Paris Fall/Winter 2011-2012

Paris Fall/Winter 2011-2012

PARIS – FashionTV takes you live to the streets of Paris for Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011/2012 and the sophisticated elegance of shows like Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Viktor & Rolf, Lanvin, Balmain, Yves St. Laurent, and more. VIPs like Nicole Richie, Daisy Lowe, and Kanye West came to the big shows like Jean-Paul Gaultier.

At the Vivienne Westwood show, models’ faces are covered in war paint and the strong women look like warriors in elaborate clothing. Things get even more fiery when we had to the Viktor & Rolf show where models faces are painted blood red and the clothes, in both black and ecru colors, looked like armor on their bodies. “We wanted to create a glamorous fashion crusade,” said Dutch designer Viktor Horsting. Things get playful at Sonia Rykiel, where models drapse down the runway in pinkish-red lips, pink furs, plaid, and prints next to what looks like a wired backyard fence. Rochas is sophisticated and quietly bold as usual. Kenzo, with Arizona Muse headlining, is a steam of a camouflage colors and kaleidoscope prints. Stella McCartney has beautiful form-fitting dresses with billowy sleeves and unique, playful textures. Gareth Pugh is edgy and dark with black leather, bold shoulders, and tough makeup. Balmain brings out big models like Carmen Kass and Freja Beha Erichsen, with bold and futuristic designs. Nina Ricci is pretty in dark, Fall colors. The collection included historical references in unique color combinations. Chloe has a conservative vibe but with color blocking. Yves St. Laurent was sophisticated, with a perverse bourgeois, one audience member describes. It has a slight sex appeal. Valentino, headlined by model Ruby Aldridge, was toned down but beautiful as always with lush fabrics. Jean-Paul Gaultier’s show included special guest, French actress Valerie Lemercier and made a statement when models donned gray wigs like grandmas but wore the designer’s stellar outfits. Gaultier described it as a little girl who wanted to be like their mother, with a 60s and 70s feel. Lanvin’s collection had sort of an outdoorsy Amish meets cowboy feel at first, but quickly picked up with Lanvin’s gorgeous minidresses and skirt suits. Thierry Mugler took our breath away when Lady Gaga smoked a cigarette on stage as other models followed in dark looks.

Appearances: Paloma Faith, Daisy Lowe, La Roux, Hildie Gifstad, Vivienne Westwood, Karlie Kloss, Viktor Horsting, Rolf Snoeren, Sarah Blomqvist, Sonia Rykiel, Ruby Aldridge, Karl Lagerfeld, Monika “Jac” Jagaciak, Kasia Wrobel, Zuzanna Bijoch, Alana Zimmer, Designer for Rochas, Arizona Muse, Melissa Tammerijn, Antonio Marras, Elettra Wiedemann, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Jourdan Dunn, Natasha Poly, Karmen Pedaru, Stella McCartney, Gareth Pugh designer), Freja Beha Erichsen, Magdalena Frackowiak, Carmen Kass, Anabela Belikova, Sasha Pivovarova, Joan Smalls, Isabeli Fontana, Peter Copping, Julia Saner, Ginta Lapina, Daphne Groeneveld, Chloe designer, Ron Wood, Hailey Clauson, Stefano Pilati, Valentino designers, Nicole Richie, Karolina Kurkova, Alber Elbaz, Ken Downing, Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, Anna Dello Russo, Coco Rochas

Polka Dot Outfit Inspirations

Like plaid, polka dots are all over the place this year. Yet dots aren’t as classic as plaid, so they hold a special place in the Fall 2011 trend cycle. Here are some ways to wear the perky print.

The look to the left, from the Jeremy Laing Fall 2011 show, pairs an oversized dot sweater with a maxi skirt. If you’re on the petite side, though, long skirts might overwhelm your frame. Instead try a mini or a pair of shorts to lengthen to the look of your legs.

Pairing cut-offs with tights is an easy way to stretch your summer gear into fall. When in doubt go with solid black tights, but if you’re feeling adventurous layer it on thick with more polka dot pattern.

The sweater in the look below is a perfect staple sweater because of it’s neutral palette. Go up a size from what you normally wear for a slouchier more relaxed style like the runway look.

Singer and TV personality Cheryl Cole is a good example of a petite (she’s 5’3?) in polka dots. She chose this dotted mini from Sonia by Sonia Rykiel for an event in Chicago earlier this year. The star styled the dress with wedges and a ponytail for a look that’s simple but fun & pretty.

Check out the outfit below for an option that’s more affordable than Cheryl’s designer dress, and with some ways to warm it up for fall.

  • The spring/summer 2011 collections delivered an Eastern promise – waists defined by obi belts.

  • Paul & Joe’s metallic obis are perfect for a dose of summer night glam, while there were sequinned options on the Louis Vuitton catwalk for extra sparkle.

2011 Spring/Summer Fashion Trend—-Stripes

Jil Sander and Prada bring multi-colored wide stripes to the proscenium

Stripes, appeared on many T-stage of many brands’ fashion show, it is hard to ignore its existence. In particular, Jil Sander and Prada bring multi-colored wide stripes to the proscenium, before this event, it’s difficult to imagine that these stripes, usually related to cartoons, can be a sign of chic someday.
As the trend of 70s Vintage Style prevails all over the world, vintage striped shirts and shorts become the essential goods for the young generation; in addition, the navy stripe is also the guarantee of good sales volume. Therefore, stripes predominant the fashion trends!

Herve Leger

Except Jil Sander and Prada, you can also find the element of stripes in Herve Leger; the stars in Herve Leger Dresses appear so elegant and charming. We can see that stripes can create very elegant and leisure image, broad horizontal stripes may not make people seem to be fatter than usual, just like the stars in Herve Leger.

stripes can be seen all over the world

Fashion fans must pay attention to Milan, you can see the gifted command of colorful pinstripes by Versace, and these are the focus in the competition of fashion magazines. In London, designers are fond of combining stripes with other elements, believe it or not, some designers wore striped shirt to answer the curtain call.
While in New York, the stripes are seen more in the stores than in the fashion shows, especially for Diane Von Furstenberg. Paris is the center of the sailor’s striped shirt; obviously that the designers in Japan are more preferring stripes, Junya Watanabe’s entire show is based on this element, you can learn many collocations about stripes in his show.
Besides, the “knitting Queen” Sonia Rykiel allowed 10 models wearing striped shirts to walk out at the same time, as a appreciation for her regular customers.

Herve Leger dress

One piece striped skirt, like this beautiful Herve Leger Dress, seems to be a better choice, because is hard for us to handle the collocation between stripes and other items.
In addition to bags and hats, accessories with stripes are not too many. Because the stripes can’t be well demonstrated in a small accessory, such as earrings and necklaces. But you can’t deny that stripes really are the fashion element this season.
You can find more striped dress in our website.

Spring/Summer 2011 Trends to Watch

Let’s all forget about never-ending winter and start thinking about how to fill our summer wardrobe! Designers have doled out a good dose of colour for the warm days ahead – see for yourselves what you’ll be able to wear starting as soon as next month (Mother Nature permitting!).

Boho/’70s

Whether you have a hippie side reminiscent of Anna Sui and Cavalli or more of a bohemian-bourgeois vibe à la Marc Jacobs and D&G, the key is to go retro. The ’70s are back and embodied by a new breed of gypset: a mix of “gypsy” and “jet set,” darling! Inject a touch of craft into your look with crochet, fringes and patchwork.

Romantic/boudoir

Romance was on the runway at both Dolce&Gabbana and Charlotte Ronson in a combination of English embroidery, lace, floral prints and pastels. Don a bustier top, a slip and lots of peach tones and you’ll be all set to skip through the meadows! It’s the perfect trend for the heat waves to come.

Minimalist

The minimalist trend comes back year after year, and this time it takes a page from the ’90s and Calvin Klein. Think bare-bones design, shapeless cuts and unadorned styling. Take a peek at Céline and Stella McCartney for inspiration.

Tribal

For her L.A.M.B. collection, Gwen Stefani went nuts (in a good way) for tribal prints in both her modern, structured pieces and her asymmetrical and tiered dresses. Exotic bright colours and loud prints also graced djellabas at Etro and the body-con styles of Versace. There’s nothing like a little wildness to heat things up!

Sporty

The sporty look is holding strong again on runways this season, though it isn’t always successful in its transition to retail stores. The trend has either translated into techno-materials, in homage to the wetsuit at Marni, or to more straight-up gear that recalls the tennis garb at Tommy.

Urban safari

Travellers will be thrilled to know they haven’t been forgotten for spring! Eminently wearable outfits are paired with utilitarian bags, hats and flat sandals to make for an easy-breezy season for those who combine style with activity. Check out Hermès and Ralph Lauren for inspiration.

Tomboy

Balenciaga and Dsquared2 are turning us into boys this summer. Cue bermudas and men’s shirts – with rolled-up sleeves, of course! Word to the wise: On the Paul Smith runway a feminine touch was added with a pretty pointy-toed shoe.

Whiter than white

Everyone went with white this season (Rag & Bone, Hermès, Chloé), either in part or as a total look. When you think that even the prince of darkness (all-things-black Alexander Wang) focused on white and pastels this season, it’s clear this is a monster trend!

Flashy and fluorescent

While white was all the rage on the runways in September, its counterpart (colour) made quite a coup too. Miu Miu, Sonia Rykiel and Burberry (among others) all worked with fabrics in completely Kung Pow hues. Even those among us who are hooked on neutrals have to admit it’s a trend that’s plain eye candy!

Eastern promises

Vuitton set its sails for Asia this spring, which is a trend we haven’t seen in a while. Think nouveau kimonos, mandarin-collared shirts and fans that serve as accessories. Paul Smith played the part by using floral-printed satins, while Dries Van Noten made a collection of very pretty robe dresses.

Satin

Satin is the new velvet! Burberry, Miu Miu, Yves Saint Laurent, Stella McCartney and Lanvin are only a few that are having their way with the shiny fabric. Far from restricted to evening dresses, it’s now perfect worn in a combination of pants, tunics or pretty summer dresses.

Spring Trends 2011: Jumpsuit

(L-R) Yves Saint Laurent , Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Roberto Cavalli &  Gucci .

The jumpsuit is one of those pieces one can never go wrong with. One of the reasons I’m so in love with this look is because its a very chic garment , it accentuates a woman’s figure and any one can look fabulous in it . That’s why I think it should be one of  your  must- have looks for this spring / summer. Personally I love nice feminine tailored looks, and its no exception for the jumpsuits.  Weather it’s skin tight , flowy , flare , drapped or straight,  picking the right one plays an important role on how you are going to wear / style it properly.   It is also all about the fit.  Designers such as  Marc Jacobs, Sonia Rykiel ,Oscar de La Renta and especially Gucci emphasized on this trend as they had a lot of jumpsuits in their  Spring / Summer 2011 collections.

All of the above looks can be found on asos.com, except the third look which is from the tibi collection and you can find at the outnet.com

Even celebrities love the jumpsuit. Check out Chanel Iman  above  in a Micheal Kors gold metalic jumpsuit .
