    HOT or NOT: Cannes 2012

We review the red carpet fashion at this year’s Cannes film festival.

It’s that time of the year again for the Cannes Film Festival! We took front seat at the red carpet arrivals during the opening ceremony.

HOT: Eva Herzigova looks exquisite in her crystal-covered Dolce and Gabbana gown. Although, we do think that Chopard necklace might just be overdoing it a little.

HOT: Everything about Eva Longoria looks perfect! The mermaid silhouette emphasizes the actress’ curves in all the right places. Longoria wore Marchesa.

HOT: Fan Bingbing chose a tradition design for her red carpet frock- designed by Christopher Bu and fashioned with emerald Chopard jewels.

NOT: While many may disagree with us, Frieda Pinto doesn’t score top fashion points on our list. It’s not that we hate the dress but we find the irrelevant puff around her waist area quite distracting.

HOT: Jane Fonda channels elegance in her Atelier Versace gown without looking like she’s trying too hard.

NOT: Jessica Chastain’s beauty is immaculate but this gown does not do her justice at all! In fact, why in the world does she need pockets for in the first place?

NOT: There’s always someone who tries too hard and on this red carpet, it’s actress Phoebe Price. We can’t keep our eyes off that unflattering pattern and that tumour-like flower on her head.

NOT: Has Denise Rich been shopping in the bargain bin again? The only thing we love on her is those fabulous heels!

HOT: Angela Ismailos looks like an impersonation of the black swan but oddly enough, we find the black lace and tulle quite beautiful.

HOT: Hofit Golan looks stunning in a full-length bejewelled one-piece gown. Her hair is kept loose and simple to frame her face and allowing her dress to speak for itself.

NOT: Actress Marie Gillain’s outfit choice for the red carpet is a disappointment. Not only is the colour typical, the design reminds us of an old prom night dress.

HOT: The fact that Melita Toscan Du Plantier chose an unconventional colour to wear on the red carpet and picked the perfect cut and gown design, we say she deserves to be on our HOT list.

HOT: Actress Hao Lei’s dress is indeed simple except for the sleeves but to us it reflects a quiet confidence.

NOT: French TV Presenter Karine Lima’s red carpet gown fails miserably to appeal to us. Why? Think ‘ostrich’. We’re pretty sure it says ‘elegant’ for the dress code on the invitation and not ‘bird’.

NOT: French actress Virginie Ledoyen may be playing it a bit too safe. Perhaps if she had at least let down her hair in soft waves, it would’ve created more sex appeal.

NOT: And introducing another actress who comes off as trying too hard is Catherine Jacob. Her outfit is an absolute mess and so we say, fire the stylist!

NOT: Actress Vahina Giocante gown reflects a lazy attempt at dressing up for the red carpet. Draping can be classy and sexy but this is just a big yawn.

HOT: Singer Lana Del Rey’s black dress is somewhat sensual and alluring despite its simplicity.

HOT: Diane Kruger must’ve felt the pressure of looking absolutely flawless with being a Jury member of the 65th Cannes Film Festival because she left us in awe of her beauty on the red carpet. The star wore a Jean-Paul Gaultier design. It’s no wonder she was chosen to play ‘Helen of Troy’.

HOT: Argentine-French actress Berenice Bejo wore a multi-layered red gown by Louis Vuitton. We think everyone can agree that red is most definitely her colour.

NOT: Is French actress Frederique Bel attempting a Rihanna? We’re pretty sure you remember what we thought of it- that she’s trying too hard. There is nothing sexy about revealing a little too much on the red carpet.

The Worst Fashion Trends of All Time

Popular styles may come and go, but some fashion trends stick out in our memory as particularly awful. Whether you wore these embarrassing trends yourself or merely enjoy laughing at outdated photos, we’re presenting the worst fashion trends of all time. Let us know which ones you find the most offensive. By Joanna Douglas, Shine Staff.

    Shoulder pads
These sewn-in garment enhancements swept through the 1980s like a plague infecting every blouse, dress, and blazer. Alexis Colby, the fictional character played by Joan Collins on “Dynasty,” may be their reigning queen. Shoulder pads made a brief recent comeback thanks to Lady Gaga’s bizarre costumes, but overall they are still shunned.

    Harem pants
We all made fun of MC Hammer’s parachute pants back in 1990, but in recent years everyone from Gwen Stefani to Heidi Klum have sworn by their drop-crotch pants. We think they look like you’re wearing a diaper.

    Fannypacks
These unflattering waist pouches have always been a “fashion don’t” commonly associated with tourists. Occasionally celebrities like Rihanna will wear designer fannypacks, which seem even more absurd.

    Ed Hardy
With fans like Jon Gosselin and the cast of “Jersey Shore” Ed Hardy gear acts sort of like a radar telling you who to avoid at all costs.

    Bare midriff
Crop tops have been around since the ’60s and stars like Madonna got ladies exposing their tummies in the ’80s, but pop stars like Christina Aguilera rarely wore full-length shirts in the late ’90s and early ’00s. No wonder “8 minute abs” videos were so popular.

    Saggy pants
Hip-hop artists in the ’90s started sagging and guys everywhere followed suit. Government officials have tried to ban sagging by law, but during the 2008 election Barack Obama said he felt it was a waste of time. “Having said that,” Obama told MTV, “brothers should pull up their pants. You are walking by your mother, your grandmother, your underwear is showing. What’s wrong with that? Come on. Some people might…

    Fancy track suits
Adidas warm ups are still considered classic, but the early 2000s was all about Juicy Couture. Some ladies preferred terry cloth, many were velour-loyalists, and others liked words written across their butts. You can thank Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, and Lindsay Lohan for the still-present sweatpants in public craze….

    Trucker Hats
These foam front/mesh back baseball hats have been around forever, but we can thank Ashton Kutcher, Justin Timberlake, and Von Dutch for making them insanely popular in the early 2000s.

    Furry boots
Rapper Flo Rida may have swooned over girls in the “boots with the fur,” but we think they make ordinary humans look like a Muppet. Or in Snooki’s case, part poodle.

    Leisure suits
These 1970s suits are made of polyester and often have oversized collars, flared legs, and come in a variety of nauseating colors. Funny to look at in photos, terrifying if they ever make a comeback.

    Scrunchies
In the late ’80s most girls had at least a dozen scrunchies in different fabrics (at least one was velvet) to match with different outfits. American Apparel has tried to revive them, but thankfully most women are now too ashamed to wear them in public.

    Popped collars
Deliberately wearing an upturned collar was a style in the ’50s that made a huge resurgence in the ’80s thanks to “The Official Preppy Handbook.” In recent years, high school and college kids took to wearing multiple layers of colorful polos with popped collars, perhaps the worst incarnation to date.

    Sneakers that exercise for you
Since the Kardashians would willingly endorse toilet paper (no, really, they have!) we’re not surprised they partnered with Skechers Shape Ups, the sneakers that supposedly tone your body as you walk. It didn’t take long for experts to confirm they’re not only a hoax, but they can actually damage your ankles.

    Pacifiers
During the ’90s rave days, people sucked on colorful pacifiers like infants. Apparently this was to prevent teeth grinding when on drugs like Ecstasy, but soon there were pacifier necklaces rings and earrings too.

    Clear bra straps
We know they’re clear, but we still see them and they look silly. Courtney Stodden wears them, so that’s reason enough to stop. Please go strapless or wear a garment that covers your bra straps so this trend can finally die.

    Visible thongs
Combine the popularity of lowrise denim and thongs (thanks, SisQo) and stretchy colorful panties were poking out of jeans everywhere. Bum cleavage is typically not appreciated in public, so we were thrilled when high-rise jeans made a comeback.

    Baby barrettes
These old school plastic Goody barrettes are adorable for kids under five, but in the ’90s Courtney Love and fellow riot grrrls inspired teens to adopt the juvenile accessory.

    Gladiator sandals
Subtle straps are fine, but a few years ago Gladiator sandals were on steroids. Check out this Chanel pair on Mary-Kate Olsen. They would make for some tragic tan lines and blisters.

    Baby backpacks
In “Clueless,” Alicia Silverstone’s character asks, “Do you prefer fashion victim or ensembly challenged?” We might ask her the same thing for rocking a teeny tiny furry backpack that holds nothing more than a wallet, cell phone, and lipstick.

5 Tips For Stretching Your Clothing Budget – Cute Tops, Mix & Match Items & More

A few years back when I was single, it wasn’t uncommon for me to spend hundreds of dollars a month on new clothes. These days with a family, a mortgage, and living credit card free, my clothing budget is a lot more modest. My priorities have changed from the latest trends, to more practical items for work and chasing kids. I’ve learned to stretch my clothes and my dollars a lot more to make room in my life for other things. Here are a few frugal tips to get more out of your clothing budget too.

Think Mix & Match Look for cute tops that can have multiple uses, like worn by itself, but also look nice worn under a sweater or jacket, or over a tank top or cami. For pants and skirts, stick with basic combos that can be combined with different sweaters, shirts and tops for different looks and outfits. Not Everything Has a Season While there are always the hottest trends every season, look for nice items you like that can be worn longer than a few months, and again next year.

Basic Musts A few items that nearly everyone needs are a great fitting pair of jeans, a pair of black slacks and/or a black skirt, a couple camisoles or tank tops in basic colors (like white, black, or cream) and black and brown shoes that can be worn with nearly any outfit. You can then build a wardrobe out from there.

Let’s Hear it for the Boys! Boyfriend style jeans and big shirts are hot right now, and they’re also comfy for days around the house and running errands. However you don’t necessarily have to get them in the women’s department. Don’t hesitate to shop your guy’s closet, or hit your local men’s store or department for cute items too. They’ve got some great stuff – and are usually much cheaper!

Consign for Extra Cash Consignment stores are a great place to score deals on new and gently used clothing, and you can also earn from them as well! Got old clothes in your closet you haven’t worn for years? If they’re in great shape, consider consigning them for some extra cash or store credit. This is a great way to get a few extra bucks, and get some new clothing in the process. I just earned $70 this month consigning my old maternity clothes.

    Yummy Mummies of 2012

Supermodels, sport stars and famous celebs – we present the hottest and most beautiful supermoms of this year.

These ladies have inspired, bedazzles and made our jaws drop in awe of their achievements – not only in their field of ‘expertise’, but also as a mother. In conjunction with Mother’s Day, we’ve rounded up our top selections of supermoms in sports, fashion and Hollywood who’ve proved to us once again, you can really have it all!

    Jennie Finch
Sure, softball is a poor man’s baseball, but it has the hottest female athlete according to a poll done by ESPN in Jennie Finch. One of the most popular (and hottest, of course) female athletes in the world, she broke many hearts when she married Major League Baseball pitcher Casey Daigle in 2005, and the pair welcomed their son Ace in 2006. Jennie and hubby have since had another baby together.

    Malia Jones
Well, if you are wondering, yes, pro surfer Malia Jones is also a model. She has appeared in more than a dozen covers and has been named one of the ’50 Most Beautiful People’ by People magazine, and one of America’s ’10 Sexiest Athletes’ by Esquire. In 2009, she and her now-separated pro surfer husband welcomed a baby boy named Spike.

    Carrie Small
The 5′ 10′ Carrie Small has been introduced to us as the ‘Hottest Mom of the Lingerie Football League’, and really, who are we to argue? The 32-year-old hottie, who plays for the Tampa Bay Breeze, has a 10-year-old son, but what we really like about Carrie is that she plays football – in her lingerie! You can’t get any better than that.

    Gisele Bundchen
We knew that whenever one of the hottest women in the world got pregnant, she would automatically be guaranteed a place on this list. Gisele is clearly that woman, and one could almost hear the collective gasp of shock and admiration around the world when Gisele regained her famous bod just months after giving birth to Benjamin Reid Brady.

    Kate Moss
Motherhood hasn’t slowed Kate Moss down one bit. The mother of Lila Grace Moss has seen her profile rise once more in a year that has seen her get hitched in a much hyped wedding to rocker Jamie Hince, and walk the runway for brands like Chanel and Louis Vuitton.

    Miranda Kerr
Just like Gisele, Miranda became the object of many a woman’s envy when she flaunted her curvier, sexier figure on the most public stage of all – the Victoria’s Secret runway – almost immediately after giving birth to son Flynn with hubby Orlanda Bloom. Judging by the way she strutted down that runway, Miranda was definitely aware of how banging she looked.

    Gwen Stefani
The rockstar mum keeps it real when it comes to keeping her body yummy, “Maintaining my post-baby body is a daily struggle. I’d like to have no rules and eat what I want, but I’ve learned over the years that I’m so disappointed when I can’t wear the clothes I want to wear.”

    Jessica Alba
How did the actress get back her incredible body after baby no. 2? By working out even while pregnant and doing 45 minutes of cardio every day. Of course, it also helps to be a Hollywood star with calorie-controlled meals delivered on a daily basis.

    Kate Beckinsale
Could the secret to Kate Beckinsale’s beauty be tea? The actress reportedly starts each day with 4 cups of green tea and has a realistic view on maintaining her figure. She says, “I’m not aiming to be Gisele. And I’d hate to be one of those people who won’t allow themselves a slice of birthday cake.”

    Jennifer Lopez
Maybe having a boyfriend 18 years her junior helps J. Lo retain that youthful glow. That aside, the diva admits that she works hard to maintain her body with diet and exercise.

Met Ball 2012: Hits and misses

See all the glitz and glam from the red carpet.

Carey Mulligan was a fashion hit in a custom two-tone gold-and-silver Prada halter dress covered with paillettes. With such a busy dress she kept her hair and make-up simple and accessories to a minimum, while also proudly showing off her wedding ring.

Backless dresses were very popular on the red carpet. And it was the perfect style for Karolina Kurkova, Emily Blunt, Cameron Diaz and Renée Zellweger to pose it up a storm.

Lea Michele, Gisele Bündchen and Lana Del Rey bought the glitz to the red carpet with sequin dresses.

Kristen Bell and Eva Mendes added a lovely pop of colour in their orange gowns.

    Kristen Bell

Marion Cotillard and Rooney Mara showed how you can do lace well.

Although Chloë Sevigny is known for her quirky style, it was surprising to see Elizabeth Banks’ style choice Banks who made a surprise style choice as she rocked a Mary Katrantzou dress. Both ladies were looking very cool.

    Elizabeth Banks

Kate Bosworth wowed in Prada, while Mary-Kate Olsen and Rihanna both opted for full-length gowns.

Sofia Vergara, Camilla Belle, and Gwyneth Paltrow looked simply stunning in silver but the usually stylish Dakota Fanning failed to wow in her Louis Vuitton gown.

Cate Blanchett looked stunning in an Alexander McQueen black feather gown with a dramatic ostrich hem while Scarlett Johansson was a style miss for us in a gold off-the-shoulder Dolce & Gabbana gown.

Lily Collins, Claire Danes and Amy Adams all looked totally chic in their white gowns.

Solange Knowles, January Jones and Emma Roberts stepped into spring with their varying shades of yellow.

Red has proved to be a popular shade for red carpet events this year. But while Emma Stone and Hilary Swank got it very right we’re not too keen on the shapeless dresses worn by Kirsten Dunst and Jamie King.

Jessica Biel worked a plunging deep V-neckline satin dress with jade green stone embellishments while Sarah Jessica Parker covered up in this floral print dress from Valentino.

Nina Dobrev and Beyoncé went for full on drama with couture gowns.

Oh no, what were Christina Ricci, Kristen Stewart and Florence Welch thinking. The usually ultra-stylish ladies were all fashion misses with these odd outfits.

Celebs Step Out in Short Suits

Kate Winslet (Pascal Le Segretain/Getty Images)

Kate Winslet, Beyonce, and Amanda Seyfried have all rocked the shorts suit look with stunning results. This is one celebrity fashion trend that manages to be sexy, sophisticated, and playful all at once, as well as an ideal way for ladies with gorgeous gams to show them off! And worn the right way, short suits can be dressed up for places you normally wouldn’t consider sporting shorts, such as to the office or out for dinner. However, designers Liz Lange and Jane Wagman, founders of the shopping website Shopafrolic, advise that unlike neons and floral prints, this spring trend isn’t for everyone. “Done right it can be an adorable and sexy look, but done wrong … it can be oh-so wrong,” they told omg!. “When it comes to fashion, we typically think that there is a way almost every body type can pull off a trend and most don’t require that you be toothpick thin to look great. Sadly, this trend is not one of those.” The stylish duo of Lange and Wagman, who also happen to be sisters, revealed that short suits are so tricky that they even steer clear of them, instead opting for shorts without a jacket. “Shorts suits are really all about legs,” they continued. “We all have our best body attributes and if long, lean legs are not your thing then perhaps this look is not for you.”

    Amanda Seyfried (Tim Whitby/Getty Images)

    Beyonce (Lester Cohen/WireImage)

If you’re still determined to try the short suit trend, the two offered some advice: “You can go with short shorts or a looser, longer scalloped hemmed short — both can work,” they noted. “Paired with super high heels or wedges (you always want some additional height!), shorts can make your legs look miles and miles long.”

Top 10 Bag Trends For Spring/ Summer 2012

Bags are as important as clothing, shoes or any other items of the wardrobe. They reflect your style, show the world who you are and make you look unique. So, it’s essential to be able to choose the piece that is close to you. And it is as important to stay in trend. So, we offer you to get acquainted with our list of TOP 10 Bag Trends for Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion season.

You already know everything about Spring/ Summer 2012 Fashion Trends as well as Color Trends and Shoe Trends. But nothing has been still said about accessories. Today we’ll clear it out. And we’ll start from Bag Trends for Spring/ Summer 2012.

Bag Trend #1: Knitted bags. Just as shoes come knitted in Spring/ Summer 2012 season, so do bags. Knitting looks unusual and stylish but you should be sure you have the right clothing to pair it with.

Bag Trend #2: Large clutches. While clutches are usually small and fancy those designers offer us to carry during Spring/ Summer 2012 are large enough to hold all necessary stuff a woman needs daily. Such clutches come both in neutral colors to be good for office wear and in brighter hues for less formal outfits.

Bag Trend #3: Printed bags. We are normally rather practical and choose bags which are more or less versatile. But designers advise us to be bolder during Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion season and invest into bags which are not ordinary, those which feature interesting patterns.

Bag Trend #4: Foldover bags. Foldover bags have been popular for a couple of seasons already and they will stay in fashion for the entire Spring/ Summer 2012 season. Foldover bags come in a great variety of sizes, colors and prints.

Bag Trend #5: Small shoulder bags. Shoulder bags have always been in vogue. But in Spring/ Summer 2012 only small shoulder bags will be trendy. And despite they are called ‘shoulder’ bags they can as well be carried in hands.

Bag Trend #6: Satchel bags. Satchel bags are very comfortable. They don’t look big but can hold plenty of things. So, they are best for those of us who like to have everything for every occasion just in the bag.

Bag Trend #7: Wristlets. Wristlets, which are perfect for women who often lose things, will be very trendy during Spring/ Summer 2012. They come in a variety of designs and tones.

Bag Trend #8: Totes and weekend bags. Huge bags will not be very popular during Spring/ Summer 2012 fashion season but average-sized totes and weekend bags will. Opt for vibrant hues to stand out of the crowd or neutrals if you want a bag you could accessorize your every look with.
