanan in this grey Chanel dress and glittering clutch. We adore her pinned finger wave hairstyle.

Emma shows off her enviable pins in this fringed hem Bottega Veneta lace dress.

Evan is wearing the Gucci dress which helped sparked the ’20s trend earlier this year. The choice of art deco colours enhances the dress and Rachel’s gold nail polish perfectly complements the look.

Zoe’s Lanvin dress adds a perfect twist of modernity to the ’20s look. The fringing nods to the bygone era while the bold colours bring the dress completely up to date.

Blake shimmers in this Marchesa gown. We love the green applique around the bust and the deco drop earrings are to die for.

Wearing Alberta Ferretti, Amanda looks every inch a flapper.

Vintage Chanel. Enough said…

She never fails to dazzle on the red carpet but Michelle Williams looked utterly divine in this Chanel gown. We are also coveting the scalloped clutch bag.

Kate dazzled in this flapper dress from the collection she designed for Topshop. We love the mix of a high street frock with designer Christian Louboutin shoes.

The most fashionable Olympics ever

Ralph Lauren has designed the US Olympics team kit.

In true pre-Olympics style, disasters seem imminent. Opening Ceremony curtailment, security guards fiascos and even the BBC has thrown its hat into the critical ring with spoof series, Twenty Twelve, mocking the organising committee’s moves.

But when it comes to fashion, there are few who can disagree that this is lining up to be, as none other than Giorgio Armani put it, “the most fashionable Olympic Games ever”.

We’ve been told it is to be the Twitter Olympics, technology and social-media driven – but we also know that, true to form, it will be a showcase of daring British style.

Azerbaijan has cast Ermanno Scervino to dress its Olympics team.

Not one for typically stepping in line, fashion in this instance is forced to adapt to the primary concerns of performance. Sportswear, particularly at this zenith of competitive levels, comes with a gamut of critical functions – speed, movement, durability, temperature regulation, shock absorption, support.

So, for those designers more used to courting the adage ‘no pain, no gain’ and sending gazelle-like models in 6-inch heels down catwalks, the Olympics are likely to pose something of a curved ball.

Enter the team of sartorial thread-smiths who have been charged with injecting high fashion credibility into the tracks, pitches, pools, lakes and courts of East London and beyond.

Italy has Armani (pictured here) at its sartorial head, while Prada is at the helm of its sailing team outfits.

And if anyone can imbue a touch of sartorial kudos into a Lycra onesie, it is Stella McCartney.

For her interpretation of team GB’s outfits, McCartney stepped away from the all-too common bands of royal blue and regimental red, instead “dismantling” what she calls “one of the most beautiful flags in the world”.

Much white and blue and a highly-criticised lack of red later (athletes wearing red have been found to outperform others), and team GB has undergone the Stella effect.

Team GB has been given the Stella McCartney touch.

“I see many feel as strongly about the Union flag as I do! The design actually uses more red & shows more flag than any Team GB kit since ’84″, she tweeted in her defence.

The volunteers don’t have it quite so easy. Boris Johnson told the army of Olympics helpers that he hoped they didn’t feel “too ridiculous” in their fluoro pink and purple combinations. That may be impossible for some of the larger-breasted Londoners – the pattern means that a dreaded ‘pink bra’ effect is neatly achieved with no effort at all.

As dubious as some of the finished products appear, these threads are all about form over function – styling comes as second fiddle to their visibility, movement and endurance capacities.

Italian design house Ermanno Scervino has created the kit for Azerbaijan Republic athletes, combining impressive amounts of aqua, green and red in team tracksuits, and the ubiquitous blazer/corporate skirt/slacks/silk scarf combination for the ceremonial events.

Ralph Lauren – beleaguered by Chinese sweatshop accusations – has given the US Olympic team his touch, with Ceremony kit designs (reminiscent, across vast swathes of nation states, of airline uniforms) punctuated by Polo logos and preppy striped belts.

Italy has the honour of Armani leading its fashion prowess, while Prada is at the helm of the Italian sailing team’s look. The navy monochrome palette – no red, green and white here – has been supplemented with a shot of Italian nationalism by stitching words to the national anthem to the jacket lining.

Away from the demi-gods of high fashion and into the grass-roots world of street culture, Bob Marley’s daughter Cadella Marley has designed the outfits for the Jamaican team. Towering over the petite designer, Usain Bolt recently modelled the yellow and green Puma threads as overseen by the designer and singer.

For the record, Australia’s lacklustre but neat Opening Ceremony get-ups are the responsibility of Sportscraft, and we have so far seen no sign of a team umbrella – shaping up to be one of the most useful tools of the Games – in any national wardrobe mix.

Elsewhere, sports-meets-fashion fever is spreading.

Nike and Liberty have collaborated to produce a line of floral-patterned trainers and Prada has reimagined its golf styles to give them a laid-back sporty edge.

Adidas has teamed up with the Olsen twins’ label, Opening Ceremony and BMX to create suitably bandit-tinged line and Coach, stately at the best of times, have launched a wallet made of the recycled baseball mitts.

Flying the flag for British talents in other areas are a host of models who are set to take their part in the Closing Ceremony. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lily Cole, Stella Tennant, Lily Donaldson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Georgia May Jagger will reportedly shimmy to the tones of David Bowie’s Fashion and Rebel Rebel at the extravaganza and are expected to wear designs by the doyenne of British fashion, Vivienne Westwood alongside Stella McCartney and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Elton John, Annie Lennox, George Michael, Pet Shop Boys, Take That and Adele are all scheduled to add their spin to the proceedings.

Then, of course, comes the Royal Family. Make no mistake, the Duchess of Cambridge’s wardrobe choices will be watched through a microscope, with predictions as to her designers of choice already doing the rounds. Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and those ubiquitous nude heels from LK Bennett are as sure to resurface as the rain is to pour.

Let the athletes take to the catwalk…

Yummy Mummies of 2012

Supermodels, sport stars and famous celebs – we present the hottest and most beautiful supermoms of this year.

These ladies have inspired, bedazzles and made our jaws drop in awe of their achievements – not only in their field of ‘expertise’, but also as a mother. In conjunction with Mother’s Day, we’ve rounded up our top selections of supermoms in sports, fashion and Hollywood who’ve proved to us once again, you can really have it all!

Jennie Finch
Sure, softball is a poor man’s baseball, but it has the hottest female athlete according to a poll done by ESPN in Jennie Finch. One of the most popular (and hottest, of course) female athletes in the world, she broke many hearts when she married Major League Baseball pitcher Casey Daigle in 2005, and the pair welcomed their son Ace in 2006. Jennie and hubby have since had another baby together.

Malia Jones
Well, if you are wondering, yes, pro surfer Malia Jones is also a model. She has appeared in more than a dozen covers and has been named one of the ’50 Most Beautiful People’ by People magazine, and one of America’s ’10 Sexiest Athletes’ by Esquire. In 2009, she and her now-separated pro surfer husband welcomed a baby boy named Spike.

Carrie Small
The 5′ 10′ Carrie Small has been introduced to us as the ‘Hottest Mom of the Lingerie Football League’, and really, who are we to argue? The 32-year-old hottie, who plays for the Tampa Bay Breeze, has a 10-year-old son, but what we really like about Carrie is that she plays football – in her lingerie! You can’t get any better than that.

Gisele Bundchen
We knew that whenever one of the hottest women in the world got pregnant, she would automatically be guaranteed a place on this list. Gisele is clearly that woman, and one could almost hear the collective gasp of shock and admiration around the world when Gisele regained her famous bod just months after giving birth to Benjamin Reid Brady.

Kate Moss
Motherhood hasn’t slowed Kate Moss down one bit. The mother of Lila Grace Moss has seen her profile rise once more in a year that has seen her get hitched in a much hyped wedding to rocker Jamie Hince, and walk the runway for brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

Miranda Kerr
Just like Gisele, Miranda became the object of many a woman’s envy when she flaunted her curvier, sexier figure on the most public stage of all – the Victoria’s Secret runway – almost immediately after giving birth to son Flynn with hubby Orlanda Bloom. Judging by the way she strutted down that runway, Miranda was definitely aware of how banging she looked.

Gwen Stefani
The rockstar mum keeps it real when it comes to keeping her body yummy, “Maintaining my post-baby body is a daily struggle. I’d like to have no rules and eat what I want, but I’ve learned over the years that I’m so disappointed when I can’t wear the clothes I want to wear.”

Jessica Alba
How did the actress get back her incredible body after baby no. 2? By working out even while pregnant and doing 45 minutes of cardio every day. Of course, it also helps to be a Hollywood star with calorie-controlled meals delivered on a daily basis.

Kate Beckinsale
Could the secret to Kate Beckinsale’s beauty be tea? The actress reportedly starts each day with 4 cups of green tea and has a realistic view on maintaining her figure. She says, “I’m not aiming to be Gisele. And I’d hate to be one of those people who won’t allow themselves a slice of birthday cake.”

Jennifer Lopez
Maybe having a boyfriend 18 years her junior helps J. Lo retain that youthful glow. That aside, the diva admits that she works hard to maintain her body with diet and exercise.

Celebrity Fashion: Celebrities in optical illusion dresses

Everyone from Victoria Beckham to Kim Kardashian has been spotted in an optical illusion dress. Here we look at the best.

Celebrity fashion: Kim Kardashian has some gorgeous curves which are only complimented by this white dress with black detailing.

Celebrity fashion: The white and black optical illusion dress is clearly a favourite of Kim Kardashian’s – and we can see why. Gorge.

Celebrity fashion: We know Kate Moss is a model and everything, but we cannot get over how stunning she looks in this cutaway dress. We’re seriously swooning.

Celebrity fashion: Model Yasmin Le Bon went for the full-length version of Kate Moss’ optical illusion dress. We think it’s just as striking.

Celebrity fashion: Alicia Keys also adopted the simple monochrome look.

Celebrity fashion: Amy Childs launched her Spring/Summer 2012 clothing collection, including this summery pink and black optical illusion dress. We love the bright colour and can picture it with sky-high heels on a night out.

Celebrity fashion: Kate Winslet shows how to work the red carpet in this stunning cream Stella McCartney optical illusion dress. The neutral tones look amazing with her blonde hair and English rose skin.

Celebrity fashion: Kate Winslet has also worn this stunning red and black optical illusion dress. With amazing curves like hers, the look is a winner every time.

Celebrity fashion: Kate Winslet cannot get enough of her Stella McCartney optical illusion dresses. This polka dot number has become iconic.

Celebrity fashion: Gloria Estefan donned the same Stella McCartney dress as Kate Winslet, but teamed hers with a cream bolero.

Celebrity fashion: Victoria Beckahm donned this optical illusion dress way back in 2009. What a trend setter.

Celebrity fashion: Dionne Bromfield told Yahoo! omg! recently that she won’t be dressing provocatively until she’s at least 18. We think her sense of style is perfect.

TOWIE’s Frankie Essex wore this cream optical illusion dress which looked similar to Kate Winslet’s – except without the whopping designer price tag!

Celebrity fashion: We like that Liv Tyler made a move away from monochrome optical illusion dresses, choosing a blue one instead.

Celebrity fashion: A little more subtle than some of the other optical illusion offerings, Penelope Cruz went for this navy blue dress with a velvet section in the middle and black panelling at the sides. It matches her skin tone perfectly.

Celebrity fashion: Following in Penelope Cruz’s footsteps, Louise Redknapp donned the same navy blue optical illusion dress for an event.

Celebrity fashion: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked utterly gorgeous in her monochrome optical illusion number.

Celebrity fashion: TOWIE’s Sam Faiers tried out the look on a recent night out. Instead of simple monochrome, Sam went for a pretty printed dress.

Most Stylish Celebrity Mums & Daughters

Zoe Kravitz & Lisa Bonet

A young Lisa Bonet found fame in The Cosby Show; fast forward 18 years, and Zoe Kravitz – her daughter to rocker Lenny – was following in her well-shod footsteps. But the X Men starlet wasn’t always so enamoured with her ultra-hip parents, she has admitted. “I used to be a little embarrassed by how she and my dad would dress, but now I steal their clothes all the time,” she recently told ASOS magazine. “My dad has totally taken my Cat Stevens T-shirt, but it’s OK – I have his Black Flag one, and that’s amazing.” Oh, Zoe.

Georgia May Jagger & Jerry Hall

It was never going to be a huge shock that Texan super Jerry Hall would breed beautiful daughters with Rolling Stone Mick Jagger. First, it was eldest Elizabeth who followed her mum down the catwalk and right now it’s gap-toothed younger sister, Georgia May, stealing the spotlight – indeed, she and Jerry even shot an H&M campaign together last year. “She’s given me a bit of a revival,” Jerry Hall joked at the time about her daughter’s fame.

Zahara Jolie-Pitt & Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie famously steers away from the fickle mores of the fashion world, sticking to wearing the few select labels she loves. But there is one girl in her bustling household who can’t get enough: daughter Zahara. Not content with dressing up in Stella McCartney Kids dresses and paying homage to her ultra-chic mum in tailored coats (as right, at LAX), the seven-year-old was recently spotted with cobalt blue braids weaved into her hair. A young Willow Smith in the making, perhaps? Speaking of whom…

Willow Smith & Jada Pinkett-Smith

The ladies in Will Smith’s life are quite the golden girls when it comes to style and success. Not content with topping the charts at a mere nine years old (even if you tell us you haven’t whipped your hair back and forth, we won’t believe you), all eyes are on Willow now as she hops from front row to premiere, leaving grown-ups open-mouthed with her eye-popping outfits and super-confident manner. US fashion designer Derek Lam is a fan, describing Willow as “naturally talented, charismatic, unblemished optimism, with the whole wide world open to her possibilities and abilities,” and professing: “I think she is the future-forward American icon.” Praise indeed.

Harper Seven & Victoria Beckham

After three boys, Victoria Beckham made no secret about how much she was hoping her fourth pregnancy would produce a girl – and a girl she had. Little Harper Seven had an auspicious entrance into the world, attending her first high-profile functions at New York Fashion Week in her first few weeks, and her wardrobe is already coming close to rivalling that of her famous mum’s. “We went in to Prada yesterday and she loved it,” Victoria told reporters in January. “It was as if she was saying, ‘Mummy, I’m home!’”

Amber & Yasmin Le Bon

Amber Le Bon’s modelling career began at the age of 20 months, when mum Yasmin carried her down the Chanel catwalk in her arms. Now an adult, she’s still not tired of hitting the runways with her famous ma – or heeding her words of motherly wisdom, either. “A tip for looking ‘picture perfect’ is probably a smile. I think everyone looks better when they are happy, you give off a glow – or at least that is what my mum would say!”

Suri Cruise & Katie Holmes

“I know I look good when Suri asks if she can have my outfit when she’s older,” Katie Holmes has previously admitted of her high heel-wearing, handbag-toting toddler. “[She] has been choosing her own outfits since she was two. Suri is magical when it comes to clothes – she’s quite an artist!” With a wardrobe that was estimated to be worth £2 million when she was just three years old, it’s little wonder that Suri’s a true fashionista in the making.

Bee Schaffer & Anna Wintour

Being the daughter of the most powerful editor in the world, you’d think that Bee Schaffer would be peachy keen to follow in mum Anna Wintour’s Louboutin-shod footsteps. Not so. “I really don’t want to work in fashion. It’s just not for me,” the 24-year-old Colombia student famously declared in The September Issue. “I respect her, obviously, but it’s just a really weird industry… People in there act like fashion is life. It’s really amusing, but if that’s your career – there are other things out there, seriously. I think I want to be a lawyer.” Still, we’ll never tire of seeing the two in their finest, polishing up the front row.

Tabitha Hodge & Marion Loretta Broderick & Sarah Jessica Parker

Twin cuties Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta never fail to cause a stir when out and about with mum Sarah Jessica Parker – despite the actress being candid about the differences between her and her clothes plate alter ego, Carrie Bradshaw. “Bradshaw’s life is nothing – nothing – like mine,” she said in a recent interview with American Vogue. “I loved playing her, and it changed my life in lots of wonderful ways, but I’m not a crazy shoe lady, I don’t think about fashion all day long, although I have a great respect for the industry.” There’s no denying that innate sense of style, however – something we’d be happy to wager is in the genes.

Malia & Michelle Obama

How beautiful is this candid shot of Malia Obama and mumma Michelle Obama? Of course, there’s someone missing from the frame – Malia’s equally stylish older sister, Sacha. The pair have quite the role model in the J.Crew-loving First Lady who admits that, for her, fashion these days is less about fun and more about avoiding blushes: “My day-to-day wardrobe choices are very practical. I’m like, ‘What’s the temperature?’ ‘Am I going to be sitting in the grass?’ ‘Will I be playing with kids?’ ‘Can I sit on the floor?’ If I bend over, I’m worrying about that embarrassing shot.”

Gwyneth Paltrow & Blythe Danner

Before she became a stylish mum, Gwyneth Paltrow was the daughter of one: super-stylish actress Blythe Danner. In an interview with Parade.com last year, Blythe revealed the advice she’d passed on to Gwyn when she became a mother herself. “Only take the projects that mean the most to you, and try to be there as much as you can,” was number one on her list. “You have to balance it. She has a wonderful husband, as I did, and we used to take turns to make sure we used to take turns to make sure that neither of us were both gone at the same time. She’s an extraordinary mom, and I’m proud of her for the great mothering she’s doing.” Plus, Apple’s pretty much genetically guaranteed to be gorgeous – some kids get all the luck.

Lourdes Leon & Madonna

At the tender age of 15, Lourdes Leon already designs her own fashion line and writes a fashion blog – but then, who expected the daughter of the original Material Girl to be an underachiever? Lourdes admits that the duo are always pushing each other to do better, particularly when it comes to clothes. “Everyday, I will be like, ‘Mom, you can’t wear that.’ Or she will be like, ‘Lola, you can’t wear that.’ A lot of the time we don’t listen to each other, but sometimes we do.”

Rumer Willis & Demi Moore

They’ve been going through a tough time of late, but Demi Moore and her aspiring actress daughter Rumer – her eldest to ex-husband Bruce Willis – have an enviably close relationship (not to mention looks that are more akin to sisters, rather than women separated by a generation). Who could forget the moment during the 2009 Golden Globes when Demi pronounced from the stage: “Ru, I’m very proud of you and I love you. And don’t hunch. Shoulders back!” Pure sweetness.

Lila Grace & Kate Moss

Although Kate Moss tends to keep her young daughter Lila Grace out of the public glare, she made an exception last year when the two posed together for a Mario Testino shoot for American Vogue to promote Kate’s latest fragrance, Lilabelle. “Lilabelle is my most personal fragrance yet, inspired by my daughter Lila,” the super said. “It is a really soft and gentle scent yet also a bit daring.” Unsurprisingly, considering her pedigree (papa Jefferson Hack is the editor of too-cool-for-school fashion mag Dazed & Confused), Lila was an absolute natural in front of the lens.

Peaches & Pixie Geldof & Paula Yates

Paula Yates will be forever remembered as an 80s style icon and, although she died while her children were still young, daughters Peaches Honeyblossom and Pixie Geldof have also embraced the world of celebrity, making names for themselves respectively on the London fashion circuit. Earlier this year, Peaches announced that was pregnant to her muso boyfriend Tom Cohen; their baby is due to be born on Paula’s birthday.

Kate & Carole Middleton

With daughter Kate marrying into one of the most prestigious families in the world, the style spotlight invariably fell on mater Carole Middleton, too. There has been much speculation about the length of the glamorous former air hostess’ hemlines but, appropriateness issues aside, there’s no mistaking where Kate gets her fabulous pins from. In her famous pre-wedding interview with her then-husband-to-be, Kate made us all go misty-eyed when she gushed how she’d enjoyed such a happy family life and hoped to replicate that with William. Talk about a fashion fairytale.

Kate Hudson & Goldie Hawn

No list of stylish mums and daughters would be complete without Hollywood bombshells Goldie Hawn and her super-star daughter, Kate Hudson. Ah, super-stardom. How does Kate cope with it? “If I want to draw attention to myself, put on heels and a tight dress and do my hair up, then I can. But I can also tone it down,” she explained in a 2010 interview with the Daily Telegraph. “For me, I’d go crazy if I couldn’t go out and walk in the streets. I learnt some of that from my mum. She is so recognisable. She’s just so Goldie! When I was a girl I would get embarrassed and say: ‘Mum, put a hat on or something.’”

Kaia Gerber & Cindy Crawford

We all know that Cindy Crawford is one of the most beautiful women in the world – so it was something as a shock to hear that her daughter Kaya Gerber’s fledgling modelling career makes her feel a little insecure. “I look at my daughter and I’m like, ‘You have my old skin and I want it back! You have my old legs, I want them back! You have my old hair, I want it back!’ She is just getting more and more beautiful and, you know. But at the same time, there’s so much good that comes with it. And I think if you’re happy in your life, it’s a lot easier to take.” Well, Kaya’s Versace campaign was pretty impressive…

Dree & Mariel Hemingway

GLAMOUR.com girl crush Dree Hemingway has a flawless pedigree: she is the daughter of Academy award-nominated actress Mariel Hemingway (if you haven’t seen Woody Allen’s Manattan, do so immediatey), as well as the niece of model Margaux Hemingway and the great-granddaughter of legendary scribe Ernest. The blonde, blue-eyed beauty has walked the runways for everyone from Givenchy to Chanel – in contrast to her self-professed ‘tomboy’ of a mother, who once revealed that her young life was spent following “dusty trails and boulder-filled avalanche chutes up to the high places”.

Charlotte Gainsbourg & Jane Birkin

When Jane Birkin gave birth to Charlotte, her daughter with legendary French musician Serge Gainsbourg, they were the Victoria Beckham and Harper Seven of their day (as this beautiful vintage shot testifies). The fashion standing of both maybe indisputable but, in true ultra-cool style, the now grown-up Charlotte is non-plussed by it all: “Style for me is a casual way of putting something on. It’s not thought out but needs to suit your way of life. Now I like wearing the same sweater over and over again, then taking it off when it’s smelly.”

Honor Warren & Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba is famous for her street style and her daughter, Honor Warren, is well on her way to following in her mum’s footsteps. The three-year-old favours girly skirts, denim jackets and is rarely seen without a pair of ballet pumps on her feet. Give it time, though, and she’ll be sporting the skinny jeans that Jess so loves, for sure.

Daisy & Pearl Lowe

Daisy Lowe and her mother Pearl have long shared a love of fashion – but they have more in common than just looking uber-stylish. The mother and daughter both designed ranges for troubled high street brand, Peacocks, with Daisy concentrating on swimwear (which she also modelled, natch), and Pearl working on women’s and children’s collection.

Coco Sumner & Trudie Styler

Being the daughter of Trudie Styler and Sting, Coco Sumner was never going to be anything but achingly cool. But, while we lust after her rock chick get-ups, Coco – a singer – says she’s not particularly into fashion. In fact, she has been known to declare: “I hate Fashion Week.” OK, then.

Julia Restoin-Roitfeld & Carine Roitfeld

And so to another Voguette, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld, whose mum is former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld. Julia got her taste of the fashion world very young, appearing in a Mario Testino shoot for Vogue Bambini when she was just 10. As you do. Now fully grown up, she has continued into the industry, carving a well-appointed niche for herself both in front of and behind the lens.

Elettra Wiedemann & Isabella Rosselini

With her pixie hair and full lips, Isabella Rosselini epitomised Italian chic in the 80s – and her daughter is busy doing the same in the here and now. Elettra Wiedemann scored her first modelling contract (for Abercrombie & Finch, no less), while still at school, and has starred in Vogue, as well as scoring a season as the face of Salvatore Ferragamo.

Update your wardrobe for Spring/Summer 2012 in five steps

Be stylish this season!

Getting ready for Spring/Summer 2012 needn’t involve a complete wardrobe overhaul, so here are five simple steps on what to buy, what to ditch and what to keep for the coming months.

Era to embody: 1920s

Already one of the most talked about films of 2012 despite not being scheduled for release until December, fashionistas will be getting in the mood for Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby during the spring and summer months. Gucci led the way at its Spring/Summer 2012 show with geometric print flapper dresses, while the Jazz Age was a key influence at the Etro show. Ralph Lauren was also enamored with the flapper style, with fringed skirts, elaborate beading on dresses, and cloche hats dominating its Spring/Summer 2012 presentation.

Image: Flapper dresses at Gucci

Image: Ralph Lauren’s Spring 2012 runway show featured 1920s-inspired items such as cloche hats.

Motif to embrace: floral

There are certain motifs we know will re-emerge season after season (nautical, lace, floral), and for Spring/Summer 2012 flowers are particularly prevalent. Colorful bloom prints were all over the catwalk, ranging from the iridescent creations adorned with multicolored blooms at Christopher Kane to the broderie anglaise Louis Vuitton frock sported by Lana Del Rey on the cover of UK Vogue’s March issue. Floral pieces from the Vuitton collection have also been seen on covers including British Elle (by Alexa Chung) to Vogue Japan (by Kate Moss). For the coming months, Paul Smith is offering cropped eafloral blazers, Diane von Furstenberg leaf-print pants, while 7 For All Mankind is offering floral print denim and Uniqlo has teamed up with English fashion and lifestyle brand Laura Ashley for a Spring 2012 collection comprising floral prints, T-shirts, stoles, and tunics.

Item to keep from Fall/Winter 11/12: anything leather

One of the biggest revelations to emerge from the Spring/Summer 2012 shows was that leather is no longer the reserve of the winter months — with labels including Hermès, Céline, Balmain and Margiela all championing the material in its various forms. Winter’s leather shorts minus tights and teamed with a sheer blouse makes for an on-trend Spring/Summer 2012 look à la 3.1 Phillip Lim. However, if you do want to invest in something new in the material, lighter tones and minimalist cuts provide a far less wintery aesthetic — Topshop has a variety of neon colored leather jackets for Spring/Summer 2012.

Item to revive from Spring/Summer 2011: the pleated skirt

The influence of ballet thriller Black Swan on the fashion world for Spring/Summer 2011 saw an array of balletic silhouettes dominating the catwalk, and fashionistas who invested in the ubiquitous pleated skirt will be glad to know it’s back for another season. This style ruled the runways at Spring/Summer 2012 shows including Chloé, Etro and Erdem, and can be easily updated for the coming months. For example, combining with a crop top (big news at Spring/Summer 2012 presentations including Versace/D&G and Alexander Wang) will offer an edgier take on the style. Meanwhile, high street retailers including H&M have their own take on the trend, with pleated pencil skirts among the highlights for the coming months.

Items to swap: forget skinny slacks, go wide leg

Since their re-emergence in the early 2000s, slimline slacks have become a wardrobe staple and despite the palazzo pant’s brief moment in the spotlight for Spring/Summer 2011, wide leg trousers have been left in the sidelines. But this is all about to change for Spring/Summer 2012, after labels ranging from Nina Ricci to L.A.M.B. and Roksanda Illincic went for slouchy, ultra wide trousers — many with a high waist. The look has taken to the high street too, from retailers such as Maje to more mass-market brands including H&M picking up on the trend for Spring/Summer 2012. This look works best pared down with a simple T-shirt and ballerina shoes. Petite ladies should add wedges to avoid being swamped by all the excess material.

The trend to try now… HATS

Hats are still popping up the runways for Fall 12 so rest assured there is still plenty of time to enjoy them later this year. However this is the perfect time now – trans-seasoning – to try this trend. It’s the perfect time coming out of winter into spring where is still cool but you need some light shading from the early spring sunlight. And perfect coming out of summer into autumn as the days start to cool but sunny enough for hats.

I’ve taken to this myself as it just goes that extra mile for an outfit and really does help when the sun is out but its a little cool. It works with almost anything – jeans and tee, or with a blouse. And for almost any occassion – the weekend brunch, stroll with your dog, or because you really just need to cover up when going without any make up running errands. Above are my interpretations on the fedora with items found in shops this month (feb 2012).

Felt fedoras hats to be precise. Celebs love it for down time cool and especially as a cover up in (airport) transit! See who loves a good hat – from starlets, actresses, top models and veteren hat wearers Nicole Richie and Kate Moss - need I say anymore!

Fashion Christmas: Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Sadie Frost get in the festive spirit at Stylish Primrose Hill Fair

Kate Moss was spotted at the Primrose Hill Christmas Fair

Kate Moss led the style set of Primrose Hill yesterday, joining fashion types Alexa Chung, Sadie Frost and Pixie Geldof at a Christmas Fair. The event was held to raise money for the village’s Christmas lights after Camden Council refused to stump up cash.

Kate was spotted hanging out on a balcony with Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw, both of them watching live performances from the safety of a beer garden.

Fellow ‘fahsion’ types Alexa Chung, Nick Grimshaw and Pixie Geldof showed their support too.
The 37-year-old model also joined fashion BFs (and fellow models turned designers) Sadie Frost and Alexa Chung – both of whom looked stylishly snug in cosy coats and winter scarves. Mother-of-four Sadie Frost performed at the event.

Gail Porter was kicking off Christmas Primrose Hill-style too, while Pixie looked snug in UGGs

Alexa is currently championing the success of her collection for Madewell which includes 70s-silk shirts, lace tops and Chung-favourite block platforms. The line has proved so popular it crashed the brand’s site.

Alexa tweeted fans: “Congrats! You crashed the @madewell937 website with the purchase onslaught. Glad you like it! Xxxx”.

The model proved she’s just like us (ish) by heading home after the fair to watch the X Factor live results show. Only she was joined by fellow celeb’ Nick Grimshaw, who tweeted pics of them watching the live results show.

Unlike us, Alexa is set to hit the red carpet tonight for the British Fashion Awards, that’s if she sorts the “Brillo head disaster” she tweeted about earlier this morning.

Everyone’s Wearing… 70s

Elle Macpherson

If you want people to pay attention, throwing on a yellow jumpsuit and styling it to the 70s hilt is a good way to go about it. Elle Macpherson helped her new reality TV show, Fashion Star, to hit international headlines when she was papped during filming in this flared mustard silk all-in-one and gold Lara Bohinc necklace.

Brooklyn Decker

For the German premiere of her film Just Go With It, Brooklyn Decker managed to achieve the seemingly unachievable – stealing in limelight from co-star Jennifer Aniston. Her secret? A show-stopping, split-leg purple jumpsuit by Max Mara worn, in true 70s style, without a bra.

Angela Lindvall

At the super-starry Christie’s Green Auction in NYC, model Angela Lindvall channelled 70s glamour in this black halterneck gown with silver sequin streaks.

Olivia Palermo

Never one to let a trend pass by untried, The Hills star Olivia Palermo wore this button-down peach Mango maxi dress with a tan belt to a fashion show thrown by the high street label in March.

Katie Holmes

A classic camel coat teamed with flared jeans, suede boots and a satin shirt is the perfect, subtle take on 70s casual. If we know Katie Holmes – and we think we do, fashion-wise – we’ll bet she’s hiding an on-trend high waistline under there, too.

Dakota Fanning

You’d be forgiven for thinking you’d stepped back in time if you saw Dakota Fanning strolling around LA, like the ultimate 70s ingénue, in her straw trilby, crochet cardigan, denim flares and wooden platforms.

Florence Welch

Top-to-toe in new season Chanel, Florence Welch clearly has her finger on the 70s fashion pulse.

Nicole Richie

Nicole Richie’s penchant for boho makes her a natural 70s fit. This floral cape look, which the TV-star-turned-designer wore to the Jean Paul Gaultier show at Paris Fashion Week in March, is one of our absolute favourite of hers, ever.

Kylie Minogue

Nothing says 70s more than a tiered maxi and tottering platform heels. Kylie Minogue is our go-to girl for sweet summer day looks.

Miranda Kerr

Miranda Kerr’s plunge-front Balenciaga maxi dress hit the 70s nail square on the head – as do her open-toe sandals, suede clutch bag and natural make-up.

Alexa Chung

You bet that fashion rule-breaker Alexa Chung can pull off a 70s style. There are no floor-scraping hemlines to be seen here, though – instead, Ms Chung makes the trend her own in a sweet, peasant-style smock dress (by Chanel, nonetheless).

Claudia Schiffer

Claudia Schiffer is a serial 70s style stalker. Her key pieces of choice? Printed neckerchiefs, embroidered peasant skirts, high-waisted denim flares and bug-eye sunglasses.

Eva Longoria

Eva Longoria wouldn’t look out of place if she stumbled into Studio 54 circa 1978 in this all-black, silk-and-sequins jumpsuit.

Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum took on the 70s trend in a tobacco-coloured, high-necked, wide-legged, key-hole cutout jumpsuit – and, sadly, we’re not sure she won.

Leighton Meester

Gossip Girl Leighton Meester looks a 70s dream in her psychedelic Marc Jacobs dress.

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus channels the indomitable fashion spirit of Stevie Nicks in her fringed, floral shawl. Poptastic!

Shenae Grimes

Fringed sleeves, a cutaway front and a floor-skimming hemline; Shenae Grimes ticks all the 70s revival boxes in her black maxi.

Claire Danes

There’s more than a touch of 70s style icon Bianca Jagger about Claire Danes in this sleek Calvin Klein tuxedo dress.

Camilla Belle

Gucci put one of the season’s strongest 70s showings on the catwalk and Camilla Belle captured the spirit of it perfectly, top-to-toe in the label’s glamorous brights.

Fergie

Diane Von Furstenberg was one of the original 70s icons – so it’s little wonder that Fergie chose to channel the designer’s style as she attended her autumn/winter 2011 fashion show in New York.

Rose McGowan

Rose McGowan was boogie-ready at the SAG awards thanks to her hot pink, 70s-inspired plunge-front gown.

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood scored a serious style hit in this peasant-style Gucci dress and knee-high leather boots on the promo trail for her new film The Conspirator.

Isabel Lucas

How wide can you go? Isabel Lucas took the 70s to the streets when she was papped out and about in these monumental flares.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens demonstrated precisely why the 70s is the era of choice for festival fashionistas in this cute flower power-inspired look at Coachella.

Karen Elson

Halterneck? Tick. Print? Tick. All-in-one? Tick. Karen Elson got it right on all fronts at Marc Jacobs’ autumn/winter 2011 show.

Paris Hilton

With her hair braid, tie-die maxi and glitzy gold cover-up, Paris Hilton made the perfect 70s statement on the streets of LA.

VV Brown

Singer VV Brown looked 70s-tastic in this gold lame maxi dress with contrasting high neck and deep cuffs at the Prince’s Trust Awards.

Kate Moss

Never one to let a trend pass her by (though, admittedly, she’s long since been an ‘out’ 70s devotee), Kate Moss rocked this long-sleeved pink maxi dress and sheepskin gilet for lunch at luxe London eatery The Wolseley. We’re giving her a bonus point for that scarf tied onto her handbag, too.

Tess Daly

Tess Daly killed two trends with one outfit at the TRIC Awards. Her split-leg MaxMara jumpsuit ticks both the 70s and tangerine boxes.

Lindsay Lohan

Night fever! Lindsay Lohan appeared to be channelling a young John Travolta in this pair of high-waisted white flares recently.

Celebrity Trends: Checked Shirts

It may seem slightly ironic that while celebs are out-doing each other in the glamour stakes at Cannes (what with Eva Herzigova blinging away in Atelier Versace and Diane Kruger working a zillion high fashion looks) that our attention turns to downtime dressing. But, as we all know there’s nothing quite like comfortable clothing, especially when approaching festival season.

These days, Hollywood’s top stars are favouring checked shirts for their off-duty days. Worn over tees, dresses, shorts and jeans, they prove to be totally versatile with a western kick that works well for spring. With Heidi’s fourth child on the way, she has become somewhat of a pro at downtime dressing. Seen here working indigo slim leg jeans a baggy T-shirt and studded flats, Heidi adds a touch of style with her blue and white checked shirt.

Kate Hudson casually strolls around Manhattan mixing elements of her signature laid-back California style with a cool New York basics. The fringed bag and turquoise cuff lend a boho vibe to the basic Converse-jeans-checked shirt combo.

If Jessica Biel has learnt anything from her super sexy beau, Justin Timberlake, it’s the art of casual dressing.
Seen here strolling around New York, Biel takes a break from red carpet attire, donning a simple pair of black leggings, grey tee and cute flats. This off-duty uniform is given instant style status with a checked topper, styled with rolled sleeves and single button fastening for that just-got-out-of-bed feel.

Beyoncé mixes tomboy charm with girlie glamour while celebrating her one-year wedding anniversary in New York. The cute braces worn over a fitted plaid shirt with stomping heels look hip and happening.

InStyle Tip

When choosing a fitted shirt, make sure you allow room for your breasts to breathe – gaps and button pops are never a good look.

Anne Hathaway casually co-ordinates a fitted red and navy checked shirt with denim cut-offs and bright red canvas pumps.

InStyle Tip

When working a pair of hot pants, a checked shirt is perfect for downplaying your look (you want to look cool not crass), while colourful flats add a playful edge.

Kate adds a touch of country-girl charm to her all-black ensemble with farmer boy checks. The cuff and collar keep Kate’s look casual while the black blazer and boots are suitably chic, creating a classic work wear look.

Israeli beauty Bar Rafaeli covers up her enviable curves with colourful checks, boyfriend slacks and flats. We heart the way Bar tucks in her shirt and artfully rolls up her sleeves, instantly smartening her down-time look.

Supe Claudia Schiffer accessories her new fringe with a cropped checked shirt and suede boots for a wild west look. The cute cardi and hands-free satchel ensure Claudia’s look is suitably fashion-forward.

Kate Moss wears the checkered shirt trend

We pointed out the other day that checkered shirts, which used to be the domain of truckers, farmers and lumberjacks, are now in vogue. Kate Moss was snapped out and about in the Cotswolds this week wearing a checked shirt of her own, teamed with skinny jeans, aviators, a cardigan and flat boots.

One-shoulder clothing trend

Celebrities We’ve Seen The One-Shoulder Trend On

Lisa Ho A/W 2011

Look closely and you’ll notice that actress Anna Friel isn’t just wearing any old little black dress. The dress is made up of three dimensional textured triangles, combined with the sheer trend in the form of a one shoulder overlay.

Recently anointed Miss Universe Stefania Fernandez attends the 10th Annual Latin Grammy awards in the one shoulder dress trend. The dress has one long sleeve, and an embellished silver and copper beaded shoulder piece.

Kate Moss

Pairing the one shoulder trend with the omnipresent sheer trend, Cindy Crawford showed off her still impressive figure at a party at George Clooney’s house.

We’d spotted Mandy Moore in the same Preen dress and we decidedly gave her the thumbs up. Who do you think wore it better – Cindy or Mandy?

We’ve always had a soft spot for Mandy Moore, Tania even more-so. Sadly it has to be conceded that her sense of style went through a rough patch whether it was for the wrong fashion picks, or simply gaining weight. In fact, she’s only appeared on our radar once, that time it was for a very sexy vamp look.

But with a new hair style, and a sexy-as-hell use of the sheer clothing trend this may just be a Mandy Moore come-back.

An elegant look it is Charlize and, yes, you look gorgeous. But despite it’s one shouldered sexiness; wedge heels and under accessorising take the overall look down more than one notch.

Featured in the first episode of our fashion podcast, this one-shoulder ruffle dress from Antonia Paris may just be the perfect bold statement piece for Spring/Summer 2009.

Lindsay Lohan in see-through, one-shoulder top

Having filmed a segment for her new TV show (which we’re unlikely to ever watch) there earlier in the night, US heiress cum socialite Paris Hilton cut a sexy figure when she to London’s Cuckoo Club in this one-shouldered, see-through little black dress.

Sadly wearing just a tad too much bronzer, but not enough to put Lindsay Lohan’s fake tan to shame, British actress Catherine Zeta Jones partook in the one-shoulder fashion trend recently.

The Gaultier dress on the runway (left) and on Gwyneth Paltrow.

Normally more a ‘girl next door’ than current fashion trends follower, Jennifer Hawkins never-the-less partook in the single-shoulder fashion trend at yesterday’s launch of 30 Days of Fashion and Beauty.

Showing off one shoulder in an asymmetrical dress is one of the year’s hottest trends. Claudia Schiffer apparently loves the single-shoulder trend so much that she wore this Versace number in not one, but two, colours.

Doutzen Kroes has spent the better part of 2008 globe-trotting, all the while looking fabulous while doing it. Back in May the supermodel could be found in Cannes, attending the best showings and parties the Cannes Film Festival had to offer. Naturally she was perfectly on trend wearing a single-shouldered dress to a photo call at the Martinez Hotel.

More asymmetry. Heidi Klum looked sexy and sleek in a black one-shouldered dress, teaming it with an opposingly asymmetrical belt. The whole impression is of a zig-zag line from shoulder to waist and back to hem. The single-shouldered dress trend has really taken off this season and is still going strong. What do you think of Heidi’s look?

Alexis Bledel attended the premiere of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 last week wearing the single-shouldered dress trend. Alexis teamed her black one-shouldered number with a gold clutch and black strappy heels.

Your Fashion Future

If You Loved…Black Lace

Romantic but super sexy, black lace was everybody’s favourite choice for high-octane partywear this Christmas. Emma Watson went gothic on the red carpet in this sultry number, the high street was awash with über-cool bargain alternatives, and the autumn catwalks –from Dolce & Gabbana to Donna Karan – saw plenty of action from this ultra-glam fabric, too.

You Should Try…Spring’s Lace

The Catwalk Inspiration: Erdem (pictured), Christopher Kane, Alberta Ferretti, Dolce & Gabbana

Lace lovers needn’t worry – while the midnight shades will look too dressy when spring swings around, there’s a whole new palette of colours to play with. Go for confident reds á la Erdem if you dare, or vintage-look nudes as seen at Dolce & Gabbana.

If You Loved…Red Dresses

From very tuned-in statement pops of colour on heels, handbags and scarves to bold, look-at-me dresses in scarlet, tomato, claret and cherry, red was the colour to be noticed in this season.

You Should Try…Tangerine

The Catwalk Inspiration: Prada (pictured), Cacharel, Giambattista Valli, Christian Dior, Marni

Bear with us on this one! Though orange might not initially seem like the most appealing of wardrobe shades, we saw it all over the spring catwalks worked in all kinds of cool ways. Our favourite? Invest in a little fake bake, then rock this colour as a tropical print dress with contrasting hot pink and turquoise accessories.

If You Loved…Camel Colours

The coat of this season? It has to be the classic camel number: eternally chic, works with everything – it was the best investment buy of the last six months! And that’s not where the craze stopped either – serious stylists were trying out the trend as 70s-inspired trousers and sweaters, too…

You Should Try…Neon Brights

The Catwalk Inspiration: Christopher Kane (pictured), Jil Sander, Acne, Celine, Jason Wu, DKNY, Versace

…Buuut, what better way to forget winter’s grey days than spring’s mega brights. No, this isn’t neons the nu rave way – for 2011 acid hued pieces are taking a grown-up turn. Look out for ladylike dresses and cropped jackets in sunshine shades, or have a go at matching zingy trousers or shorts with a simple white or grey tee.

If You Loved…Minimalism

Understated luxury, pared-back chic and unassuming elegance were all buzzphrases for winter – think Calvin Klein’s no-frills approach to dressing. Celebs like Angelina and rival Jennifer Aniston loved this trend’s grown-up feel and its muted palette of greys, navies, blacks and nudes.

You Should Try…Crisp Whites

The Catwalk Inspiration: Practically all of them! Our top tips include DSquared (pictured), Stella McCartney, Fendi and Michael Kors

Those of us with a hankering for even more simplicity will have found it in this spring’s obsession with utilitarian whites. Forget the floaty, peasant numbers of the Sienna Miller days, because we’re talking futurism this spring – clean lines, and sharp, crisp and precisely tailored pieces.

If You Loved…Shearling

Before autumn had even started, we couldn’t move without seeing a forward-thinking lady sporting one of these aviator-style leather jackets, and, inspired by Alexa Chung, Nicola Roberts and the Burberry models, the trend carried on well into the end of last year.

You Should Try…Spring Leather

The Catwalk Inspiration: Balmain (pictured), Gucci, Celine

For a similar rock chick, Kate Moss vibe, have a go at working leather as the weather warms up. It doesn’t have to be hot ‘n’ sticky: skintight styles are totally passé anyway, so snap up loose-fitting shorts, skater-esque skirts and sleeveless tank tops which can be layered over knitted tights and sweaters until the sun starts coming out.

If You Loved…Animal Print

The leopard print faux fur coat’s become a winter staple in the GLAMOUR.COM girls’ wardrobes, but that’s not where this trend ended. Heating up our evening wear, we spotted wild at heart prints on every A-lister from Fearne to Rachel Bilson, and on plenty of mini-dresses and accessories during party season.

You Should Try…Tribal Prints

The Catwalk Inspiration: Diane Von Furstenberg (pictured), Missoni, Derek Lam

Animal print purists will be pleased to know the look’s definitely sticking around for another season, but if you’re into test-driving something new, pick up jumpsuits, harem pants and batwing t-shirts in patterns inspired by every corner of the globe.

If You Loved…English Heritage

Barbour jackets, leather riding boots and cable knits: countryside staples made a comeback this winter, thanks to trend champion Alexa Chung and the über-cool catwalks of Great British institutions Paul Smith and Topshop. Tweeds, plaids, sheepskin and wool all went from musty to must-have in a couple of months.

You Should Try…Tropical Fruit Prints

The Catwalk Inspiration: Moschino Cheap & Chic (pictured), Stella McCartney, Betsey Johnson, Prada

An easy to way to channel the quirkiness of the heritage trend in a spring-friendly way! Delve into a veritable fruit bowl of inspiration – retro banana, orange, lemon and pineapple prints make the coolest finish to this spring’s dresses and short-sleeved shirts.

If You Loved…Maxi Skirts

Even when summer was over, we couldn’t get enough of floor-sweeping hems. The winter way to wear maxis was 90s-style: grunged-up, with chunky work boots, heavy, holey sweaters and faux furs, like Brit It-girls Fearne Cotton and Daisy Lowe.

You Should Try…Mid-Calf Hems

The Catwalk Inspiration: Fendi (pictured), Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu

Change it up by getting in touch with your inner lady (you know, the one who really wouldn’t approve of your slightly chipped nail polish and the run in your tights) and invest in one these utterly feminine, totally timeless numbers. Works best with heels ‘n’ tights or simple sandals when it’s warm.

If You Loved…Mad Men Styling

Whether it was Joan, Peggy or Betty whose style you wanted to steal, the Mad Men effect gave us a retro fabulous winter of swishing circle skirts, cinched in waists and hourglass figures – with Dita Von Teese as the look’s most famous face.

You Should Try…Revisiting The 70s

The Catwalk Inspiration: Salvatore Ferregamo (pictured), Temperley London, Marc Jacobs, Etro

Flares, high-waistbands, floppy hats and headscarves: you better believe it because the 70s is spring/summer 2011’s defining decade. All the most famous silhouettes are back, as are round-rimmed sunnies, big hair and anything that would have worked at Studio 54. Go forth and stock up (or just raid your mum’s wardrobe).

Celebrities in Designer Jeans

Katie Holmes in Paige Premium

Katie Holmes was spotted having some lunch at Urth Cafe in Beverly Hills, California. She wore a pair of Paige Premium High Rise Bell Canyon in Breckinridge for the lunch. I absolutely think this is one of Katie’s best outfits. Everything looks so flattering on her. The jeans fit her perfectly. I even love that her favorite Marant boots peek out at bit at the bottom.

Have any of you readers seen the trailer to Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark? I wonder why many production companies didn’t want to back it up. I thought the movie looked great. Then again they probably have seen the whole movie and not just the trailer. Going by the trailer I think many would want to see it. You can click here to purchase Paige Premium jeans at Singer22.

Gisele Bundchen in Marc Allison

Gisele Bundchen made a stop at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California while out and about running some errands. She looks so casual but so put together, Gisele’s style is always one to look out for.

She was wearing a pair of Marc Allison Shirl classic bell jeans with sandals and a loose tee. It always amazes me how some of these supermodels can wear flared jeans with flats. I actually reviewed these jeans back in the Autumn here and I know they have close to a 35? inseam. I had my highest heels on and they were still hitting the floor! Gisele’s legs must be so long! Buy these jeans at Marc Allison for $180.

Ellen Pompeo in Henry & Belle

Ellen Pompeo and daughter Stella were seen running errands out and about in LA. This past week, the two also met up with Nicole Richie and her daughter, Harlow, for a play date at a local park.

Ellen wore a pair of Henry & Belle Ideal Ankle skinny jeans in White and a chambray shirt. She was also seen wearing her Tom’s again. Toms recently announced that the brand is going to start selling eyeglasses as well, with the same concept of donating one pair for one purchased.

Gwen Stefani in Patchwork Jeans

Gwen Stefani was seen looking around in a toy store and having fun at the park with Kingston in Primrose Hill in London, England last month. It’s taken me a while to post these photos because I have been trying to figure out what the jeans are.

Gwen was wearing a really pretty pair of skinny patchwork jeans for the day but I can’t seem to find the brand. Do any of you readers know what the brand might be? They are so pretty and I love the way they look on her. The patches are not just denim either, they are printed fabric which makes them unique.

Bar Refaeli Covers German GQ in Denim

Bar Refaeli looked absolutely stunning on the cover of GQ Germany. She posed on what looks like a motor bike wheel while holding a helmet. I think it’s a really creative and sexy shoot!

Bar wore a pair of vintage denim shorts for the shoot with heels and a biker jacket. What do you think of the photos? Do you think she looks amazing too? She’s definitely got perfect legs, especially to pull off teeny tiny denim shorts.

Gwen Stefani in a AG Adriano Goldschmied Denim Jacket

Gwen Stefani was snapped by the paps as she was pushing her stroller/pram through a parking lot on her way to The Huntington Library, a museum and the botanical gardens in San Marino, California.

Gwen seems to be a really busy mum which I love about her. She chose to wear her AG Adriano Goldschmied denim jacket again but this time she wore it over a printed maxi dress. I’ve always been fond of the denim jacket over dresses look, it’s casual but it’s tidy. Buy AG Jeans online at Singer22.com.

Christie Brinkley in AG Adriano Goldschmied

Supermodel Christie Brinkley was spotted arriving at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City for her performance as Roxie Hart in Chicago. She wore a pair of the AG Farrah Skinny Crop in Red. I never would have thought that AG would join the color trend, but they have and they have done it amazing. I hope to see more celebrities wearing these out, especially Zoe Saldana. She is the prefect spokesperson for them.

I think this outfit is a bit funky with the colors an shoes going on. I find the blue of the shirt to be an awkward shade to be paired with the jeans. I also do think that the jeans are a bit short for sneakers. Maybe with a different pair of shoes this outfit would look a lot better, in my opinion. Thinking about it Christie is 57! Anyone who looks this good at that age can wear anything if they wanted to.

Who Wore It Best: J Brand Bette Jeans

J Brand’s Bette jean has quickly become a celebrity favorite, with the flattering wide leg and higher rise. Cheryl Cole paired hers with a simple blazer and tee, while Katie Holmes has worn hers in a similar fashion. AnnaLynne McCord showed off the high waist by tucking a blouse in and belting them, Alessandra Ambrosio opted for a more casual look and paired hers with a cropped tee and flip flops, January Jones matched hers with a red plaid tee and shoes, and Emmanuelle Chriqui wore hers on the red carpet with a loose sheer blouse.

Courteney Cox in Paige Premium

Courteney Cox was spotted out with her ex-husband, David Arquette, at The Roosevelt Hotel after his performance of ‘David Arquette Presents Beacher’s Madhouse’ in Los Angeles, California.

She chose to wear her Paige Premium Verdugo jeggings in Coal for the night out. I’m not a huge fan of the ruffled shirt but I love the jeans. I know Courteney is a huge fan of Paige jeans. I hope we see her out in some other styles from the brand soon!

Victoria Justice in J Brand

Victoria Justice posed for photos on the orange carpet at the premiere of Nickelodeon’s iParty with Victorious at The Lot in West Hollywood, California. Miranda Cosgrove also joined Victoria in some photos.

Victoria was wearing a pair of the J Brand 811 mid rise skinny jeans in Bright Turquoise while she hosted the event. I absolutely adore this colour! It’s so fun and pretty! It’s not a colour that’s too bold for easy wearing either! I think Victoria is a beautiful girl too.

Ellen Pompeo in Pray For Mother Nature

Ellen Pompeo was spotted out to lunch with her family in Beverly Hills, California. Ellen switched it up with her jeans and chose to try another different brand for this day. She chose a pair of brown Pray For Mother Nature jeans. I do like the wash of these jeans. We don’t spot brown denim all to often on people.

One other thing that I like is that she paired it with some TOMS. I think what they are doing is amazing, as everyone knows. Her pants just fit the shoes perfectly. I just find that they look a bit awkward on me at times, but they are still great shoes. I love that they have come out with some new styles like the Cardones and Botas.

Jessica Alba in Mama J by J Brand

Jessica Alba was spotted catching a flight at LAX Airport earlier last month. She wore her staple Mama J by J Brand jeans again. This time she opted for the 3401 Maternity Leggings in Pitch. I can see why Jessica chooses these jeans. I haven’t tried their leggings (cannot do without a front pocket), but their regular jeans are really amazing. They are very lightweight and have a tendency to never stretch out.

Jessica part-took in the CFDA awards this year. She will be honoring Hal Rubenstein with the Founders Award. She wore a custom two-tone dress by Diane Von Furstenberg. What did you think of the look? I thought the colors looked great on her.

Mary-Kate Olsen in Custom-Made Jeans By Maxfields LA

Mary-Kate Olsen was spotted in New York after having some lunch. She sported a striped jacket with a white button-up with her custom-made jeans by Maxfields LA. She finished off her look with a bag from her new handbag line for The Row. I do like this outfit. I like all the colors and prints together, even the shoes. The prints are amazing on those. I do just wish the jacket was a bit smaller, or unbuttoned. It looks unintentionally oversized in my opinion.

I think this would be an even more amazing out without the jacket. The shirt underneath looks amazing with the jeans. I’m seriously going through a white button-up/henley phase right now. I love the look of a white button-up, even more than a white tee. They are just one of the most versatile pieces, I find. It can be worn casually rolled up on the sleeves, not buttoned all the way or clean and professional.

Kate Moss in Black Orchid

Ms. Moss was spotted out in her Black Orchid Black Jewel Jeggings in Newton again while out an about in London. Kate finally gave her black tees a rest an opted for a white one this time. I do like the wash of these jeans and the little whiskering here and there. I find them to have that dark blue wash that is very versatile.

I wonder if a regular blue pair of jeans is Kate’s way of joining the colored denim trend? Everyone knows she loathes color most of the time. I guess if you are Kate Moss, no trend really matters. I would like to see her rock some red though. If not denim maybe at least the red leather Balmains or Isabel Marant Soan pants in red.

Megan Fox in Frankie B.

Megan Fox heads to the salon with her family, including Brian Austin Green’s son Kassius. Megan is preparing to head to Abu Dhabi next week to promote the launch of LG Cinema 3D TV. I wonder what else Megan has on tap in terms of projects?

Megan has been wearing her Frankie B destroyed ankle zip skinny jeans quite a bit recently, including to the Lakers play off game a few weeks ago.

Cindy Crawford in J Brand

Cindy Crawford was spotted going to dinner at Katsuya Restaurant in Los Angeles, California. The supermodel herself wore a pair of J Brand 912 in Heritage. I love the wash of these jeans ever since Hilary Duff was spotted wearing the wash in the 811 fit. They have such a rich wash to them.

This is the first time I have seen someone other than Kate Moss carry a Kate Moss x Longchamp collection bag. I like this bag. It is unique. the color of the patches are all very bold, yet they work together.

Jennifer Garner in J Brand

It is nice to finally see Jennifer Garner out with husband Ben Affleck. The two were seen taking their daughter, Violet, to a party. Ben also appeared to have a black eye, ouch!

Jennifer also switched it up from her regular baggy jeans by wearing a pair of J Brand’s Inez chinos in Vintage Fawn. She paired them with a striped sweater and flats. I think it’s so adorable that Violet is wearing an almost identical outfit! I’m definitely a fan of these pants on Jen, I think they look great.

College Fashion

Looks on Campus: Missy – Loyola University Chicago

College style is all about balance: You want an outfit that is comfortable, cute, and trendy but won’t get in the way of an on-the-go lifestyle. For students in Chicago, this is even more important – with the city as your campus, you never know when a commute to class will turn into an impromptu sightseeing expedition. In other words, it’s good to be prepared for anything.

Fashionista of the Week

Pairing basics together in an ornate fashion, she quickly caught attention when passing by. She played with menswear fashion through her blazer choice and chunky Dr. Marten boots. Not swaying too much to the world of menswear, she wore a pair of cut-off shorts to accent her toned legs. Paying homage to the ’70s she placed a nifty headband around her bold, red locks. Bedazzled with layers of bracelets and a statement necklace, this Fashionista couldn’t resist getting down on Friday.

This week’s Fashionista is another prime example of the trend that was spoken of in the last post. As if this Fashionista didn’t look sweet enough already, she added an innocent touch with her knit sweater, whose style can be found at Elizabeth and James. She chose to toughen up her sweater with a brown suede skirt, a black purse, and brown leather boots. Earthy tones with suede and leather were shown at Chloé and this look is completely appropriate for the upcoming fall months (I know, sorry, I had to go there. Summer is only just beginning!). Another trend spotted among the Parisians is wearing shoes that are more suited for fall months.

Southern Preppy Dresses

Southern preppy styles are what immediately pops into my head when I imagine graduation dresses! Their silhouettes, colors, and materials are the perfect blend of classic and fun. Even better, these sun dresses can be worn day-to-day come summer, and can also be worn to a warm weather wedding. They’re classic, flattering, and adorable!

Street Style Roundup

By pulling out pieces from your spring wardrobe, and mixing them with fall staples, you can achieve a fresh look that is transitional and chic. After all, that is what the lovely ladies I chose for this month’s Street Style Roundup managed to do! Ready to check them out? Scroll on down!

Anywho, to help you recreate our friend’s look, I first went hunting for a coat. What I ended up with was a fabulous ’60s-esque capelet that can be thrown over the shoulders to keep the wind from ruffling your feathers. Continuing the outfit, I picked out a gorgeous cutout blouse and simple black mini skirt. And for your feet, I found a pair of stylish white cutout heels by Qupid (unfortunately they’re sold out but we’ll update the link if we find them elsewhere!) – perfect for a day out and about. Finally, to put the icing on the cake, I found an elegant black sun hat to keep the sun off your pretty little face and leave you feeling like a million bucks.

To get an inspired look, I took color cues from Hyoni’s outfit, and tried to find pieces that were both fun and breezy. To start off the look, I found this cute Mickey Mouse graphic tee and paired it with these amazing floral jeans that I am seriously coveting as I type this. I then found these wild leopard print shoes and paired them with a nice, neutral-colored cardigan. Finally, to keep your things organized, I picked out a roomy green satchel so wherever you go, you’ll have everything you need with you. Throw on this outfit and you’ll feel stylish without feeling stuffy.

The Feather Earring(s)

Last year suede and fringe were huge, so it was only a matter of time before we saw feathers. Best worn on one ear, a la 80?s Madonna.

The Belt

Much like the scarf, the belt will be the it accessory for every outfit this spring. You name it…beach cover-up, jeans, dress, sweater, shorts…add a belt for an instant style upgrade!

The Structured Black Hat

Whether your look is boho, retro or rock, the black hat is bound to make it’s way to the forefront of your spring wardrobe.  The Derby or Bowler, The Fedora,  The Gambler, The Trilby, The Outback, The Porkpie or Be-Bop,  The Floppy Bohemian  – this trend hardly discriminates. It’s all very Brigitte Bardot.

Pictured (from left): Nicole Richie (in a floppy bohemian hat), Jessica Szohr (in a trilby hat) and Beyonce Knowles (in a gambler hat)

The Layered Gold Jewelry

It’s all about mixing and matching – short with long, thin with chunky, feathers with medalions, and so it goes.
