What to Wear: Summer Bridal Shower

It’s wedding season! Chances are you’ve been invited to at least one wedding this summer, and with it the attending bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners and, of course, bridal showers. All of these events have proper attire, so take these tips when planning your outfit for the next summer bridal shower you attend. This season go for pastels and tiny prints. Add an extra layer of femininity with draped dresses, full skirts, and, our favorite girly summer trend, peplums. Mix in some sparkle and shine, a pair of mod shades, and all you have left to do is find the perfect gift!

1. Rag & Bone Rowan Dress: Darling drapes. Feminine and flowing, the Rowan Dress is bridal shower perfection. Contrasting black leather accents provide structure and edge to an otherwise ethereal silhouette. Details like a smocked waist and cinch-able back cape add to the heavenly nature of this frock.

2. Rachel Zoe Daria Dress: Champagne toast. A lovely champagne pink is made bubbly with the addition of a metallic gold print. Add a nude heel or strappy stiletto, slim clutch and gold jewelry for a toast-worthy outfit. Full pleated skirt with wide waistband and v-neck. Structured, yet flirty!

3. Topshop Scuba Peplum Pencil Skirt: Pretty, pretty peplums. Our favorite choice for a bridal shower is a skirt or dress with peplums, a trend that shows off your style saavy. Tuck in a matching printed blouse, a neutral button-up or contrasting black tank to let this trend take center stage.

4. A.L.C. Juli Printed Silk-Georgette Blouse: The sleeveless button-up is a major trend this summer, and done in a tiny black on white print, is bridal shower ready. Pair with a pencil skirt (with peplum!) or wear tucked into a cute pair of shorts with a blazer. Add pumps to finish this pulled together, yet pretty look.

5. Rosena Sammi Jewelry Jai Vilas Stone Bangle Set: Bring on the bling. Showcase your personality with a blinged out bangle. Rosena Sammi styles theirs with all-over rhinestones set into gold pods. Stack up with more bracelets or mix up with your gold watch.

6. Matthew Williamson Oversized Retro Sunglasses: Retro-inspired, these over-sized shades add the glam factor to a pastel or pretty printed look. Anchoring your look, they ensure that your outfit has a dash of sophistication and grown-up glamor. Williamson’s shades are done up in rusty orange tortoiseshell, a color that complements any palette.

Packing List: Weekend

Happy Friday from all of us here at Celebrity Style Guide! We hope you are getting away for the weekend, whether it be a road trip to wine country, a party in the Hamptons, or just around the block for a BBQ with friends. Near or far, I’ve picked our essential weekend pieces. Your packing mainstays  should be a pretty printed dress (dress down with flats or up with heels), a comfy cutoff (preppy with a open weave knit), and a sleeveless blouse (see yesterday’s post for more of our favorite sleeveless tops!). Add in a haute bikini under any of these pieces for waterside affairs. Layer in more trend with a woven tote, lace-up sandal, statement necklace and a pair of classic sunglasses.

1. Antik Batik Tica Print Dress: Wear Saturday afternoon with a pair of flat sandals and Saturday night with a wedge, a print dress is a must-have on our packing list for its versatility and ease of wear. This Antik Batik has a tunic-like feel with its easy fit, drawstring waist, deep v-neckline, and sheer sleeves. Also makes a gorgeous poolside cover-up!

2. Feel the Piece Boxy Boat Neck Sweater: Relaxed, yet with a preppy twist, an airy open knit sweater works for style and warmth when seaside. I love it layered up with your favorite button-up or tank over a classic cutoff. Wear back to navy or stripes, bright white denim and espadrilles for traditional nautical flair.

3. Enza Costa Sleeveless Blouse: A favorite trend for summer, the sleeveless blouse can work buttoned-up or a little undone. Tuck it into a chino short and back to pumps for Sunday brunch or a little tousled with cutoffs and bikini for an afternoon in the surf and sand. (See this week’s post on sleeveless blouses for more of this trend!).

4. J Brand Cutoffs Shorts: J Brand does the American classic justice. A perfect five-pocket style with frayed cuffs, their cutoff captures girl-next-door simplicity. We love the fresh white wash of these, which works back to a neutral knit or a bright colorblocked top.

5. Chloe Snake Print Bikini: Stand out in the crowd with a snakeskin print. Bikinis are not for the bashful, so go all out whether it be with a bold print or an eye-catching color. A sexy layer underneath a sheer sleeveless blouse like the Enza Costa above.

6. Karen Walker Helter Skelter Sunglasses: Whether you’re all dressed up for sunset cocktails or grabbing a Saturday morning coffee by the beach, these Karen Walker sunglasses are so classic that they go with any look. Our favorite pair for keeping packing accessories to a minimum! Their tortoiseshell frames work back to any color scheme.

7. Made Her Think Tooth n Skull Necklace: Tribal style meets summer style with this statement necklace. Tiny pyrite skulls are interspersed among long resin teeth. Dress up a simple tank with this piece or wear back to your favorite maxi dress.

8. Ancient Greek Sandals Circe T Strap Flat Sandals: The designer name says it all. A style so classic it’s been stylish for ages, these Greek sandals bring the glory of the Mediterranean kingdom to any place your bound. Wrap them over ankles to showcase a pair of lovely tanned legs.

9. Mar Y Sol Baja Oversized Tote: For the sea and for the sun, this designer brings style to the great outdoors with their take on a woven tote. Handmade with great attention to detail, it’s styled with an intricate pattern and fun colored pom poms. Extra large to tote all your weekend essentials!

Get the Look: Jaime King

Just glancing through Jaime King’s latest looks and it’s not hard to see why fashionistas are drawn to the beautiful Hart of Dixie star. This girl exudes modern glamour!

The model/actress has a great affection for designers like Jason Wu, Christian Louboutin and Proenza Schouler. It’s not just wearing such labels that make Jaime fashion star — it’s her style that’s totally irresistible and yet relatable. She always delivers a timelessly elegant, playful combination of modern and ladylike. She refers to her style as ‘eclectic meets classic.’ I particularly love this sporty and sassy look Jamie shared on her Twitter.

Here, Jaime rocks the must have wedge sneaker. A trend worth picking up, the wedge sneaker is a great way to dress up an afternoon look. The shoes do indeed make the outfit, adding a fresh spin to this jeans and top combo.

To get this outfit, mix up a wedge sneaker with dark skinnies and a layered lace top. Sweep your hair up in a high bun and choose a structured ivory bag to add a little glam. Finish with simple nude makeup and neutral brown eyeshadow to keep things in line with the sporty vibe of Jaime’s sneakers.

1. Ash Cool Blue Multi Suede Velcro Sneaker: Street chic. Go sporty with baby blue and navy suede. A velcro closure and high top makes Ash’s kicks too cool for school. Finished with a wedge heel, these shoes can transform any outfit into a street chic look.

2. Jason Wu Daphne Satchel: Mix it up! Who would have thought that sneakers and a satchel would work so well together? This structured bag gives this whole look an extra shot of glam and makes the high wedge heel of the sneakers look all the more intentional. A structured satchel works back to so many looks this season!

3. MiH Jeans Boston Mid-rise Straight Leg Jean: The deep blue wash of the MiH jeans works back to the navy blue of the Ash sneaker, tying the shoe into the whole outfit. A wardrobe staple for sure, a pair of dark denim straight leg jeans is a must-have for any girl. Work them day to night and season to season.

4. Alexa Chung for Madewell Patrice Top: Lace is another unexpected pairing for a pair of sneakers, but we adore it with Jaime’s look. Layered over a matching tank, it adds girly-girl charm to a pair of jeans, but can work as a sexy nighttime top when paired with a mini or leather legging.

5. Maybelline Color Tattoo Creme Eyeshadow in Bad to the Bronze: Jaime works a simple nude face, but brings out her eyes with this deep bronze-brown eyeshadow. Maybelline’s Color Tattoo line has 24 hour coverage, which works well for an outfit that can work day to night like this one!

Trending: Sleeveless Blouses

Our philosophy of summer style is that warm weather calls for three things: effortless dressing, pieces that keep you cool, and showing a little skin. Check. Check. Check. The trending sleeveless blouse fulfills each tenet perfectly, and that’s why we’re featuring it today. Whether you opt for a playful printed blouse over flares, like Hilary Duff, or tuck your tidy button-up into a pencil skirt, the sleeveless blouse is a versatile building block for any summer wardrobe. Go retro glam by knotting one over a pair of hot pants and espadrilles or go girl on the go with a bright button-up over shorts and pumps.

1. A.L.C. Juli Printed Silk Georgette Blouse: Pairing her A.L.C. Juli Blouse with navy flares and a wrist full of beaded bracelets, Hilary Duff embraces this trend effortlessly. Perfect for girls night out or dinner with the hubbie, this flattering style can also be tucked into a black pencil skirt for an office look.

2. Equipment Diem Tie Front Blouse: Tie it up! Going completely retro, you can tie this cherry red top over dark denim high-waisted shorts and your favorite espadrilles. Patch pockets and a crisp collar keep things on the sporty side. Take your 4th of July look up a stylish notch and bring this outfit to the annual BBQ!

3. Diane von Furstenberg Rina Tank: Delicately printed floral silk and drapes of fabric come together for a top worthy of a garden party, summer wedding or dinner party. Pair with a complementing skirt or wear weekend back to skinnies. A sophisticated twist on the trend.

4. A.L.C. Gracie Top: Somewhere between tangerine and lemon yellow, this top is a tangy treat. Tuck into crisp shorts for a girl’s night out or flared denim for running errands. Sweet shoulder pleating, a deep v-neckline, and a swing shape make this a flirty choice for any summer day.

5. Joie Lubov Top: Wear it a million ways. The boho girl will wear it back to boyfriends and an armful of bracelets. The uptown girl will take it to the office with a pencil skirt and pumps. The romantic will bring it back to sweet floral shorts and a navy blazer. A blush pink color complements most skin tones, while pleating, a relaxed fit and a split neck works back to any look.

Lightweight Jackets

Polish your look with a lightweight jacket this spring. Whether it be a sporty parka, a tailored tweed, a classic trench or a mod moto, a jacket adds the final layer of personal style to your look. Pick a jacket that reflects your personality, then work it for office or play, night or day. Pull your look together for those chilly mornings, windy spring afternoons or crisp nights by mixing big trends with classic lines: pop colors, metallic sheens, cropped cuts, and asymmetrical closures.

1. Gap Lightweight Nylon Parka:
A twist of tangerine and a pop of orange, citrus hues infuse fresh, tangy color sense into any look. This lightweight parka pairs well as a throw-on for yoga class, over jeans for errands, or as a casual layer over a more polished piece, like a workwear sheath or floral sundress.

2. IRO Haven Jacket with Zippers:
Mad men meets mod styling in the Haven Jacket. An asymmetrical zip front, zip pockets, and zip wrists fast forward this tidy, tweed-looking jacket. A logical choice for the office, this jacket also works back to denim or leather for night or weekend.

3. Marc by Marc Jacobs Brice Coat:
Composed enough for the Queen, classic enough for Jacket O. This clean-lined trench coat is also made ultra chic with the addition of citron hems and lining. Layer over your pumps and pencil skirt, a coat this cute brings fun to your work week.

4. Old Navy Cropped Trench Coat:
Toss aside your black peacoat and make way for a vibrant yellow trench. Old Navy’s cropped coat works all week long with its smart tailoring and fun color. Finished with preppy details like tabbed epaulets at shoulders and an eight-button double-breasted front.

5. Topshop Metallic Drape Biker Jacket:
Metallic mania. Every wardrobe needs a shot of metal, whether it be a metallic flat or a bronzed biker jacket. Wearable for day, but most fun by night, use this lightweight jacket over a frilly top and leather leggings or a racy red dress. Finished with asymmetrical zip and D-ring detail at collar.

A Shorts Story

Girl in the city. Girl meets guy. Girl celebrates with friends. Girl on vacation. Whatever your short story, a pair of shorts will get you from beginning to end as the fashionable heroine. Ditch denim blue and opt for optic orange, a pretty print, a cute crochet, classic cream or tangy teal. Bold colors, feminine textures like lace or crochet, and any print under the sun is the way to begin your summertime story.

1. Topshop MOTO Embellished Gem Hotpants: Very vintage. The hot pant is back and better than ever. A high waist paired with a slim silhouette makes for a curve-hugging fit. Done up in jewel print, these pants look fabulous paired with a silk blouse or a tank and blazer.

2. Old Navy Women’s Denim Cut-off Shorts in Serpenteal: Go bold or go home. Denim is anything but a wallflower this year. Whether you pick a deep teal like these affordable shorts from Old Navy or a hot pink, make sure you opt for color. These cut-offs with frayed edges go well with your bikini and a printed tank for a day on the beach or boardwalk.

3. Parker Silk Ruffle Short: Olivia Palermo hits the city streets of New York in these amazing Parker shorts. Navy and orange zig zags, two ultra hot colors in one trendy print, come together in delicate double front ruffles making these shorts a sure-fire standout. Layer on a navy blazer or wear just like Palermo with a creamy ruffled blouse and orange flats.

4. Rag & Bone Pascal Short: The Pascal short brings to mind two things: a classic cream tuxedo and vintage sailor pants. Either way two very iconic ideas are made trendy. A grosgrain ribbon makes up the waistband, while delicate buttons and slant pockets grace the front.

5. Tory Burch Shearer Shorts: Pop colors make for playful adventures. Tory Burch does her orange shorts up in straight lines with on-seam front pockets and flat back welt pockets. Tuck in a button-up and throw on some espadrilles for a pulled together playtime look.

6. Club Monaco Diaz Lace Shorts: Lovely in lace. Want a romantic storyline? The Diaz Lace Shorts are perfect for date night or a special occasion. A fitted short is given graceful lines with the addition of a lace overlay and scalloped hem. Pair with peep toe pumps or Mary Jane’s.

Destination Inspiration

Today’s inspiration comes from a very inspiring destination: the Mayan Riviera. The white sand beaches of Cancun, the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean, and the colorful culture of Mexico are calling us to vibrant styles. Start your style with white, as pure as summer sunlight, in rompers, shorts, and flirty skirts. Then add intricate Mexican prints and embroidery, in a trim, shoe or all-out jacket. Finish with cayenne red and turquoise blue stones, colored leathers, and an armful of beaded bracelets.

1. Mara Hoffman Embroidered Romper: For a romp in the sand or afterhours fun, this Mara Hoffman romper is the essence of the Mayan Riviera. Its body is set-off by traditional embroidery, braided straps, and a button front. Pair with woven sandals by day, espadrilles by night.

2. Rory Beca Samoa Embroidered Shorts: Fresh sky blue shorts are made extra special with an embroidered waistline. Show off the intricate patterning by tucking in a blouse or tank. These gym-style shorts are uber comfortable so they are great for travel, over your swimsuit or as an comfy alternative to that bandage-style cocktail dress.

3. Rebecca Minkoff Becky Printed Jacket: After vacation is over, bring home the vibrant colors of your travels. This printed jacket brings vibrance to the workplace, as a twist on the blazer or a colorful cover-up for nightwear. Silk blazer with shawl collar and pointed front hem.

4. Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent Sage Embroidered Ballet Flats: Flirty feet. Cobalt blue is accented by turquoise, pink, and green embroidery. Paired back to boyfriends or a flirty skirt, you’ll be sad to kick these off to play in the sand.

5. Vanessa Mooney Twist of Fate Bracelet: Just one? You’ll want arm-fulls of this lovely bracelet. Vintage-y brass is set with pink and blue glass beads. The perfect complement to any tanned wrist!

6. Cleobella Cantina Medium Bag: Lunch at the cantina or drinks in the cabana, this bright green carry-all is like the lime in your Mexican beer. A twist of tang, it gives off an authentic vibe with its perforated detailing and whipstitched edges.

7. Juliet & Company Retro Color Earrings: Caliente! Spice up your look with these cayenne red earrings. Their deep red color comes from faceted resin stones hung on brass hooks. Throw them in to heat up any night!

8. push by PUSHMATAaHA Small Monarch Ring: Turquoise is Mexico’s signature stone. No outfit inspired by this destination is complete without a touch of turquoise. A sterling silver band is set with deep blue turquoise and surrounded by scalloped brass.

The Best Looks from New York Fashion Week: Spring 2012

See our favorite looks from the top shows in New York. Plus, check out our complete Fashion Week coverage, including the chicest party looks.

By Harper’s Bazaar Staff

Marc Jacobs Spring 2012

We’re calling it now. Everyone will be wearing socks with pointy-toed heels next spring. Why? Because it was part of Marc Jacobs’ plan for spring, one that included — as set in a dance hall scene — loads of feminine dresses and skirts.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2012

As always, Jacobs approached fashion with a wink. So girls walked out in great skirts that were “hiked up” in front, paired with sweatshirts and leather gym bags.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2012

There was no end to the kinds of materials the designer manipulated — shiny, fuzzy, sheer, shredded, lacquered, frayed, sequined, etc. A handful of gingham checked dresses, which seemed simple enough, looked so shiny in the runway lights they came off as plastic. Purposely plastic, obviously.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2012

Amid all the technology of it, there were retro-tinged silhouettes (A-line dresses, pencil skirts, swing coats) in classic materials like lace. It was how Jacobs finished it that was new and modern. One silver lace overcoat look like it had been dipped in metal.

Marc Jacobs Spring 2012

At its root, this was a simple collection of straightforward ready-to-wear, but through styling, technology and wit, Jacobs turned into a nice way to end the American collections. As usual, everything is more than what it seems on this runway.

Calvin Klein Spring 2012

Francisco Costa had a nude interlude for spring, taking inspiration from from Paul Outerbridge’s famous images of naked women. Costa’s opening salvo was done up all in skin-colored blush.

Calvin Klein Spring 2012

That the silhouettes were cut so delicately along the body, often with seaming, only furthered the illusion that the models were wearing nothing. A sexy-smart idea.

Calvin Klein Spring 2012

The designer broke palette to include a beautiful green and a parade of black pieces. Here again, he kept his shapes clean and close to the body. Even a chic suit felt like something sexier.

Calvin Klein Spring 2012

Tapping into a big trend this season — sheerness — Costa incorporated see-through panels provocatively placed at the bust.

Calvin Klein Spring 2012

The designer managed to marry both his love of minimal with a softness, and the takeaway was a very feminine collection.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2012

Few designers mine the Twenties and Thirties as prolifically as Ralph Lauren. His spring collection, with its cloche hats, high-waisted trousers and below-the-knee silk floral skirts hearkened to his Gatsby glory days. Meaning: There was plenty to wear, especially if you’re a romantic.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2012

After an opening group of pale pastel floral looks, Lauren stuck to a white palette, working and reworking grown-up, elegant ready-to-wear—trim sweaters, loose trousers, tennis dresses, swingy tank numbers, suit dresses, etc. Some accented with a feathered scarf and multi-strand monochromatic beads.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2012

It all had the feel of a glamorous garden party. Even a leather biker jacket translated as sweet done in pale pink.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2012

Evening was all about silk and slink, with a parade of mint or pink gowns with halters, key-hole, strapless or tank necklines and feathered details. Or he festooned his looks with intricate beadwork with matching drop earrings.

Ralph Lauren Spring 2012

There were some real beauties here, and plenty for women with a red carpet to attend to choose from. In the end, it was proof that 40-odd years later, Lauren is still a designer worth watching.

Proenza Schouler Spring 2012

For spring, Proenza Schouler’s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough looked to the future from the vantage point of the 50s. More specifically, through Googie glasses. Googie being the Mid-Century style of architecture defined by its space age-y obsession.

Proenza Schouler Spring 2012

Through their lens, they redid low-cut swimwear suit shapes and flared skirts like you’d see at the sock hop. The update was in newfangled materials (the duo owns their own mills so they have free reign to create anything they want).

Proenza Schouler Spring 2012

There was both an innocence and a savviness to these redone retro looks. A sartorial irony as it were. The shapes might look lady-like, but a gloss, a tighter than expected fit, a body-con line turned it into something sexier.

Proenza Schouler Spring 2012

The designers worked in several of their own prints, including an arty leaf motif they used on their signature structured sewn-in bustier look and cropped pants or slim belted dresses with baseball t-shirt sleeves (a cool effect).

Proenza Schouler Spring 2012

Here, as it has been elsewhere in New York, the emphasis was on dresses. At Proenza, they were to the knee, long-sleeved and just on the sexy side of prim and proper.

Such clutches come both in neutral colors to be good for office wear and in brighter hues for less formal outfits.

Bag Trend #3: Printed bags. We are normally rather practical and choose bags which are more or less versatile. But designers advise us to be bolder during Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion season and invest into bags which are not ordinary, those which feature interesting patterns.

Bag Trend #4: Foldover bags. Foldover bags have been popular for a couple of seasons already and they will stay in fashion for the entire Spring/ Summer 2012 season. Foldover bags come in a great variety of sizes, colors and prints.

Bag Trend #5: Small shoulder bags. Shoulder bags have always been in vogue. But in Spring/ Summer 2012 only small shoulder bags will be trendy. And despite they are called ‘shoulder’ bags they can as well be carried in hands.

Bag Trend #6: Satchel bags. Satchel bags are very comfortable. They don’t look big but can hold plenty of things. So, they are best for those of us who like to have everything for every occasion just in the bag.

Bag Trend #7: Wristlets. Wristlets, which are perfect for women who often lose things, will be very trendy during Spring/ Summer 2012. They come in a variety of designs and tones.

Bag Trend #8: Totes and weekend bags. Huge bags will not be very popular during Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion season but average-sized totes and weekend bags will. Opt for vibrant hues to stand out of the crowd or neutrals if you want a bag you could accessorize your every look with.

Bag Trend #9:Tiny bags. Women have always loved small bags – they are good for special occasions and look interesting. But are you ready for a bag which is not small but tiny? Whether or not you are, these bags are to be a hit in summer.

Bag Trend #10: Chain handles. Yes, since Chanel first introduced chain handles they have always been popular with fashionistas. The secret is simple: chain handle looks even more luxurious than it really is.

Dress Trends For Spring/ Summer 2012

Dresses in Spring/ Summer 2012 collections come in a such a great variety that it seems almost impossible to determine certain trends. However, we took our time and made that work to let you see what is in vogue during the fashion season.

There are few women who can do without a dress in a warm season which explains why designers have created so many wonderful dresses for Spring/ Summer 2012. They come in different lengths, styles and colors providing every woman with an opportunity to find something she likes a lot. And if we make a short classification it can be quite possible to determine the Dress Trends for Spring/ Summer 2012.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #1: Airy maxi dresses. Maxi dresses are always in vogue but during Spring/ Summer 2012 season it is airy maxis that will be top trendy. Made of chiffon, taffeta, organza and other sheer fabrics maxi dresses come in colorful prints. D&G and Emilio Pucci offer us multilayered dresses with scarf-inspired prints, Just Cavalli and Naeem Khan go for leopard and polka dots while Roccobarocco simply combines contrast colors.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #2: Mini dresses. While some ladies opt for airy maxi dresses others will definitely want to show more of their bodies and trendy mini dresses will help them a lot with this. Paco Rabanne, Balmain and other designers have made a variety of super mini dresses in different colors and designs.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #3: Midi-length dresses. Midi-length dresses are perfect for those who dislike maxi dresses but feel shy or inappropriate to wear mini dresses. Midi dresses look good on women of all ages and can be good for many occasions. In a dress from Giorgio Armani you can visit a red carpet event. Victoria Beckham’s tight-fitting midi will look perfect at a book launch or a store opening and a stylish Etro will make you feel gorgeous everywhere you go.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #4: Glittering dresses. If you want all attention centered at you just go for one of glittering dresses designers provided in plenty for Spring/ Summer 2012. Try a silver or gold dress or find a bolder option in green, red or blue. Elie Saab designed fantastic sequined gowns. Giorgio Armani made a few dresses in color of liquid metal. And Paco Rabanne worked with iridescent hues.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #5: Asymmetrical hemlines. Asymmetrical hemline is a big Spring/ Summer 2012 trend which extends not only to dresses but to various tops and coats, too. Mary Katrantzou made a number of fabulous dresses with trains. Missoni cut hemlines to one side, while majority of designers simply re-invented a mullet dress (which has been a hot Winter 2012 trend).

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #6: Floral-printed dresses. Floral print is very trendy during Spring/ Summer 2012. Delicate and small or large prints look feminine and very beautiful. Every brand from Valentino to Proenza Schouler and of course Anna Sui (who nearly every season uses the print in her collections) have used it. And some, like Iceberg, even combined different floral prints together.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #7: Lace dresses. Lace has been a trend since last spring but it doesn’t lose its popularity in Spring/ Summer 2012. Lace has become more delicate though. Erdem, Preen, Oscar de la Renta, Bebe and other designers and brands used lace in their ranges.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #8: White dresses. Like in every warm season white dresses are among favorites during Spring/ Summer 2012. They come in different fabrics and styles but always look lovely.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #9: Peplums. Just like lace peplums are not new in vogue. They have been with us for a couple of seasons and will stay for Spring/ Summer 2012. Peplums have become bigger and bolder and now come on both casual and evening dresses. Versace peplums are long and flat. Badgley Mischka, Alexander McQueen and Jason Wu made more voluminous peplums. And Rodarte peplums are very puffy.

Spring/ Summer 2012 Dress Trend #10: Frills. Spring/ Summer 2012 collections have many dresses with frills and pleats. While some look neat and classy others are huge and eye-catching.

And of course Spring/ Summer 2012 collections abound with evening dresses which are luxurious and sophisticated, perfect for a red carpet event or an important occasion.

The Top Resort 2012 Trends

With so many newbies (Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra) joining established Cruise veterans (Michael Kors, Chanel), the number of designers presenting Resort collections this year topped out at nearly 200. That’s a pretty hefty number — one that pushes Resort from a mere rest stop between two big seasons to a definitive moment all on its own. It also means more outfits than ever for whatever holiday-fêting, jet-setting, beach-lounging, city-cruising adventure one has in mind. Here’s a look at some of the most dominant themes to emerge during the biggest Resort season yet.

New York City’s Spring 2012 Fashion Week

Neon
Peter Som
The color-blocking trend gets a fun, fresh facelift with Peter Som’s latest collection of high-voltage neons against ’60s-style silhouettes.

Neon
Jason Wu
We’d love to see First Lady Michelle Obama rock this hot yellow number, a sharp twist from the designer who’s known for offering a timeless, highly refined red carpet look. This season, he took inspiration from a graffiti artist, and the added edge is one of his boldest moves yet.

Neon
Rag & Bone
Electric hues are nothing new to David Neville and Marcus Wainwright, but the bright turquoises and oranges popped in some seriously exciting combinations on the runway.

Neon
Rodarte
Sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy were inspired by Vincent van Gogh with this season’s color palette, and although we see evidence of the the post-impressionist painter’s brush strokes, we don’t recall him using anything quite as shocking as this lime green ruched top and pencil skirt in, say, Starry Night.

Neon
Ruffian
It was hard to know just where to look when this look came down the runway. The shock of yellow against the blue and green skirt was graphic color blocking at its most extreme.
Neon
Nanette Lepore
If there was any question about neon being the upcoming color family of choice, Nanette Lepore’s collection quieted all queries. From the ultraviolet lipstick to the brighter-than-brightly crafted handbags, every look was truly spellblinding.
Art Deco Graphics

Lacoste
In his first showing for the brand, Felipe Oliveira Baptista played with lines and even made us try to follow the maze of this chic shift dress.
Art Deco Graphics

Carolina Herrera
When she wasn’t affixing adorable sparrow prints to dresses, Carolina Herrera was playing with geometry. We love how the black, taupe, and white graphics on this knit top evoke the Chrysler Building!
Art Deco Graphics

Alexander Wang
Some of his dresses had a literal stadium seating chart as the focal print, but we much preferred this more abstract-yet-linear take. The corners and edges made a baggy top feel sharp and tailored.
Art Deco Graphics

Milly
Michelle Smith offered up a lesson in geometry with her latest collection for the brand. The vibrant linear prints and clean shapes — not to mention the adorable retro neck scarf — made us more than happy for the crash course.
Pajamas

ADAM
Going to sleep never looked so stylish as it does in Adam Lippes’ show, where PJ-style pants and tops reigned. This look’s polka-dot (another trend that has legs through at least another few seasons) print did the trick, too.
Pajamas

Richard Chai Love
Although Richard Chai played up pajama dressing this go-around, there was nothing overly slouchy about these silk rose printed pants.
Pajamas

Luca Luca
Raul Melgoza demonstrated a more relaxed mood on this season’s runway, but even his loungewear-inspired looks — teal-and-blue striped pants under a robe blazer with a matching knotted headscarf — still showed off his focus on expert tailoring.
Pajamas

Betsey Johnson
Sure, not many of the looks on the cartwheeling designer’s runway are really appropriate outside the bedroom, this burlesque-inspired floral onesie is one we’d love to wear exclusively when hitting the sheets.
Athletic Chic

Alexander Wang
Sure, most of Alexander Wang’s collections are all about tough, urban street wear, but this one really honed in on the motocross moment in particular. Aside from actual motorcycle helmets and laser-cut mesh layering, this body-con tracksuit made us all want to hit the gym in style.
Athletic Chic

Marc by Marc Jacobs
You can’t get much sportier than with this look from Marc Jacob’s more affordable collection. Although all the moving pieces on their own aren’t especially remarkable, when they come together, it’s street chic at its finest. And those shoes! We love a good pair of color-blocked kicks.
Athletic Chic

Victoria Beckham
Posh Spice has gone a wee bit sportier with her first official runway show. All about utility, the most noticeable embellishment were the sturdy nylon straps fastened with durable D-rings.
Athletic Chic

Rag & Bone
There’s something intriguing about the dangling straps from this mullet skirt — short in front and long in back — and we suspect that there’s some hidden utility to change the fabric’s height. Either way, having it paired with an ultra-white crisp tee makes it all the more striking.
Athletic Chic

Nicole Miller
Nicole Miller toughened up the also-emerging neon trend with hyperactive prints and loads of neoprene that evoked a real skater-girl vibe, which was happily exactly what the designer was going for.
Diaphanous Whites

Kimberly Ovitz
The up-and-coming designer’s latest collection was predominantly a medley of ethereal whites — all loosely pieced together and draped.
Diaphanous Whites

Doo.Ri
Doo-Ri Chang is above all a master draper, and with this look, she managed to offer the structure of a crisp white button-down with the unexpected flow of a pseudo-sarong.
Diaphanous Whites

Yigal Azrouël
Mostly prim and proper with this long-sleeved, floor-length white shirt-dress, the designer shows off a hint of sex appeal with an above-the-knee slit.
Diaphanous Whites

The Row
Despite the primarily white palette, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen snuck in barely-there mint with this mix of separates that seem to float through the air.
Diaphanous Whites

Band of Outsiders
This floor-dusting tiered frock — with its chic pastoral feel — from Scott Sternberg’s womenswear collection exuded a sweet softness.
Graphic Florals

Prabal Gurung
Floral prints are rapidly becoming a trend this season — but not just any floral. With a little digital manipulation, Prabal Gurung takes a Magic Eye approach to pretty petals and turns them into something out of a sci-fi fantasy. So complex and fascinating you can get lost in them for hours.
Graphic Florals

Cynthia Rowley
There were no shrinking violets at Rowley’s spring show. What might otherwise be an overly girly (Lisa Frank-inspired, perhaps?) flower pattern, got an edgy twist when juxtaposed against metallic gold and black leather.
Graphic Florals

Altuzarra
Joseph Altuzarra has gone Hawaiian with his street wear this season. Although he offered up the print in a head-to-toe vest-and-pants ensemble, we much prefer the floral panel on an edgy leather LWD.
Graphic Florals

Lela Rose
We love the juxtaposition of oversized neon flowers with the smoky, blackened backdrop of this skirt, so it’s no wonder we found out the designer was inspired by a visit to a Las Vegas graveyard for old neon signs.
Crop Tops

Preen
Ladies better hit the gym this season! It’s all about the abs for some designers, including Preen’s Thea Bregazzi and Justin Thornton, who strutted this midriff-baring black-and-white floral top down the runway.
Crop Tops

Ohne Titel
Flora Gill and Alexa Adams know how to exude sex appeal with just a hint of skin. This striped and cropped sweater has a sophisticated, asymmetrical feel.
Crop Tops

Proenza Schouler
Don’t let the long sleeves and bodysuit fool you. Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez have created quite the conservative crop with this number. Plus, they are about to have a new it-bag on their hands with this old-school camera-bag-inspired purse. We can see it on Tavi Gevinson and Julia Frakes already.
Crop Tops

Oscar de la Renta
Who knew crop tops could sub in for chic evening wear? Even if it wasn’t exposing some serious stomach, the loosely crocheted silver-thread sweater at Oscar’s show revealed skin all on its own.
Black on Yellow

Monique Lhuillier
Almost more difficult than red and green with Christmas, it’s nearly impossible to put these two colors together and not make the model look like a giant bumble bee. And yet the evening gown maker adds black lace to a cadmium yellow dress effortlessly.
Black on Yellow

Nicole Miller
Anyone looking for added edge most definitely found it in spades with this Nicole Miller scuba dress, which had black leather cut-outs affixed atop bright yellow trim.
Black on Yellow

Derek Lam
This more subtle take on the color combination is at once vibrant and conservative. Perfect for day to night!
Black on Yellow

Yigal Azrouël
Yigal Azrouël combines black and yellow in a series of darling georgette prints, like this top tucked into the hottest of black hot pants.
Black on Yellow

Carolina Herrera
The designer attempted this color combination with a few looks from her latest collection, but the most noticeable pairing was this embroidered sheer overlay with a simple yellow dress.
Black on Yellow

Oscar de la Renta
The very first look on the OdlR runway was pretty much a showstopper: a mustard yellow silk taffeta ball gown topped with a sheer black floral lace top.
Polka Dots

Suno
For a refreshing take on a classic trend, Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty showed off a painterly style of black-on-white polka dots in their very first runway show.
Polka Dots

ADAM
It’s not just the ultra-femme silhouette of this frock we love, but the playful spots that are at once classic and youthful. Perfectly refreshing!
Polka Dots

Luca Luca
For a more adult take on dots, Raul Melgoza created a top with a cascading effect of multicolored jewel-tone spots.
Polka Dots

Tory Burch
There’s something very Chanel about this three-dimensional take on spotted prints at Tory Burch’s first runway show after nearly a decade of presentations.
Tangerine

Vivienne Tam
With most runway shows and presentations debuting one acid hue after another, the deep red-orange of Vivienne Tam’s chic pantsuit is a top option for those who still want to add a little color to their wardrobe.
Tangerine

Charlotte Ronson
Up until the final handful of looks, the young designer stuck to a quiet color scheme with her collection. But the last four looks all burst forward — from a mere ombré effect to full-on saturation — with striking pops of orange.
Tangerine

Jill Stuart
Palm trees were a definite, if not literal, inspiration of Jill Stuart’s latest collection, and it got play in this sweet coral-and-cream dress.
Tangerine

Christian Siriano
The Project Runway alum’s flair for drama was in full force, but we tend to prefer his more understated — if you can even call it that! — pairings of T-shirts and skirts. The one exception? The palette behind this striped-top-and-tulle-skirt number.
Tangerine

Jenny Packham
Even with the thigh-high slit, we can totally see Kate Middleton — the Duchess of Cambridge is an avid fan of the London-based designer — rocking this beautifully draped one-shoulder gown to a benefit with her Prince Charming.
Peplum Accents

Vera Wang
The designer was all about peplums this season, but if her clientele isn’t interested, not to worry: They’re detachable. Still, their swirling, psychedelic prints give the perfect pop to all-white ensembles. Perhaps they’ll bring new life to some of Vera’s wedding gowns!
Peplum Accents

Thakoon
The amazingly out-there hair of the model’s at Thakoon’s runway show almost stole the show away from this edgy look, which combines the feminine frills of a peplum top with the masculine touch of bermuda shorts.
Peplum Accents

Jason Wu
Jason Wu’s fabric choice for this pink peplum skirt was impeccable. Watching it sashay with every step turned it into an instant must-have.
Peplum Accents

Cushnie et Ochs
A fashion show that played off a very literal housewives theme (there was a white picket fence at the start of the runway!) ended up delivering looks that anyone — desperate or not — would want. Case in point: This leather peplum jacket and cigarette pants.

Hottest Trend: Peplums

If someone told me peplum was to become a trend again I would laugh at his face because so many times we were reminded of the ideal woman’s figure that was pretty skinny. But time and tastes change and now we see this voluminous detail both on n the red carpet and on the runway.

While some women would do nearly everything to get rid of those extra inches on their hips others seem to be acting in the most ridiculous way by adding volume to the area. Well, they are not crazy. They just follow the newest and hottest trend of the approaching fashion season (Fall/ Winter 2011/2012). They wear peplums.

Peplums, which were very popular in the 80s of the last century, have been almost forgotten considering the fact vogue has loved skinny girls for over 30 years. Now with the growing interest in healthy size shapes women are no longer afraid of looking a little bigger (with no extremes, of course!) and that brings a natural revival of peplums.

Modern peplums are restrained regarding the silhouette but they can be as colorful as those ladies liked rocking in the 20s century. Beware of too much volume but go daring if you like color. You can try the safer hues or even neutrals.

Pair your peplum with a pencil skirt and a clinging top for a slim look. And avoid noticeable accessories to focus attention on the trendy detail.
The best way to demonstrate the power of the trend is to show you celebrities wearing it. And if stars wear something, we will definitely see the same things on non-celebrity fashionistas soon. Emma Stone, Emma Watson, Nicole Kidman, Liv Tyler are just a few of those who adopted the hot trend into their wardrobes.

By the way, designers have created lots of dresses and skirt featuring peplums. They look great, don’t you think?

Would you dare to wear the peplum trend during Fall/ Winter 2011/ 2012 fashion season?

5 Spring / Summer 2011 Trends: Crochet, Color Blocking, High Slits, and more!

by Claire

Nandi says, “I was wondering if you could do a post on the Spring and Summer trends for 2011? If you can that would be great!”

Sure thing! Though we’ve done some extensive Spring shopping posts, we have indeed neglected to break down what you’ll need to be on trend for the summer months.

Let’s take a look at five you should definitely try:

1. Colorblocking

As seen at: Gucci, Jil Sander, Proenza Schouler, Prabal Gurung, Rachel Roy, Z Spoke, Prada, and Diane von Furstenberg.

3. Crochet

As seen at: Gucci, Christian Dior, Emilio Pucci, and ADAM.

Pucci made a nude mini even sexier with a down-to-there neckline (is that a bellybutton we spy?). Mirror embroidery and pom-pom trim gave it a rich texture.
