Select female fashion icons and celebrities (the fashion risk-takers) have worn snippets of menswear here and there in the past, regardless of whether or not they were in season, and have somewhat “rocked” it; but this season, everyone wants a piece of it.
I believe that everyone is getting into it this season because rather than walking into a men’s store, finding an outfit and trying to make it yours, the menswear is tailored and altered to fit a female, and sold in female stores. So, even the conservative female gets curious, and tries it on. Also, in this case, rather than wearing the complete tuxedo or suit, one can wear pieces of it – like a tuxedo blazer with skinny pants/jeans.
I LOVE this! For one, because it’s allowing people to take risks that they normally wouldn’t because of the fear of looking “masculine.” This time, “girly girls” (yes we are all girls, no matter how old!) can wear it and still feel sexy and fashionable…because I’ve learned that ultimately, females want to look sexy (sexy defined as trendy, excitingly appealing, glamorous, and/or interesting).
Another reason why I love this is because I am not an overly feminine female (although some naïve and annoying friends of mine will beg to differJ). I like my short dresses, don’t get me wrong, because I love my legs (yes! I have fabulous legs, agree with me or not) but for the most part, when I am not going clubbing, I would rather be seen in pants and a jacket!p>

Ok so there is the basic version…like what I am doing in the pictures above, Blazer – T-shirt/camisole – Pants/Jeans.
But the more pronounced version is the complete tux. (which I would model for you but can’t quite afford the one I want just yet)
Calvin Klien Tuxedo
Ashley Olsen in Calvin Klein Tuxedo
I put both those pictures up to show you not only another way the exact same suit could be worn, but also the fit on different body types.

And there are these versions that completely blow my socks off!

Of Course I couldn’t do this post without paying tribute to Janelle Monae

YES YES! Everyone says she wears too much black and white, and it’s boring etc etc…I Like It!!

Janelle Monae, who already made tuxedos her trademark, probably became a trendsetter as more and more female celebrities started to try different variations of this outfit on them.
