Shoe Trend: Brothel Creepers

Something very peculiar has been stirring in fashion land this season: gone are the printed shoes, lace-up stilettos and pretty ballerina flats normally favoured by designers in the warmer seasons and in their place are some rather questionable replacements. Yup, it would seem designers from Miu Miu to Philip Lim have gone to the dark side, bringing to the runways s/s 2012’s hottest trend: ugly shoes we love to hate. From stripper heel-inspired Perspex numbers to flatforms and pointed velvet mules, ugly-chic is having a moment. And right at the front of the been-hit-by-the-ugly-stick queue? The queen of fabulously unfortunate footwear, the brothel creeper.

Brothel creepers – the flatform’s cooler, older sister – have been spotted on the most fashionable of feet, from Jessie J to devout creeper, Rihanna, and what they lack in grace and elegance they sure make up for in edgy coolness. Love them or hate them, creepers are set to stay firmly on our trotters through summer and well into next season.

The retro throwback flats first shot to sartorial infamy in their fifties heyday as the footwear of choice for oversized blazer and turned up jean-clad Teddy boys, before they witnessed a revival as the shoe du jour of seventies punks.

Stacked brogues on the Prada 2011 RTW catwalks signaled a stirring in the fash world and creepers were once again the shoe of choice.  If that wasn’t enough of a sartorial seal of approval, King Karl (Largerfeld, obviously!) featured the style heavily in his Chanel cruise collection. And if it’s good enough for Karl…

Creepers are surprisingly easy to wear and provide just the right dollop of edginess to an outfit. Team with a cutesy mini, a la Chanel, or up the ante with ripped tights and slashed daisy dukes. Even an ethereal floaty midi, crop top and skirt or oversized man’s shirt work with these babies.

Signal your inner angsty, Shoreditch teen with a pair of Underground’s double or triple stacked numbers – they’re the original and the best. As for design, anything goes, from plain or tartan to leopard print and embellished numbers. Or why not do a Ri-Ri and scribble some obscenities on the heel? Hmm, maybe not.

However you wear yours for summer, accessories with a smudge of black kohl and a generous helping of attitude!

Fairytale Trend

THE fairy tale has been respun by fashion, with designers whisking us away to faraway lands with their whimsical collections.

Models with hair coiled in Bavarian braids swept down the catwalk at Valentino‘s spring/summer 2012 show in billowing balloons of chiffon and the most romantic high-necked gowns, while Miuccia Prada captured the darker heart of fairy tales at Miu Miu with her army of Kristen Stewart lookalikes who stalked the runway in velvet-bow capes and intricate smocking.

Stewart leads the fairytale heroines in 2012, starring in not only the final chapter of the Twilight saga – due for release in November – but as the title role in Snow White in the Huntsman, which follows Mirror Mirror as the year’s second reworking of the classic.

And the storytelling looks set to continue – the trend carried through to the autumn/winter 2012-13 collections – at Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Giles – while a new crop of fairytale films are set for release in 2013.

Be charmed by fashion’s fascination with fairytales.

There’s always sugar and spice at play at Miu Miu,Vogue’s Harriet Quick said of the spring/summer 2012 show. This was a really hilarious psycho drama. It was Kristen Stewart in Twilight meets Wednesday Addams meets Carrie – real B-movie, teenage vampires.

Fashion 2012: pastel colors

So what’s new in fashion this year? Two words: pastel colors. You must have at least one full pastel color outfit, including everything: from shoes to coat. You will find out that pastel colors looks the best with pastel colors.
So, where and what to buy? How to combine pastel color clothes? Where to find inspiration? Just wait, I will try to answer all your questions.

P.S. This intro image is made by me. It is free to use because my policy is: what you put on internet is for everyone.

Why choose pastel colors?

Tired from active bright neon colors? Go pastel.

Extremely feminine and light pastel yellow, orange, pink, green and blue colors offers you different look, which reminds Great Gatsby Era. More girly, but stylish, more flirty, but subtle – pastel colors are classic and pastel color clothes will always be in fashion.
Soft pastel colors look beautiful not only for daytime, but also for evening. Elegant pastel color silk or chiffon gowns look great with bold metallic jewellery.
Pastels look beautiful in combination with pastels, so designers offers a wide choice of pastel color shoes, accesories and make up. Also you can find patel color and blocking color fashion combinations or pastel colow clothes with flower patterns. Combine different pastel colors and look fresh and airy!

Where have we seen pastel colors in high fashion?

What we need first is a pastel color inspiration!

Almost all high fashion designers and fashion labels for 2012 spring collections showed pastel colors. Take a look to these examples and be inspired.

Prada, Bulberry, Versace, Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld, Chloe, Miu Miu.

Cheap and Chic: Spring 2011 Trends

All fashionista’s love a bargain. It adds to the the excitement when you can save money and look fabulous in pieces that you love. I put together a few complete looks composed of spring trends all priced under $300. Cheap and chic ways to wear spring 2011 trends.

Maxi skirts are a simple yet chic trend for the spring. Designers such as Lanvin and Jill Sander showcased maxi skirts in their spring collections. I paired a cream printed tee with a black a maxi skirt. The  leopard print platform open-toed wedges add an extra bit of zing to the simple look. I added a red handbag for a pop of color to the otherwise neutral color palette.

Pleated skirts appeared in several spring 2011 collections such as Miu Miu, Rag & Bone, and Chloé. The school girl inspired staple has been transformed. The precise yet delicate pleats mixed with the feminine swing of the silhouette will be the perfect addition to your spring wardrobe. I paired a black pleated skirt, with a nude ruffled top and black blazer. I accessorized with a wide bangled watch, dressy platform pumps, and printed clutch to form the perfect look for a night on the town.

Citrus Yellow Sweetens 2011 Fashion

Minimalism has ruled fashion lately, and with it neutral colors like camel, grey, black, and white have dominated. The serious mood descended upon the world of apparel as the global economy hit some turbulence. Wisely, designers, brands, and fashion consumers turned to staple items in durable colors as sensible choices. The economic climate has still got some clearing to do, but it seems folks have seen the light at the end of the downturn tunnel. And for fashion that light is colored a sweet, citrus yellow.

The beautiful hue is the Glidden Professional 2011 Color of the Year and design-oriented industries are showing plenty of evidence that it’s a good choice for a world ready to bounce back to optimism. Personal style is an immediate means of expressing the mood and adventurous make-up lovers can start with a bright yellow eyeshadow. The example seen here is the beauty look from the Dior Spring 2011 runway show.

In fact, runway shows for next year’s designer fashion collections where chock full of variations of this color, which is especially appropriate for the spring and summers months, or for winter holidays to warm locales.

Citrus yellow is certainly a standout color, so wearing it from top to bottom can too much for some. Alternatively, it has been used as a barely there accent or a shock of color that becomes the focus. Notice how the yellow takes on different qualities according to how it’s combined.

Even Celine, a wildly popular brand known for leading the charge in the minimalist trend, splashed a bit of the ultra sunny hue into its otherwise neutral Resort 2011 collection by way of these vibrant yellow clutches. For those that prefer a wardrobe primarily made up of classic cuts and colors, this is a good way to play with the trend while staying true to the basics.

As with most color trends, designers and stylists seems to have a favorite color to pair with citrus yellow. For 2011 that color is a vivid pink that’s close in to Pantone’s color of the year choice, Honeysuckle.

The color also combines well with navy and other shades of blue.

Citrus yellow items are already on the market so there no need to wait for 2011. See the vast variety currently available online and into store in the collage below.

Spring/Summer 2011 Trends to Watch

Let’s all forget about never-ending winter and start thinking about how to fill our summer wardrobe! Designers have doled out a good dose of colour for the warm days ahead – see for yourselves what you’ll be able to wear starting as soon as next month (Mother Nature permitting!).

Boho/’70s

Whether you have a hippie side reminiscent of Anna Sui and Cavalli or more of a bohemian-bourgeois vibe à la Marc Jacobs and D&G, the key is to go retro. The ’70s are back and embodied by a new breed of gypset: a mix of “gypsy” and “jet set,” darling! Inject a touch of craft into your look with crochet, fringes and patchwork.

Romantic/boudoir

Romance was on the runway at both Dolce&Gabbana and Charlotte Ronson in a combination of English embroidery, lace, floral prints and pastels. Don a bustier top, a slip and lots of peach tones and you’ll be all set to skip through the meadows! It’s the perfect trend for the heat waves to come.

Minimalist

The minimalist trend comes back year after year, and this time it takes a page from the ’90s and Calvin Klein. Think bare-bones design, shapeless cuts and unadorned styling. Take a peek at Céline and Stella McCartney for inspiration.

Tribal

For her L.A.M.B. collection, Gwen Stefani went nuts (in a good way) for tribal prints in both her modern, structured pieces and her asymmetrical and tiered dresses. Exotic bright colours and loud prints also graced djellabas at Etro and the body-con styles of Versace. There’s nothing like a little wildness to heat things up!

Sporty

The sporty look is holding strong again on runways this season, though it isn’t always successful in its transition to retail stores. The trend has either translated into techno-materials, in homage to the wetsuit at Marni, or to more straight-up gear that recalls the tennis garb at Tommy.

Urban safari

Travellers will be thrilled to know they haven’t been forgotten for spring! Eminently wearable outfits are paired with utilitarian bags, hats and flat sandals to make for an easy-breezy season for those who combine style with activity. Check out Hermès and Ralph Lauren for inspiration.

Tomboy

Balenciaga and Dsquared2 are turning us into boys this summer. Cue bermudas and men’s shirts – with rolled-up sleeves, of course! Word to the wise: On the Paul Smith runway a feminine touch was added with a pretty pointy-toed shoe.

Whiter than white

Everyone went with white this season (Rag & Bone, Hermès, Chloé), either in part or as a total look. When you think that even the prince of darkness (all-things-black Alexander Wang) focused on white and pastels this season, it’s clear this is a monster trend!

Flashy and fluorescent

While white was all the rage on the runways in September, its counterpart (colour) made quite a coup too. Miu Miu, Sonia Rykiel and Burberry (among others) all worked with fabrics in completely Kung Pow hues. Even those among us who are hooked on neutrals have to admit it’s a trend that’s plain eye candy!

Eastern promises

Vuitton set its sails for Asia this spring, which is a trend we haven’t seen in a while. Think nouveau kimonos, mandarin-collared shirts and fans that serve as accessories. Paul Smith played the part by using floral-printed satins, while Dries Van Noten made a collection of very pretty robe dresses.

Satin

Satin is the new velvet! Burberry, Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney and Lanvin are only a few that are having their way with the shiny fabric. Far from restricted to evening dresses, it’s now perfect worn in a combination of pants, tunics or pretty summer dresses.
