What to wear: Top 10 Spring Clutches

Yes, we know that the weather is less than spring like, but there are a couple of very important things to bear in mind. Firstly, it’s good that there is so much rain because it justifies all the money you spent on coats and fleece-lined leggings a couple of months ago. Secondly, all those drought warnings suddenly don’t seem so scary. Thirdly, the weather can’t stay like this forever. So why not dream of drowsy sunlit days and choose your perfect clutch for Spring, whenever it decides to return?

1. Alexander McQueen, De-Manta Leopard Clutch; £315, Motilo.com

This sexy badboy is one of those clutches which is sure to get you noticed. The characteristic McQueen shape will be spotted a mile off, and the oversized leopard print makes it glamorous for the evening as well as practical for the day.

2. Stella McCartney, Pembridge woven wicker-effect satchel; £735, Motilo.com

You can take this tangerine dream pretty much anywhere, thanks to a handy little shoulder strap. With McCartney working her usual sports luxe look, the bright orange wicker stylings can fit into a minimal white outfit or a busy warm floral.

3. Serpui Marie, Marrakesh Minaudiere; £119, Motilo.com

Even if you’re not lucky enough to be witnessing a tropical sunset in real life, thanks to this stunning dyed straw clutch, you can take one around with you. The vibrant colours and bold tassel make it a great statement to go with your LBD.

4. Carven, Tribal jacquard clutch; £340, Motilo.com

Carven, Carven, Carven. Do they ever get it wrong? The warm berry and lemon shades in the tribal print can make this bag the focal point of a casual outfit. Are you popping out for a quick lunch in jeans and a blouse? Forget the handbag, just pop your phone, cards and keys in this clutch and away you go.

5. Angel Jackson, Foldover clutch; £259, Motilo.com

There’s something about the delicious, vibrant texture of this foldover clutch that makes us think of cocktails and key lime pie. It’s roomy enough to keep all your essentials, and yet begs to be taken out on the town. The bold colour and lack of hardware make it perfect for colour-blocking, so wear it with a clashing outfit.

6. Anya Hindmarch, Ipanema straw and raffia oversized clutch; £495, Motilo.com

7. Muzungu Sisters, Vera clutch; £180, Motilo.com

Now we move onto the chilled out beach party. As well as looking super cool, this silk straw Muzungu Sisters bag is amazingly sturdy, and no amount of sand or sea can make it look shabby. The interior cotton lining also protects your contents from spilled drinks and all the other fun/irresponsible behaviour that ensues at a soiree.

8. Charlotte Olympia, Pandora feather perspex box clutch; £525, Motilo.com

This Charlotte Olympia is a little more red carpet. Firstly, the nature of perspex means that even if you drop it down 60 flights of stairs, your iPhone will remain intact. Perfect for those who are planning on drinking more than one glass of champagne at an event. Also, the delicate peachy feathers are a subtle way to bring another dimension to a statement dress, or to enhance something more minimal.

9. Versus, Vinyl and Leather clutch; £370, Motilo.com

Hello retro! This is for all the chic hipsters out there with a bit of cash to spend. The fastening has some stylish hiking connotations with the click-in buckle and chunky toggle zip but the bubblegum pink vinyl ensures that this is strictly a fashion accessory.

10. Calvin Klein, Python document holder; £755, Motilo.com

Finally but not frumpily, the ultra sleek Calvin Klein. This oversized clutch is actually a document holder. Are you the girl who runs into a meeting with papers flying or an old folder that has been relabelled so many times that the original colour can no longer be seen? Maybe it’s time to invest in something more respectable. This A4 sized python clutch will garner a new kind of respect. In the parlance of our times: like a boss.

Mr. Blasberg’s Best-Dressed List

Diane Kruger in Hugo Boss

Well, she can officially do it all. In the film Farewell My Queen, Diane Kruger plays the ultimate clotheshorse: Marie Antoinette. (And she plays her well.) But at one of the parties to celebrate the debut of the film, Diane dressed decidedly more casual. Although, who can blame her after running around Versailles in corsets and pirate-shaped wigs? Just because she was dressed down didn’t mean she was out for this week’s list. Her look was casual but drop dead sexy. I love the effortless baggy trousers and tank top dressed up with a killer pair of heels.

Marion Cotillard in Dior Couture

The debut goes to Marion Cotillard! I was wondering which actress would be the first one to wear Raf Simons’ first Dior Couture collection on the red carpet. And it was very appropriately the Oscar-winning French actress and ambassador for the house at The Dark Knight Rises premiere in London. Doesn’t she look divine? I love the proportions — a tiny top and a long, leg-lengthening skirt — and bonus points for the pops of color with the crimson handbag and pumps. While the debate is still raging over the future of Dior, I’m looking forward to seeing more of this collection on the red carpet!

Anne Hathaway in Stella McCartney

Speaking of fashion multi-taskers, we’ve got another one here. Anne Hathaway’s out and about promoting her role as Catwoman in the new Batman flick, which has her in a skin tight leather bodysuit and her hair in long, flowing locks. (And, I have to say, I was a little surprised she’s been able to do sexy so well.) But in real life, her look is gamine and adorable. I like this pixie cut and I loved this mixed print Stella McCartney frock she wore on Jimmy Fallon.

Lauren Santo Domingo in Nina Ricci

Somehow (and even though I’m a friend I still don’t know how), Moda Operandi’s Lauren Santo Domingo manages to make high fashion samples into maternity clothes. Look at this Nina Ricci cocktail dress she wore at a charity benefit in New York. You can hardly notice she’s six months pregnant. It looks like she just had a big lunch. I love the play of patterns on the dress, and the tulle ruffle is the perfect pregnancy foil.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marc Jacobs

I have to give it to Hailee Steinfeld: She’s hitting all the right notes on the red carpet. I was a little worried last year when she wore Converse sneakers with a Marchesa dress to the Vanity Fair Oscars party. It was cute at the time, but it’s good to see she knew not to be too cute all the time. Her style has grown up, and so has her fashion cred: She’s already done two Miu Miu campaigns. I loved this bright floral Marc Jacobs dress she wore to the Batman premiere in New York, and how she paired it with a funky wedge. Fun and chic!

Jessica Biel in Mugler

Good one, Jessica Biel. The American actress whose fashion choices, in my humble opinion, tend to fall in the expected category, mixed it up at Comic Con this year. The plastic Mugler pencil skirt looks fabulous on her. Maybe she should consider tapping into her inner French sex goddess more often! After all, her future husband did bring sexy back.

Miranda Kerr in Céline

I’m not sure if Phoebe Philo would consider this a compliment, but my grandmother had pants in almost the identical pattern to the Céline pants that Miranda Kerr wore while running errands in New York City. Not that that’s the only reason I loved them, of course. Philo’s designs are some of my girlfriends’ most prized possessions, and when you see the easy, breezy elegance on a girl like Miranda, it’s clear why.

Kyra Sedgwick at The David Letterman Show

OK, now I understand how she’s kept Kevin Bacon around for so long. Kyra Sedgwick is smoking. The body-hugging red dress she wore to tape an appearance on The David Letterman Show was absolutely fabulous. I loved the fit, and the below-the-knee hem was the perfect counterpart to the cleavage-bearing neckline.

Thandie Newton in Stella McCartney

I’m not sure if you’ve heard, but Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes got a divorce. Yeah, it’s been reported on a few blogs. Anyway, all that attention got me thinking about his movies, and then I found this picture of Thandie Newton looking seriously chic in Stella McCartney, and now I’m in the mood for a Mission Impossible marathon. Anyway, back to the dress: It’s simple and elegant, but the cut is what makes it so fabulous. The slight flair at the waste accentuates Thandie’s curves to perfection.

Alexa Chung in Louis Vuitton

Not since Patti Hearst has a beret looked so chic. And not since the Rocky movies have I had such sweatshirt envy. (Though, for much different reasons.) I loved the Louis Vuitton ensemble that Alexa Chung put together for Vuitton’s Shanghai store opening. But then again, I’d love any look with that Sprouse leopard print in it.

Olympic Uniforms for the 2012 Opening Ceremonies

When the London Olympics open on July 27th, the Parade of Nations will be our introduction to the 2012 athletes. What each team wears to the Opening Ceremonies is the stuff of much conjecture, drama, pride, gossip, and criticism. Let’s see what some of the teams will be wearing.

Ralph Lauren

Yesterday, Ralph Lauren unveiled the U.S. team uniforms for the Opening Ceremonies. They look quite traditional and patriotic, but the oversized Polo logo screams “prep school.” And then there’s the beret, which has American fashion critics howling. But the biggest part of the upset over these uniforms is the fact that they were manufactured in China.

The Opening Ceremony uniforms for the Australian team were unveiled May 3rd during Sydney Fashion Week. The suits were designed by Sportscraft with shoes by Volley. The athletes say the clothing is very comfortable, which is important as they will be wearing them for at least seven hours on July 27th. The Australian athletic uniforms were designed by Adidas; you can see them in a video presentation.
Stella McCartney (daughter of Sir Paul) designed the British athletic uniforms for Adidas and came under fire for rendering the Union Jack in blue and blue instead of blue and red. However, they look pretty tame compared to the uniforms the volunteer “ambassadors” will wear during the games. In stark contrast, the uniform by Next that Great Britain’s athletes will wear to the Opening Ceremonies is quite sedate.

Puma

The colorful yet slightly military Jamaican uniforms were designed by Cedella Marley, daughter of the late Bob Marley, in cooperation with Puma.

Reuters

Giorgio Armani designed clothing for Italy’s Olympic team, fifty pieces in all for each athlete (plus luggage), and that doesn’t even count the athletic uniforms! Armani did not design the athletic gear. The dark blue and white doesn’t broadcast patriotism, but the jackets and polo shirts have the words of the Italian national anthem embroidered on.

Bosco Sport

Spain’s uniforms were designed by Bosco Sport, a Russian company that is also doing uniforms for Russia and Ukraine. This is not sitting well with Spanish citizens. As a sponsor, Bosco is supplying the uniforms free, and some say they are worth every penny.

Bosco Sport

The Russian company Bosco Sport also designed the Russian uniforms. At the fashion unveiling in June, Aleksandr Zhukov, president of the Russian Olympic Committee, predicted that his country would take home about 25 gold medals.

INA FASSBENDER/Reuters/Landov

Unveiled in April, Germany’s uniforms by Adidas sort the sexes by putting women in pink and men in blue, and neither color is from the German flag. The matching scarves are reversible.

NZ2012

New Zealand’s uniforms were contracted to Kiwi firm Rodd and Gunn, but folks are upset that they were designed by Czech designer Irena Prikryl (who works for Rodd and Gunn in New Zealand), made of Italian textiles, and manufactured in Turkey, China, and Italy.

The uniforms for Hong Kong were designed by Kent and Curwen.

Fila

South Korea’s sailor look is by Fila, designed to recall the 1948 Olympics, in which Korea celebrated its first Olympic participation after liberation from Japan. Note the argyle socks. On the right are athletic uniforms designed by Bean Pole.

Adidas

With all the fashion designers in France, the French Olympic team curiously went to Adidas for their uniforms. The result was still understated high fashion.

The most fashionable Olympics ever

Ralph Lauren has designed the US Olympics team kit.

In true pre-Olympics style, disasters seem imminent. Opening Ceremony curtailment, security guards fiascos and even the BBC has thrown its hat into the critical ring with spoof series, Twenty Twelve, mocking the organising committee’s moves.

But when it comes to fashion, there are few who can disagree that this is lining up to be, as none other than Giorgio Armani put it, “the most fashionable Olympic Games ever”.

We’ve been told it is to be the Twitter Olympics, technology and social-media driven – but we also know that, true to form, it will be a showcase of daring British style.

Azerbaijan has cast Ermanno Scervino to dress its Olympics team.

Not one for typically stepping in line, fashion in this instance is forced to adapt to the primary concerns of performance. Sportswear, particularly at this zenith of competitive levels, comes with a gamut of critical functions – speed, movement, durability, temperature regulation, shock absorption, support.

So, for those designers more used to courting the adage ‘no pain, no gain’ and sending gazelle-like models in 6-inch heels down catwalks, the Olympics are likely to pose something of a curved ball.

Enter the team of sartorial thread-smiths who have been charged with injecting high fashion credibility into the tracks, pitches, pools, lakes and courts of East London and beyond.

Italy has Armani (pictured here) at its sartorial head, while Prada is at the helm of its sailing team outfits.

And if anyone can imbue a touch of sartorial kudos into a Lycra onesie, it is Stella McCartney.

For her interpretation of team GB’s outfits, McCartney stepped away from the all-too common bands of royal blue and regimental red, instead “dismantling” what she calls “one of the most beautiful flags in the world”.

Much white and blue and a highly-criticised lack of red later (athletes wearing red have been found to outperform others), and team GB has undergone the Stella effect.

Team GB has been given the Stella McCartney touch.

“I see many feel as strongly about the Union flag as I do! The design actually uses more red & shows more flag than any Team GB kit since ’84″, she tweeted in her defence.

The volunteers don’t have it quite so easy. Boris Johnson told the army of Olympics helpers that he hoped they didn’t feel “too ridiculous” in their fluoro pink and purple combinations. That may be impossible for some of the larger-breasted Londoners – the pattern means that a dreaded ‘pink bra’ effect is neatly achieved with no effort at all.

As dubious as some of the finished products appear, these threads are all about form over function – styling comes as second fiddle to their visibility, movement and endurance capacities.

Italian design house Ermanno Scervino has created the kit for Azerbaijan Republic athletes, combining impressive amounts of aqua, green and red in team tracksuits, and the ubiquitous blazer/corporate skirt/slacks/silk scarf combination for the ceremonial events.

Ralph Lauren – beleaguered by Chinese sweatshop accusations – has given the US Olympic team his touch, with Ceremony kit designs (reminiscent, across vast swathes of nation states, of airline uniforms) punctuated by Polo logos and preppy striped belts.

Italy has the honour of Armani leading its fashion prowess, while Prada is at the helm of the Italian sailing team’s look. The navy monochrome palette – no red, green and white here – has been supplemented with a shot of Italian nationalism by stitching words to the national anthem to the jacket lining.

Away from the demi-gods of high fashion and into the grass-roots world of street culture, Bob Marley’s daughter Cadella Marley has designed the outfits for the Jamaican team. Towering over the petite designer, Usain Bolt recently modelled the yellow and green Puma threads as overseen by the designer and singer.

For the record, Australia’s lacklustre but neat Opening Ceremony get-ups are the responsibility of Sportscraft, and we have so far seen no sign of a team umbrella – shaping up to be one of the most useful tools of the Games – in any national wardrobe mix.

Elsewhere, sports-meets-fashion fever is spreading.

Nike and Liberty have collaborated to produce a line of floral-patterned trainers and Prada has reimagined its golf styles to give them a laid-back sporty edge.

Adidas has teamed up with the Olsen twins’ label, Opening Ceremony and BMX to create suitably bandit-tinged line and Coach, stately at the best of times, have launched a wallet made of the recycled baseball mitts.

Flying the flag for British talents in other areas are a host of models who are set to take their part in the Closing Ceremony. Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Lily Cole, Stella Tennant, Lily Donaldson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Georgia May Jagger will reportedly shimmy to the tones of David Bowie’s Fashion and Rebel Rebel at the extravaganza and are expected to wear designs by the doyenne of British fashion, Vivienne Westwood alongside Stella McCartney and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

Elton John, Annie Lennox, George Michael, Pet Shop Boys, Take That and Adele are all scheduled to add their spin to the proceedings.

Then, of course, comes the Royal Family. Make no mistake, the Duchess of Cambridge’s wardrobe choices will be watched through a microscope, with predictions as to her designers of choice already doing the rounds. Alexander McQueen, Jenny Packham and those ubiquitous nude heels from LK Bennett are as sure to resurface as the rain is to pour.

Let the athletes take to the catwalk…

Speedo hopes their new “Fastskin3″ swim suit shown here will see records tumble at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Even though neither color is in Germany’s flag, that didn’t stop Adidas from sorting the sexes, with women in pink and men in baby blue.

Swimming stars such as Michael Phelps and Rebecca Adlington have already confirmed they will wear the new Speedos in competition in 2012.

Australian Olympic team members Kynan Maley, Lauren Jackson and Adam Gibson, Libby Trickett, Naomi Flood, Sarah Tait and Murray Stewart, model the official Australian Olympic Opening Ceremony uniform.

Now take a look back at Olympic fashion through the years. Swimmer Helen Norfolk of New Zealand models the 2008 team uniform.

The 2010 Czech Olympic team outfits were unveiled in a choreographed fashion show, wherein models did more than just walk the runway wearing the upcoming Vancouver Winter Games garb – looks like they posed, too!

Who said the ’80s were over? With the multicolored ringed patterns, these Czech outfits could’ve been for the 1988 games. But no! This is a glimpse of the fine duds at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

Ralph Lauren was at it again: this is the U.S. Olympic team’s 2010 Opening Ceremony outfit. The puffy jackets and slim pants provided a sporty base for more classic details like the knitted caps.

In addition to the Team USA uniforms for both the 2010 Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Lauren designed Olympic gear for fans as well, based on initial sketches that included sporty and classic details.

Polo’s Ralph Lauren was the official U.S. outfitter for the 2008 Olympic Summer Games. Here, boxer Deontay Wilder and sprinter/long jumper Brianna Glenn of the U.S. team model the Ralph Lauren-designed “village wear.”

Models wearing Beijing-themed fashion in anticipation of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Summer Games walked the runway during China Fashion Week in 2005. Three years out and they were already getting Olympics crazy!

The Chinese team’s fashion was so thought-out, they even had official makeup and hairstyles for the victory ceremonies. Here, a hairstylist incorporates the Olympic rings on a model in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Summer Games.

Brazil’s Cesar Cielo Filho, gold medal winner of the men’s 50m swimming freestyle at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Summer Games, displayed a rather unique furry creation by hair stylist Carlos Carrasco during the Hair Fashion Show in Sao Paulo.

He didn’t design the jacket, but Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani looks excited to be sporting official Torino wear as he carries a torch along with soccer player Andriy Shevchenko in 2006.

U.S. defending Olympic singles tennis champion Venus Williams looked appropriately sheepish as she unveiled her fashion design: a hat she created for McDonald’s employees to wear while serving food during the 2004 Olympic Summer Games. Tennis star, yes. Budding fashion designer? You decide.

Inspired by the upcoming 2004 Greece Olympic Summer Games, this outfit was part of a collection for the “Sport and Mode” catwalk show unveiled in Rome. But we’re not entirely sure that sewing the Olympic rings onto a flouncy coat qualifies as inspired.

Italian Olympic medalist Massimiliano Rosolino wasn’t afraid to show off his bod wearing bathing trunks with Olympic rings during the Biagiotti’s men’s fashion show in 2004.

During the Closing Ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, models presented designs by Italian designers Valentino, Versace, and Dolce and Gabbana as a tribute to Torino, Italy, the site of the following Winter Olympic Games in 2006.

In 2000, models paraded down the runway in Speedo’s Fastskin swimsuits at a show in Sydney’s Darling Harbour before the start of the Summer Olympic Games. Since most of us don’t need a split-second advantage, they included some cuter, less function-oriented swimsuits as well.

Renowned wedding gown stylist Vera Wang designed 1992 Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan’s dress (pictured), as well as a second skating dress for Kerrigan in 1994.

The 1980′s certainly had some glorious design moments. Here, American gymnasts Mary Lou Retton and Peter Vidmar celebrate their 1984 victories in classic ’80s styling: bold stripes, Members Only-styled jackets, and colorful crests.

Everyone gets a fancy outfit for the Olympics, even airline hostesses! Greek designer Yannis Tseklenis designed this look especially for Olympians of the sky with colorful interlocking rings to celebrate the games. Can you guess the era? (Answer: This photo was taken in 1971.)

Leave it to the French to design a uniform fit for the jet set. Jacques Esterel, known for whimsical couture collections, designed the look for French athletes competing in the 1964 Olympic Summer Games (Valise not included).

In 1960, hats were all the rage. The U.S. team sported matching striped ties and straw hats during the Opening Ceremony of the Rome Olympic Games.

What say there, Phinneas? You’ve got to admit, the official uniforms for U.S. athletes (from left: basketball, track, yachting and boxing) at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Summer Games were pretty cool.

The 1924 Olympic Summer Games were held in Paris and these lovely ladies donned the Olympic Gown at the race course at Longchamp. Don’t laugh … it was the style!

Celebrity Fashion: Celebrities in optical illusion dresses

Everyone from Victoria Beckham to Kim Kardashian has been spotted in an optical illusion dress. Here we look at the best.

Celebrity fashion: Kim Kardashian has some gorgeous curves which are only complimented by this white dress with black detailing.

Celebrity fashion: The white and black optical illusion dress is clearly a favourite of Kim Kardashian’s – and we can see why. Gorge.

Celebrity fashion: We know Kate Moss is a model and everything, but we cannot get over how stunning she looks in this cutaway dress. We’re seriously swooning.

Celebrity fashion: Model Yasmin Le Bon went for the full-length version of Kate Moss’ optical illusion dress. We think it’s just as striking.

Celebrity fashion: Alicia Keys also adopted the simple monochrome look.

Celebrity fashion: Amy Childs launched her Spring/Summer 2012 clothing collection, including this summery pink and black optical illusion dress. We love the bright colour and can picture it with sky-high heels on a night out.

Celebrity fashion: Kate Winslet shows how to work the red carpet in this stunning cream Stella McCartney optical illusion dress. The neutral tones look amazing with her blonde hair and English rose skin.

Celebrity fashion: Kate Winslet has also worn this stunning red and black optical illusion dress. With amazing curves like hers, the look is a winner every time.

Celebrity fashion: Kate Winslet cannot get enough of her Stella McCartney optical illusion dresses. This polka dot number has become iconic.

Celebrity fashion: Gloria Estefan donned the same Stella McCartney dress as Kate Winslet, but teamed hers with a cream bolero.

Celebrity fashion: Victoria Beckahm donned this optical illusion dress way back in 2009. What a trend setter.

Celebrity fashion: Dionne Bromfield told Yahoo! omg! recently that she won’t be dressing provocatively until she’s at least 18. We think her sense of style is perfect.

TOWIE’s Frankie Essex wore this cream optical illusion dress which looked similar to Kate Winslet’s – except without the whopping designer price tag!

Celebrity fashion: We like that Liv Tyler made a move away from monochrome optical illusion dresses, choosing a blue one instead.

Celebrity fashion: A little more subtle than some of the other optical illusion offerings, Penelope Cruz went for this navy blue dress with a velvet section in the middle and black panelling at the sides. It matches her skin tone perfectly.

Celebrity fashion: Following in Penelope Cruz’s footsteps, Louise Redknapp donned the same navy blue optical illusion dress for an event.

Celebrity fashion: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley looked utterly gorgeous in her monochrome optical illusion number.

Celebrity fashion: TOWIE’s Sam Faiers tried out the look on a recent night out. Instead of simple monochrome, Sam went for a pretty printed dress.

5 Top Fashion Trends for Spring/Summer 2012

Malene Birger

Since Phil saw his shadow this week thus predicting another six weeks of winter I thought it only fitting to review the top five fashion trends for the 2012 Spring/Summer season, I am showing some of my favorite eco-conscious designers and the pieces that I am coveting.

Louis Vuitton

1.  Black is back and I am seeing it in every collection.  Being a bit of a sweater myself especially in the summer, this trend makes me particularly happy.

2. Peach or should I say tangerine, maybe it is something in between the two on the color wheel but it is strong and actually for a non-color wearing person I likey, it is feminine, it looks cool and summery and I think it could be a great neutral for the season.

Stella McCartney

3.  Eyelet and lace was strong for spring and summer.  Both Stella McCartney and Louis Vuitton had some AH-mazing pieces, again the feminine and pretty trend continues – perfect for a summer wedding or a special date.

4. Stripes returned this spring but with a bit of a

twist from the tried and true navy and white.  Malene Briger showed stripes in fun colors that will make you feel like spring is here just by looking at them.

5. Colorblocking is still around from the fall but this season think bright colors and light fabric, word to the wise wear this trend carefully  or you could look like a vibrant jigsaw puzzle.

Malene Birger

Eco-Fashion – Now for Your Mobile Phone

Eco-fashion is big and getting bigger and now you can wrap up your mobile phone in sustainable style too. Hailed as a ‘better, smarter, greener choice’ for the style conscious consumer – e-pouch have just launched their 2012 range of fashion foward, planet-friendly cell pouches.

As the glamorous world of haute couture continues to embrace eco-friendly fashion with many of the industry’s big names creating breathtaking and exquisite designs, it’s finally time to put to rest the old image of eco-friendly clothing being badly fitting and uncomfortable to wear.

Eco-fashion made big news during this year’s Award Season as designers Tom Ford and Stella McCartney along with Chanel, Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent signed up for Livia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge to create unique, eco-friendly dresses to be worn on the red carpet

Oscar Best Actress Meryl Streep wore Lanvin’s first-ever eco-friendly gown and The Artist actress Missi Pyle wore a cruelty-free, mineral-dyed “peace”-silk gown by Valentino Delfino.

Also getting the eco-fashion treatment are, of course, a host of shoe, handbag and jewellery labels and now, with its new 2012 range of eco-friendly pouches, you can wrap up your mobile in sustainable style too with an e-pouch.

Created by UK design company Anokimobi, the e-pouch range of phone pouches and wallets not only look good in a mix of vibrant colours and striking prints but are constructed from 100% organic and recycled materials. Incorporating clever design features such as discreet pockets and easy access features to keep credit cards, coins and headphones safe too, the e-pouch range is promoted as a ‘better, smarter, greener choice’ for the consumer and doesn’t come with an expensive ‘green price tag’.

Tom Tranter, Director of Anokimobi explains: “We have been creating products that are eco-friendly for a number of years and wanted to produce stylish and planet-friendly phone cases and covers too. The e-pouch range is aimed at the tech savvy women and men who want to make a style statement but in a conscious way. We are very careful with our eco-credentials; dyes, manufacturing methods and labour force are thoroughly vetted. The e-pouches themselves are made with a combination of organic biodegradable cotton and other eco-friendly materials; from the outer fabrics and recycled filler, through to the recycled plastic strengthening elements. There is something for everyone in our range, all of it designed to minimise the impact on the planet – we call it style with soul.”

Comprising fourteen core designs, the range is suitable for cell phones, cameras and MP3 players and is the only phone pouch range to contain Biomaster® anti-bacterial silver ions to reduce everyday germs; a potential health hazard that hit the headlines last year.

About Anokimobi Ltd:
Anokimobi started its life in 2002 designing and producing mobile phone accessories with a twist; offering clients bespoke wrist straps, phone charms, lanyards and pouches. Quickly gaining a reputation for innovation, within 6 months of trading Anokimobi was working with clients such as BBC, MTV, Burger King and Virgin Trains and later went on to design products for most of the telecoms and mobile phone companies including Nokia, O2, Orange and Vodaphone.

As its reputation for design excellence grew, Anokimobi was increasingly commissioned to design and manufacture products outside of the mobile phone market and in 2007 it began actively promoting and pioneering a range of greener products for its retail and promotional clients.

In 2011 it launched the e-pouch range of pouches and skins to offer a greener alternative to the mobile phone covers, cases, pouches and skins on the market. Like designers in the fashion industry who are increasingly designing beautiful, planet-friendly clothing, the e-pouch range of pouches and cases were created to be stylish and functional while using the greenest possible production methods and materials.

The Brit Awards 2012: Rihanna’s Givenchy Gown, Lana Del Rey’s Win PLUS Adele’s Drama

Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen

So after the Brit Awards in London last night, all anyone can talk about here at Grazia HQ is Adele. The gorgeous songstress certainly stole the show, kicking off the night in a sheer black Burberry dress for her red carpet walk, before switching into a twinkling LBD for a sterling performance of Rolling In The Deep. Having swept up an impressive six awards at the Grammys, she continued her success in Blighty, picking up not only the Best British Female Solo Artist gong, but also the Album of the Year award.

The controversy of the night came when James Corden was forced to cut Adele’s acceptance speech short because Blur were due to perform an epic ELEVEN. MINUTE. set. Eek. The singer was less than impressed, saying: ‘Are you about to cut me off?!’ before flipping the middle finger. She later clarified that the gesture wasn’t aimed at fans: ‘I was about to thank the British public for their support,’ she said. ‘They cut me off, sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.’ Too right!

Aside from our Adele-loving, other fashion hits came courtesy of Rihanna who swathed her curves in a Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci stunner. She teamed the crystal-embellished taupe gown with matching Givenchy diamante heels, brown leather gloves and Solange Azagury- Partridge jewels. During the ceremony, the birthday girl took to the stage to pick up the Best International Female award, telling the crowd: ‘At times when I feel misunderstood, my fans always remind me that it’s OK to be myself, and I’ll never forget you for that.’ Aww. But we were most impressed by the blonde mass of curls she sported for her raunchy rendition of We Found Love. It’s totes Tina Turner-esque, no?

Jessie J looked rather Rihanna-esque herself, wearing a dramatic red Falguni & Shane Peacock gown that cheekily showed off her pants and had us remembering the fantastical Elie Saab number Ri-Ri wore at the AMAs back in 2010.

Lana Del Rey was another lady in red. She backed British by wearing an off-the-shoulder corseted gown by Vivienne Westwood – a fitting choice for the winner of the Best International Breakthrough Act award. It certainly topped off a fab week for the star who unveiled her namesake Mulberry bag on Sunday.

Kylie Minogue also went the elegant route courtesy of a cobalt blue floor-sweeper by Yves Saint Laurent, Millie Mackinstosh looked stunning in a Rachel Gilbert Angelina gown in emerald, aptly accessorised with her new boyfriend Professor Green (wearing Givenchy, dontcha know), and Pixie Lott played it safe in a long lace Dolce & Gabbana dress.

In the leggy leg corner, we have Victoria Pendleton who hit the red carpet in a zip-up Krystof Strozyna dress teamed with a pink clutch and and Miquella jewels, while Caroline Flack cracked out her pins in a pair of short-shorts and matching blazer.

But our fave was undoubtedly Florence Welch. She brought a touch of high-glam to the proceedings thanks to her exquisite Alexander McQueen gown with a rise-and-fall skirt from the Spring Summer 2012 catwalk. She accessorised the ethereal look with metallic wedges and elaborate gold hand jewels. For her mesmirising performance [above], the red-head opted for more McQueen – this time, a gold embroidered creation with a beaded chiffon sheer skirt inspired by the same collection.

And let’s give three cheers for Coldplay, who scooped the award for Best British Band, having also won the award in 2001 and 2003. Gwyneth must be so proud. Chris Martin surprised the crowd earlier in the night by playing the piano for Noel Gallagher, thus reigniting our lust for them both.

The Top Resort 2012 Trends

With so many newbies (Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra) joining established Cruise veterans (Michael Kors, Chanel), the number of designers presenting Resort collections this year topped out at nearly 200. That’s a pretty hefty number — one that pushes Resort from a mere rest stop between two big seasons to a definitive moment all on its own. It also means more outfits than ever for whatever holiday-fêting, jet-setting, beach-lounging, city-cruising adventure one has in mind. Here’s a look at some of the most dominant themes to emerge during the biggest Resort season yet.

Paris Fall/Winter 2011-2012

Paris Fall/Winter 2011-2012

PARIS – FashionTV takes you live to the streets of Paris for Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2011/2012 and the sophisticated elegance of shows like Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Viktor & Rolf, Lanvin, Balmain, Yves St. Laurent, and more. VIPs like Nicole Richie, Daisy Lowe, and Kanye West came to the big shows like Jean-Paul Gaultier.

At the Vivienne Westwood show, models’ faces are covered in war paint and the strong women look like warriors in elaborate clothing. Things get even more fiery when we had to the Viktor & Rolf show where models faces are painted blood red and the clothes, in both black and ecru colors, looked like armor on their bodies. “We wanted to create a glamorous fashion crusade,” said Dutch designer Viktor Horsting. Things get playful at Sonia Rykiel, where models drapse down the runway in pinkish-red lips, pink furs, plaid, and prints next to what looks like a wired backyard fence. Rochas is sophisticated and quietly bold as usual. Kenzo, with Arizona Muse headlining, is a steam of a camouflage colors and kaleidoscope prints. Stella McCartney has beautiful form-fitting dresses with billowy sleeves and unique, playful textures. Gareth Pugh is edgy and dark with black leather, bold shoulders, and tough makeup. Balmain brings out big models like Carmen Kass and Freja Beha Erichsen, with bold and futuristic designs. Nina Ricci is pretty in dark, Fall colors. The collection included historical references in unique color combinations. Chloe has a conservative vibe but with color blocking. Yves St. Laurent was sophisticated, with a perverse bourgeois, one audience member describes. It has a slight sex appeal. Valentino, headlined by model Ruby Aldridge, was toned down but beautiful as always with lush fabrics. Jean-Paul Gaultier’s show included special guest, French actress Valerie Lemercier and made a statement when models donned gray wigs like grandmas but wore the designer’s stellar outfits. Gaultier described it as a little girl who wanted to be like their mother, with a 60s and 70s feel. Lanvin’s collection had sort of an outdoorsy Amish meets cowboy feel at first, but quickly picked up with Lanvin’s gorgeous minidresses and skirt suits. Thierry Mugler took our breath away when Lady Gaga smoked a cigarette on stage as other models followed in dark looks.

Appearances: Paloma Faith, Daisy Lowe, La Roux, Hildie Gifstad, Vivienne Westwood, Karlie Kloss, Viktor Horsting, Rolf Snoeren, Sarah Blomqvist, Sonia Rykiel, Ruby Aldridge, Karl Lagerfeld, Monika “Jac” Jagaciak, Kasia Wrobel, Zuzanna Bijoch, Alana Zimmer, Designer for Rochas, Arizona Muse, Melissa Tammerijn, Antonio Marras, Elettra Wiedemann, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Jourdan Dunn, Natasha Poly, Karmen Pedaru, Stella McCartney, Gareth Pugh designer), Freja Beha Erichsen, Magdalena Frackowiak, Carmen Kass, Anabela Belikova, Sasha Pivovarova, Joan Smalls, Isabeli Fontana, Peter Copping, Julia Saner, Ginta Lapina, Daphne Groeneveld, Chloe designer, Ron Wood, Hailey Clauson, Stefano Pilati, Valentino designers, Nicole Richie, Karolina Kurkova, Alber Elbaz, Ken Downing, Lady Gaga, Nicola Formichetti, Anna Dello Russo, Coco Rochas

We’re Positively Dotty For Fall’s Hot Polka Dot Trend!

Don’t worry dolls, you’re not seeing spots–it’s just a parade of pretty polka dots, courtesy of your favorite designers and celebrities! The look is absolutely everywhere right now…

Supermodel Natalia Vodianova recently embraced one of the chicest iterations of the trend, in a laser-cut leather one shoulder dress by British designer David Koma.

The look was all over the fall 2011 runways, at Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, and Stella McCartney (pictured from left), as well as Rodarte, Max Mara, and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

The look has made its way from catwalk to the red carpet, too, on celebrities like Olivia Palermo, Kate Winslet, and Beyoncé.

Coming round to the idea of polka dots

Spot on: (clockwise from top left) Box bag £32, Topshop (topshop.com) Skirt £1,390, David Koma (browns fashion.com) Jumper £40 Monki (monki.com) Skirt £252, Diane von Furstenberg (matchesfashion.com) Tote £170, Marni (marni.com) Dress £49, Mango (mango.com) Shirt £430, Ostwald Helgason (brownsfashion.com).

I’m all embracing when it comes to wearing prints – florals, stripes, geometric patterns, checks, childish animals, landscapes, slogans – anything goes. Somewhere in my sock drawer is a pair of nude stockings that have penises with wings printed all over them. I wear them underneath a sheer black skirt that I lift up after a few too many drinks as an inane party trick.

I digress. The point is I’ll wear just about any print. Except when it comes to the humble polka dot. Somehow, anything dotty and I have had a sketchy relationship. The mere word associations are enough of a deterrent – dot-matrix printers and their shrill noises, teachers in sixth form who used to say my outfits were a little bit “dotty” (I think it was their kind of way of saying: “You look like a lunatic”), Dot Cotton from EastEnders and her terrifying raised eyebrows. More specifically, when the polka dot is applied to clothing, for some reason I find it difficult not to see terrible reproductions of 50s wiggle or swing dresses for the retro-gazing connoisseur who thinks the drudgery of a 1950s housewife is far preferable to living in the present day. See? I’m already fudging explaining why the polka dot and I don’t get along by resorting to snide remarks about 1950s aficionados. I’ll backtrack and apologise. I hope you’re well and truly happy with your record player and your hostess trolley.

The polka dot is back in disguised form, though, this autumn/winter. At the Marc Jacobs show, it came as plastic cabochons on a ponyskin sweater and as rubberised dots on taut pencil skirts. At young London designer David Koma’s show, it fell in op-art formation on body-conscious dresses and in circles laser-cut out of leather dresses with the odd pompom placed here and there to emphasise the point. At Stella McCartney it fell daintily on a sheer white dress and matching sheer trousers, which looked fresh when poking out of an oversized mannish blazer.

I’ve also just come back from a trip to Tokyo where the polka dot reigns supreme (it’s probably down to the eccentric female doyennes of Japan, designer Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons or the artist Yayoi Kusama) and they come as fascinating layers, mixed artfully with other prints.

All of this has left me with no choice but to confront these newly bejazzled dots to see if I can overcome my inexplicable last print frontier. They are almost undetectable on a monotone boiled wool jumper. They come in slightly misshapen form so that the polka dot’s usual perfect roundness is pleasingly messed up. They come with distressed edges and dip-dyed effects. These are polka dots with special FX and feel that much more appealing than the Minnie Mouse dotty frocks of yesteryear. I’m now fully prepared to be chased down the street by the old-school polka-dot gang of women with perfectly coiffed hair and red lipstick. Perhaps our dots can join together somehow.

Trending: Polka dots

Championed by Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs on the catwalks, stylish celebrities are already embracing this season’s spotty trend.

Designer Stella McCartney made fun spot shapes the focal point of her autumn/winter 2011 collection. Textured circles worked over sheer fabrics across a monochrome palette ensured the result was one of ultimate sophistication.

British actress Kate Winslet was one of the first starlets to step out in McCartney’s figure-hugging dresses, stealing the spotlight at the premiere of her new TV series Mildre Pierce in the process.

American designer Marc Jacobs is one of the most influential names on the catwalk calendar. Where he goes, others copy. So expect polka dots a plenty, on skirts tops and even fur-trimmed collars and gloves, coming to a high street near you.

Ever ahead of the style curve, TV presenter Alexa Chung embraced minute spots with this effortless navy dress, contrasting some Celine arm candy for maximum effect.

London Fashion Week designer David Koma played with proportions as he fused spots of all sizes – and guises – together.

Style maven Olivia Palermo mastered two trends in one with this pretty, mullet-hemmed dot-print dress by Bensoni.

Cosy winter coats at Diane Von Furstenberg were adorned with a grey polka-print.

Even shoes, as seen on this Paris Fashion Week goer, haven’t escaped a sprinkling of spots.

Radio personality Fearne Cotton opts for the classic navy and white spot colour pairing with this sleeveless shirt.

This chic fashion editor works a covetable monochrome look with a sheer, layered dotty skirt.

Lanvin’s elegant cocktail dresses get the spot treatment.

Actress Kirsten Dunst dips a toe in the trend with this discreet black and white top.

London Fashion Week designer Louise Gray decorated the faces of the models in her autumn/winter 2011 catwalk show with multicoloured spots for a fashiony face-paint.

Actress Olivia Wilde miniature dot-print dress was courtesy of Gucci.

At Paul Smith, trousers were livened up with a grey circle motif.

Diminutive actress turned fashion designer Ashley Olsen’s voluminous dress looks almost two-tone thanks to its sheer sleeves.
